Gibbard, Benjamin - Bigger Than Love Lyrics

It's bigger than love
Brighter than all the stars combined
It's dwarfing the sun
Burning within my heart and mind

I live with my memories, the bustling fervor of New York
Where on 59th street we quarreled and broke the bathroom door
'Cause you were just drinking 'til you could hardly see
Oh how much I loved you but I couldn't bring myself to leave

It's bigger than love
Brighter than all the stars combined
It's dwarfing the sun
Burning within my heart and mind

Our summers in Paris, the Seine overflowing with champagne
And I knew you stepped out but you knew that I had done the same
And we had a child there but we couldn't raise her on our own
So our house got crowded and I'd never felt so all alone

It's bigger than love
Brighter than all the stars combined
It's dwarfing the sun
Burning within my heart and mind

It's bigger than love
Brighter than all the stars combined
It's dwarfing the sun
Burning within my heart and mind

Stranded in Asheville failing to fix a broken head
You're in California doing the work of lesser men
Oh what of our daughter, oh what of the love that we once shared?
It's living inside us battered but not beyond repair

Our fate decreed
A singularity
A solemn tune
I play at night and dance around the room

It's bigger than love
Brighter than all the stars combined
It's dwarfing the sun
Burning within my heart and mind

It's bigger than love
Brighter than all the stars combined
It's dwarfing the sun
Burning within my heart and mind

Awesome song... I almost thought this was Chrissie Hynde singing with Ben... Turns out it's Aimee Mann... Which is also badass.

  8. B.... B....

Damn you Zooey Deschannel for breaking Ben's heart. But at the same time, thank you cause we got this song in return!

  9. c.... h....

death cab for cute anyone he is amazing

  10. K.... P....

I think "brighter than all the stars above" would be a better fit for the first part of the song:) just my opinion

    K.... P....

+Katherine Pajak , then it wouldn't rhyme with "burning within my heart and mind."

    K.... P....

You write better songs then..... i wouldn't change ben's writing 😅

  11. W.... K....

Aimee Mann's got me picturing Opal singing this to Steven when he asks her what fusion is like.

  12. C.... -....

    Brilliantly beautiful.

  13. J.... B....

Heaven in the form of music :)

  14. b.... ....

I feel like Aimee Mann is best doing her own stuff her own way because she has so much emotion in every phrase. That being said, this song is awesome

  15. b.... ....

    I LOVE AIMEE MANN!

  16. I.... M....

This song is amazing and inspirational

  17. I.... M....

    I love this song

  18. n.... ....

    The End brought me here.

  19. r.... ....

WHY HAVEN'T THERE BEEN A LYRICS VIDEO YET????

  20. M.... ....

When someone is in a band, the music is a much more collaborative product, creatively speaking: four or five people are implementing their ideas in conjunction with each other. When going "solo", yes the extra instrumentation is needed, but the solo artist is typically in 100% complete control of the musical direction of the songs.

  21. N.... K....

    This guy just oozes talent

  22. l.... ....

The name of the song is so douchy, Brian griffin coulda come up with it

  23. O.... D....

haha shhh shhh it's ok. just breathe.

  24. E.... G....

I swear this song never seems long enough! :)

  25. c.... ....

So exactly why should we believe you, homes?

    :)

  26. T.... G....

Not his first btw... check out Home with Andrew Kenny too.

  27. P.... S....

its a collection of his songs that never made it onto an album

  28. M.... ....

That's because the song was written a few years back, the whole album is basically songs he'd written for past albums.

  29. J.... W....

But this sounds exactly like Death Cab, why didn't he just play these songs with them..

  30. D.... N....

    That's some mellow shit

  31. l.... 4....

    Colbert bump!!

  32. R.... F....

    Aww I love this sound

  33. T.... ....

Colbert is the best thing to happen to you guys since.... making an awesome record!! Downloaded this on iTunes already. Y'all got my buck. Thumbs up!

  34. M.... ....

    HAHA!

I dare you to watch this without feeling the music and doing something like tapping your feet or singing along!

    I DARE YOU!

  35. l.... A....

Saw on Colbert... love the mixture of both male/ female vocals. Now one of my favs.

  36. s.... ....

Saw this great tune on Colbert...Great to see Aimee Mann ! I am in Canada and can't see the video. I recommend US people to look it up on the Colbert Report site ..It was great! Hope to see you live in the Toronto area..you will be well received !

  37. S.... A....

Setn by Colbert here, too :)

  41. b.... b....

I really don't like Death Cab very much at all, but Ben Gibbard is alright by me:)

  42. h.... ....

omg this song is just my type. i love coldplay young the giant and the shins

  43. T.... ....

Thumbs up is Colbert brought you here but youve known Deathcab was the shit for years anyway

  44. h.... ....

    IS AIMEE ON THIS SONG.

  45. S.... ....

I know it's more likely that someone who isn't Ben wrote this comment, but I'm choosing to believe that Ben wrote it and just likes referring to himself in third person.

  46. r.... L....

Deathcab is alive and well, but he is just too prolific to keep up with their recording. This song is so thrilling! Benjamin, your writing is exquisite, your a poet at heart! Emotional IQ abounds in all his lyrics!

  47. p.... p....

    Colbert BUMP!

  48. P.... W....

    BUMP COLBERT

  49. L.... H....

    COLBERT BUMP!

    Love this song! Thank you!

  59. m.... ....

Just heard this on Colbert Report. Kinda got into Postal Service, never really was a fan of Death Cab, but this with Aimee Mann is great stuff.

  60. A.... B....

Argh, Ben, your voice just makes me go weak at the knees! My day starts with you (Of course also DCFC and Postal Service) :)

  61. J.... ....

So glad that I found this song!!

  62. S.... J....

No he's not taking a "break" from DCFC, they are still together and working on new music, he just wanted to put out some new solo stuff, he does it often..calm down folks

  63. A.... B....

    b e a utiful!!!!

  64. I.... ....

    It's a woman ;)

  65. d.... ....

This song features Aimee Mann. Not sure why that's not indicated. Love them both.

  66. P.... ....

Way to pull off talking in the third person there!

  67. P.... ....

Is that his falsetto? Damn, that's a different sound than I've ever heard from Ben and I love it.

  68. K.... P....

i saw him in chicago 1.5 weeks ago. i cried. waaaah. but he didn't sing this.

  69. D.... C....

This song gives me the chills. Even though I absolutely adore this song and find nothing wrong with it, I still wonder how it would have sounded if it was a Death cab song :]

  70. W.... ....

    wut an incredible tune

  71. S.... W....

Damn this is good! Really good.

  72. C.... ....

He is taking a break and working on his solo career, he is the writer and singer for death cab, when he takes a break so do they.

  73. I.... ....

Oh yeah i heard that on NPR, pretty awsome!

  74. N.... M....

He's still with Death Cab, he just decided to put out a solo album.

  75. J.... J....
