When someone is in a band, the music is a much more collaborative product, creatively speaking: four or five people are implementing their ideas in conjunction with each other. When going "solo", yes the extra instrumentation is needed, but the solo artist is typically in 100% complete control of the musical direction of the songs.

Deathcab is alive and well, but he is just too prolific to keep up with their recording. This song is so thrilling! Benjamin, your writing is exquisite, your a poet at heart! Emotional IQ abounds in all his lyrics!
