Gaye, Marvin - Good Lovin' Ain't Easy To Come By Lyrics

[Both:] Good lovin' ain't easy
Good lovin' ain't easy
Good lovin' ain't easy to come by
[Him:] Oh, darlin', that's the kind you offer me
It's just the love to be found
[Her:] 'Cause we're workin' on a buildin' nobody can tear down
[Both:] Look what we've got, ho-ho-ho-honey

[Both:] Good lovin' ain't easy
Good lovin' ain't easy, darlin'
Good lovin' ain't easy to come by, oh no no
[Him:] I've tried the good life and I know
It's a playground where no one cares
[Her:] But at last you'll find out that don't compare
[Both:] To what we've got, ho-ho-ho-honey

[Both:] It takes more than just a song and dance
You've got to work and fight to give it a chance
[Him:] If the rain comes down on us
And there ain't no place to run
[Her:] We'll just cover ourselves with a blanket of love
And wait till the mornin' comes
[Him:] Oh baby, let's do it today
[Her:] Inflection
[Both:] Give us protection

[Both:] Good lovin' ain't easy to come by
[Him:] Some think it's a plaything
You can toss away when it's old
[Her:] But when love's valued in pieces
It's worth more than gold
[Both:] That's what we've got

[Fading sequence:]
[Her:] Good lovin' ain't easy to come by
over [Him:] Oh, oh, it ain't easy

So true especially in this day of time.

After all these years this song is true then ever.

  4. k.... m....

    Great voices

  5. f.... ....

Marvin & Tammi were magical together! This one qualifies as a lost treasure! It was a WABC Hot Prospect for two weeks in late Jan 69, but never charted.

  6. l.... 4....

But if the rain comes down on us and there ain't no place to run, we'll just cover ourselves with a blanket of love and wait til the morning comes. Oh, a blanket of tenderness, and affection, give us protection.

~ The new play on Broadway, BOYS IN THE BAND, prompted research & watching the original 1970 movie. This song was on the 1970 soundtrack, and I now have a new appreciation of this classic 1969 duet! R.I.P. Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell.
    Cheers, DAVEDJ ~

  9. L.... G....

    My favorite by them

  10. B.... ....

I like the 1:49 mark how there’re singing that harmony and the way the strings in background sounds beautiful.

Miss Tammi Terrell's vibrant sound and tone are unique. Despite the myth surrounding this vocal, ain't no way that this is (the great) Valerie Simpson, whose career I've followed since the beginning. I also know Valerie's gorgeous sound well -- and here, I hear Tammi!

    M.... P....

im sorry this is val just compare their earlier...the tonality is so different

    M.... P....

    It is tammi

    Allen Quinn Me, too.

  19. H.... a....

Seems like Marvin Gaye and James Brown had a new Top 40 entry every month during late 67-68 and now into 1969.

  20. M.... R....

BUT WHEN I GET IT,I'LL KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT.

  21. B.... I....

... and baby you give good lovin...

  22. L.... J....

Utter brilliance from the pen of Nick Ashford & Valerie Simpson.. working with Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, arguably the greatest Soul duet EVER. The rhythm and orchestral arrangement are 'off the chain'... powerful and transcendent. GOD... what a song!

  23. c.... e....

I love this song 1 of my favorite!!!

  28. j.... ....

@faeriecrone Your right; Bad spelling costs the intent of sentiments

  29. A.... ....

    @jasonfury1 Or an angel even.

  30. j.... ....

Tammi Terell voice of an angle

    j.... ....

tammi Terrell's voice like an angel not angle you spell it wrong

  31. s.... ....

    I LOVE MOTOWN!

  32. W.... H....

@toicannon All due respect and taking nothing from the great Tammi Montgomery Terrell. Now what I also want to say is that Valerie Simpson is singing us to bliss. To me Marvin here is at the top of hisof a tsunami game. He's riding on the waves of a tsunami. His perfect pitch and volume intensity is unspeakable. He's slammin, jammin, and killin. Listenin to him hear makes me understand why Smokey said Marvin was his choice as the best of the Motown guy vocalist.

  33. V.... ....

Yes Valarie Simpson said Tammi did her own vocals. Tammi was a trouper who did her best through her illness. An angel taken from us so young. She so much wanted to live and continue with her career but fate worked against her. Tammi would've been a singer that rivaled Diana had she lived for she stood out from Brenda Holloway and Kim Weston. Tammi had that extra something going on with her. She had a little more FIRE though I love Brenda and Kim.

    V.... ....

It's too bad that there always so much speculation as to who sang on what song at Motown.  Was it the Andantes or the Supremes?  Was it Marlene Barrow or Flo Ballard singing?  Was it the Marvellettes or the Andantes?  Was  it the Supremes or the Waters Sisters?  And it goes on and on.  People say to me that I should just enjoy the music.  But as a true music lover I want to know who is singing and playing on the record. Is that so wrong?  Don't tell me it's the Marvellettes when its really the Andantes.

  34. t.... ....

That's Tammi singing!!! I believe Valerie!!

    t.... ....

Don't believe Valerie.  After all she and Nick pretended to be Cindy Birdsong and Mary Wilson on the Supremes' release "Some Things You Never Get Used To" and the public was not informed of this upon its initial release.

  35. s.... ....

I'm pretty sure, also, that a lot of the songs on "You're All I Need" consisted of Marvin's vocals dubbed over some of the songs on Tammi's debut solo album, since she phrases things EXACTLY like she did on her album...
