But on this track Marvin has these dual storylines going on between the lead and BG vocals... man he was a beast. And NO THATS NOT JAMES JAMERSON ON THE BASS! I think that’s Wilton Fender but I may be wrong. It’s definitely a Jamerson bass line. After What’s going on basslines we’re written in the Jamerson style that Marvin loved so much. Jamison play the way that Marvin did background vocals. Always counter to the melody. 2 songs in one.

This album was magical to me back in 76. By the time this song went off I had goosebumps all over. I was the king of mentally isolating every track and would amaze my friends by sounding out what Marvin and the band was laying down. Down to the finger snaps. The horn and flute harp glissando on the vamp (repetitive loop that the song finishes with) used to overwhelm me. Especially when the weed was good lol
