Gaye, Marvin - I Want You 'Round Lyrics

Every day that passes by
I think about the new love you found
And my eyes cloud up and cry
'cause I want you 'round
I want you 'round

I spend my saddest moments
After the sun goes down
That's when my heart starts aching
'cause I want you 'round
I want you round

No matter where I travel
In the country or a town
My lips call out your name
'cause I want you 'round
I want you 'round baby
I want you 'round
I want you 'round

  32. f.... h....

This song is sheer brilliance. Indescribably excellent. The arrangement out of this world.

    f.... h....

+frankie hunter Exactly. So much of Motown was truly excellent and it's because of the arrangements, the production, and of course the voices. Wonderful.

  33. L.... D....

This is the first version ive heard. so im hooked to it

  34. S.... G....

This version is cool, but Mary wells with Smokey is the Original!

I always have to come back to this and reflect. It's too pretty and filled with memories. It makes me happy though to think of the simplicity of those days compared to now and how young people were inspired by songs like this. I met my husband much much later after this recording, but he played it for me and I realized his good taste in music and for some reason, that appealed to me. I know Mr. Gaye made a splash with Tammy but I loved him with Kim, truly.

  36. D.... M....

I'm not sure, but I think Mary and Smokey recorded this first, but it wasn't released at the time. Only years later when they put out the Mary Wells box set did it show up.

  37. D.... M....

I think I'm getting behind on some of the comments here, so I'm sorry I didn't answer this. Kim and Marvin's version is from an album, "Marvin Gaye / Kim Weston Take Two" You might be able to still find the CD release from a few years back, or download it at Amazon.

  38. D.... M....

It's amazing that so much talent combined in one little converted house in Detroit to make music that actually could stand toe-to-toe with the music that was part of the British Invasion. The music was also amazing in that it was danceable AND beautiful at the same time. Wow!

  39. b.... ....

These artists of today, no matter how big just don't have a clue. Back then, of course, we thought of melody and beat but lyrics were simple and yet so profoundly delivered and articulated so that we KNEW what we were hearing and loving. Thanks so much for you kind comment. Yes, the song brings back beautiful memories as well because I know we all leave this world and have to find happiness as it comes and comfort in the past too. Peace to you. :)

  40. n.... ....

There is. After I read your post, I found it. Great song. Just enter the title in the search box. Motown Master posted it.

  41. n.... ....

First off, my condolences. I hope that this song brings more beautiful memories of your love for your husband, than sad ones. I also want to know of any artists today, that can bring out the romance and love, that actually brings 2 people together, such as this song. If you know of any, please tell me.

  42. n.... ....

Although I was about 5 years old (when I'll keep holding on was released). I had older sisters who also contributed to my taste in Motown and other good music of that time. Anyhow, I agree. When listening to the early Motown recordings, Motown was actually ahead of its time, e. g. the early, but hit-making recordings by the Tempts, The Vandellas, etc.

  43. n.... ....

Who said that he was? Just curious.

  44. n.... ....

I just inquired on which version was released first? What was the name of the song on the A side? Weren't those B sides just as good as the A sides? LOL.

  45. n.... ....

I have Mary Wells' version. Where can I find this version.

  46. n.... ....

thanks for this version. which version was released first?

  47. b.... ....

I love the sound of Motown, particularly in this. It's larger than life and Marvin and Kim rise to it. Still my favorite.

  48. M.... T....

Sweet tune and memory. Like this one more than Ms. Wells rendition ( No disrespect
to her ) this jam makes it with me.

  49. b.... ....

this version is better than mary wells

  50. J.... ....

@DONTLOOKATMEH Just the opposite. Marvin Gaye was exquisitely beautiful, in body, mind, and soul. Not to mention extraordinarily talented.

  51. b.... ....

@tomovox I'm sending you a subscription. I visited your channel...the first comment was removed it's okay but I want to let you know that I appreciate anyone that can first mention Ella, Louis and Cole Porter! Too many people don't understand the simplicity of musical class and genius. And yes, Motown said they used all kinds of non-musical instruments (even hand clapping) to achieve some of the biggest sounds around especially in those days. This song is a perfect example!

  52. D.... M....

@boomerang905 Thanks for that compliment! I'm glad you hear those qualities too. I never stop being amazed at that big, sophisticated sound Motown got out of that basement studio in Detroit. Even on originals like this song, there was that sound that mixed r&b and touches of jazz standards or big band arrangements. What I love about the Kim and Marvin duets is that they give me that feeling of the Ella Fitzgerald and Louie Armstrong duets- more of the jazz feeling. I love this!

  53. b.... ....

@tomovox I'm almost a year late but this is really a cool comment. It's like you pick up my thoughts on this one here. Gotta hand it to Motown, when they did it, they did it and it does come off as almost a big band sound and their blend is perfect....that's who I really liked Mr. Gaye to Duo with, Kim Weston. : )

  54. b.... ....

This is one of the most beautiful duets out of Motown. Many people give it to Marvin and Tammy. I always loved him with Kim Weston. I fell in love with my husband on this. So beautiful, haunting and makes me feel sad but thrilled to. My husband passed on....

    b.... ....

I want you round means so much to me for my true love he just passed .

  55. D.... M....

Beauty, class, wit...it's all here in this song. I like the way the horn section punches in with those brief comments- sounds like a very elegant, big band sort of arrangement. Marvin and Kim have the voices that make you want to listen over and over to this song (although Mary and Smokey did a stunning performance on their version as well!)

  56. A.... L....

This doesn't even touch Mary's version' But still is a classic track and I like them both......

  57. D.... W....

Too bad there doesn't appear to be a posting of the A side to this song: What Good Am I Without You.
