Gerry And The Pacemakers - Where Have You Been? Lyrics

'Til we kissed I never knew that thrills that could be tasted.
'Til we kissed I never knew the years that I had wasted.

But now I know I was waiting, for you to come by..
I was waiting, girl..won't you please tell me why,
This took so long to begin..darling, where have
You been all my life?

Oh, don't you know that til we touched I never knew the
Touch was worth revealing.
Til we touched I never knew my heart was truly beating.

But now I know I was waiting, for you to come by..
I was waiting, girl..won't you please tell me why,
This took so long to begin..darling, where have
You been all my life?

Oh, darling, where have you been, where you been, where
You been when I was feeling blue? (Feeling blue?)
Where have you been, where you been, where you been,
When I was needing you?
Oh, where you been..where you been?

Cause now I know I was waiting, for you to come by..

Oh, where you been, where you been?

  1. c.... e....

    Thanks ! Supeeer !

  2. m.... p....

Listen to the version by Ray Columbus & the invaders. A Kiwi band, they do it brilliantly.

  3. o.... ....

this is one great pre-Beatles group

  4. C.... C....

Chad Allen and the Expressions, later The Guess Who, version is very good too.

  5. D.... P....

God, were we ever that young and innocent? Great memories!!

  6. s.... ....

I still prefer the Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders version, maybe because its the first one I heard.

  7. s.... ....

this is for Christopher miller what ever song the Beatles recorded is gold to me !

  8. S.... A....

a great song that they are killing by singing too slow and dragging it out...the Beatles added extra cool chords and Johns exciting sexy voice is what this song lacks

    S.... A....

Shari Allison I cant find the beatles version anywhere.. :(

  9. W.... C....

    I love Mersey beat <3333

  10. R.... W....

    also recorded by The Searchers.

  11. a.... F....

poco mas suave pero aun así me gusta.

  12. G.... M....

I didn't know Gerry & the P did this song having grown up with the New Zealand version, Til We Kissed by Ray Columbus and the Invaders. Must say I prefer Ray's version,. Big, big hit in NZ. Far more emotional and believable.

  13. r.... ....

Gerry and his band always added to any song they recorded GREAT

  14. 1.... ....

Great Group, Great Song, Great Mersey Beat, Great 1960s

  15. P.... M....

arthur alexander version way superior  also gene vincent version

    P.... M....

+Peter Mcnamara Have you listened to the version of this tune by Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders? Personally I think it's one of the best.

    P.... M....

But, this is quite a good and also a very sincere version, however...!

    P.... M....

you're right the Gene Vincent version is absolutely the best

    P.... M....

Got to agree with you about Gene Vincent

  16. M.... U....

I agree completely with sirjohnlopez. John's voice suits this song perfectly with great feeling.

    M.... U....

True although I believe it's more John than the song, take for instance Please Mr. Postman. He owns that song too. He just had a knack for turning R&B into some seroius R&R :) I think of course.

  17. .... R....

The best version of this song was recorded by the unimitable Gene Vincent. His version makes this version sound like some schoolboys.

  18. l.... z....

    100% agreee with you.

  19. R.... C....

para mi el de los Beatles es mejor ..pero igual tambien me vacila esta banda

  20. S.... ....

Gerry and The Pacemakers were the first Merseybeat group to have a Number One in the UK. In fact, they had TWO at the top before the Beatles had their first Number One record.

  21. m.... ....

no no no no...you really need to correct this...this song was written by arthur alexander.

    m.... ....

momoec Arthur Alexander's version was the first recorded, but it wasn't written by him.

  22. E.... M....

es mi versión preferida de esta canción, esta y la versión de Los Beatles

  23. E.... M....

    gran cancion (:

  24. l.... b....

great version , mersey sound is the best sound on these tracks..

  25. l.... b....

    @Gretschzilla gene vincent,s gay version u mean..

  26. G.... ....

Gene Vincent's version kills all other versions of this song.

    G.... ....

    Gretschzilla I agree

    G.... ....

    Of fucking course my friend

    G.... ....

    So so true

  27. s.... ....

I still like the Beatles version better by a long shot !

  28. B.... ....

    Wooo!My music!!!Thank`s sterpumichai!!!

  29. j.... ....

Someone who knows how to do the solo?

  30. d.... ....

I have the original LP this song came from and it lists the composer as Gunter, not Mann & Weil? However, that could be a misprint?

  31. R.... C....

@habdon And maybe George Martin playing piano like he did on some songs

    R.... C....

Robin Campbell No, it was Les Chadwick who provided the piano based rock drive for the Pacemakers.

  32. R.... C....

@habdon Yeah espically with John Lennon doing lead vocals on it

  33. R.... C....

They came out at the same time as The Beatles. And Brian Epstein and George Martin managed them and produced them.So if wasn't for The Beatles these guys wouldn't be famous.

  34. R.... C....

@ChiefofBuddha Beatles are awesome,if it wasn't for the beatles these guys wouldn't be here

  35. T.... B....

Where have you been all my life" is a song written by Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann .
    NOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
    is a Arthur Alexander Song.

  36. a.... ....

@justinford10jf I see your point. About time we Brits had our own RR Hall of Fame ! Personally I wouldn't have DC5 in it but there you go.
No one will ask me though I guess. Why isn't Neil Sedaka in yours ?

  37. a.... ....

Why aren't Gerry and the Pacemakers in Rock and Roll Hall of fame. If the DC5 are in, then surely Gerry should be. Similarly, the Searchers should be there too !

  38. w.... ....

The Beatles version is so exciting though. This is a bit boring i'm afraid. Even with how bad the sound quality is on The Beatles version you can tell why they were so much better than all the other merseybeat bands

  39. H.... W....

yup my apologies. i meant the star club version too. arthur alexander's version is nice too, but since i heard this one first, its probably why i stick by it.

  40. H.... W....

hmm well the beatles version was recorded live at a studio in germany. i think it was supposed to be a cover? there have been many versions of the same, the beatles, gerry and the pacemakers, the searchers, arthur alexander but so far i like this one the most.

  41. G.... O....

The original version is by Arthur Alexander. It has recently been uploaded on YouTube. Cheers.

  42. C.... ....

I tought this was the only version :D It really makes me cry. ¬¬

  43. H.... W....

    Awesome!

  44. a.... ....

Yes, I posted a comment on the Ray Columbus song..very good isn't it. Also listen to I'M a Mod..thanks, Alan

  45. w.... ....

check out "till we kissed' by Ray Columbus and The Invaders

  46. a.... ....

I thought I knew a lot about early 60s music but this song has just been discovered by me...fantastic !! Playing many versions of it now. As a reward : I approached a young girl at a dance and I asked where she had been all my life. She looked me up and down and said, " I haven't been around for three quarters of it !!"

  47. A.... ....

This a great song; I first heard it on The Beatles Live at The Star Club album; this is quite different, obviously since it is a studio production. Here the melody is far more recognisable while The Beatles version has rockin' guitar riffs instead of the rather sedate piano. I do not think the Beatles ever recorded a studio version, if they had done it would have been great I am sure.
