Gary Puckett & The Union Gap - Kentucky Woman Lyrics

Kentucky woman
She shines with her own kind of light
She'd look at you once
And a day that's all wrong
Looks all right
And I love her
God knows, I love her
Kentucky woman
If she get to know you
She goin' to own you
Kentucky woman

Well, she ain't the kind
Makes heads turn at the drop of her name
But something inside
That she's got turn you on just the same
And she loves me
God knows, she loves me

Kentucky woman
If she get to know you
She goin' to own you
Kentucky woman

I don't want much
The good Lord's earth beneath my feet
A gentle touch
From that one girl, and life is
Sweet and good
Ain't no doubt
I'm talkin' about

Kentucky woman
If she get to know you
She goin' to own you
Kentucky woman

    Wow! Just brilliant.

I'm a huge Bee Gees fan and I found this.
    "To Love Somebody"

I had the pleasure of meeting Gary when he was playing at the Casino Aztar in Evansville,Ind. His songs were absolutely the same as when he first sang them. Even older, still sings like he always has. One of the most honest things he asked was that no one smoke. He explained that he was allergic to the smoke. The place was packed. However, not one person lit up a cigarette. He had the audience completely captivated with his music. having all of us join in and sing along. After the show, he signed autographs and genuinely spoke to the people like they were his best friends. A great singer and entertainer.

    Love Deep Purple's version

Very nice. But who here remembers Deep Purple's version of this Neil Diamond classic? According to the legend, after Purple's version became a hit, people at every rock concert hollered out for Kentucky Woman ... long before people started hollering for Freebird or Stairway to Heaven!

@ann lovell How many times has that exact thought passed through my mind about Gary's rendition of one of Neil Diamond's signature tunes.

Gary often took the hits of other artists and made them better, stronger.
    What a voice!

I listened really close to the words, and I think the song is very sweet!  I am the mother of a daughter that when she was 12, she looked to be 17!  I can understand how the girl would want to be with an older guy and not tell him just how old she really is!  But, some way, he finds out just how old the girl is, and he wants to know why she didn't tell him her age, so he tells her to go home to her mother, because she is just a baby, and he has to hurt her feelings so she will go and not ever come back!!!  I think it is very sweet of the guy to do this as soon as he found out how young she was, because he could still be with her and who would ever know, but him and her!!!  This song is "NOT" about all the bad things that have been said about it.  BUT, WHAT IT IS,  IS A BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY ABOUT A YOUNG GIRL WHO FELL IN LOVE WITH AN OLDER GUY THAT HAD NO IDEA OF HER AGE AND HE FELL IN LOVE WITH HER TOO, AND THEN HE HAD TO BREAK HER HEART SO SHE WOULD LEAVE HIM, NEVER TO RETURN!!!

    C.... O....

And he would not be a registered sex offender. It happens just like that....everyday. Great Song.

I'm a long-time Neil Diamond fan, but this past week, I have been trying to learn more about Gary Puckett and the Union Gap. I find it intriguing that Gary has done two of Neil's songs, this one and "I Am I Said". Since Neil has also done a fair amount of covers in his career, I wonder if they have any more songs in common. Of course, some people get "This Girl Is a Woman Now" and "Girl You'll Be a Woman Soon" mixed up!
