George Jones - The U.S.A. Today Lyrics

There's homeless on the streets of every city
Big city crime in every little town
There's people making money off of Jesus
And taxes dragging everybody down.

There's politicians shredding up the truth
And farmers getting pulled up by their roots
And pushers telling little kids that highs the only way
Welcome to the USA today.

It's true we've got our problems Lord knows we make mistakes
And every time we solve one ten others take it's place
But you don't see those refugees heading the other way
Oh, welcome to the USA today.

But you know there're a thousand of happy homes for ever homeless
And opportunity still knocks on every door

Our younger generation's really shining
Much brighter than they've ever shone before
We've got the right to vote our leaders in
And we've got the right to vote 'em out again
And we're all free to speak our minds and not get locked away
Welcome to the USA today.

It's true we've got our problems Lord knows we make mistakes
And every time we solve one ten others take it's place
But you don't see those refugees heading the other way
Welcome to the USA today.

Oh, welcome to the USA today...

  1. L.... A....

This song speaks nothing but the absolute truth about our country.

2019 song is more relevant than it was in 1987. This is one of my favorite George Jones songs, and I'm judging from the 14 CDs I own

  3. s.... ....

Was this his true singing voice? Don’t think so but it’s the best voice in the history of western music. Heard him singing with glen Campbell on his show and sounded much less tony and breathy.

  4. T.... U....

I've only heard Hank Jr.'s cover, this gives me chills and always will where Hank's did not

  5. k.... b....

man I wish he was still around .

    God bless Mr. Jones

    What a timeless song !

Anyone really caree about these engineers and stuff? Rather know the musicians (which i do)

    C.... M....

Engineers do matter, they shape the sound quality. You do raise a good point though, musicians w/o question should be given their due credit
