Gary Numan - You Are In My Vision Lyrics

Fade to screens of violence
Like a TV screen but silent
Where the victims are all paid by the hour
Staring at the ceiling
As she gyrates all around me
I am trying to forget she's done this all before

Far too many people
For a quiet night with myself
Oh I could be anyone tonight
Focus on a feeling
I've detected while I'm sleeping
Sing a chorus of "On Broadway" and deny it all

You are in my vision
I can't turn my face
You are in my vision
I can't move my eyes
You are in my vision
I can't move at all
You are in my vision

Delicate bodies
That decay beneath their clothing
Play cards in an empty house in Paris
The wreckage of a hero
Lies broken in a corner
And everyone pretends they like to live that way

You are in my vision
I can't turn my face
You are in my vision
I can't move my eyes
You are in my vision
I can't move at all
You are in my vision

When I was in college in the early 80s, I was delighted to find Gary Numan graffiti in the ground floor women's bathroom of the biology building. It was the line, "The wreckage of a hero lies broken in a corner, and everyone pretends they like to live that way." I was the only technopunk in the department--this was the midwest--so I think it was done by a visiting Grrrl...and all these decades later, I still thank her for that awesome bit of solidarity!

    Haha :)

But you still live in a world of mobile phones and tablets and Amazon deliveries. When AFE came out, flat screen TVs were advanced science fiction you dreamed about.

Thing is, I don't think we thought such things were just around the corner, especially here in Britain, a rich country whose population never feel well off. Hardly anyone had VCRs, I'm not even sure we'd got a colour TV then, and the idea of a home computer was unimaginable (didn't even consider the notion until the ZX81 arrived 2 years later, and nobody today can imagine how it felt to touch one the first time).

"The future" I think was something we didn't really expect to happen. Of course that's just my perception of my own feelings, a very long time ago.

Fair enough. Maybe it's an American thing. 😎

I was 17-18 in '79. I used to get high on pot, put this album on the turntable, turn off all the lights and lie down and enter into a new, futuristic reality....can still feel that eerie feeling, though these days it's somewhat distant. Wish there was a way to turn back the clock for a day or two!

That is so fucking awesome Anne-droid!

    A.... ....

I've been a fan since the very first time I heard "Cars" (I was aged 10). I'm 50 now, and still as much a fan as I was all those years ago. (My brother calls me "Ann-Droid")

  10. O.... ....

Super groove, for white people, hooky, progressive yet simple. GREAT record!

    O.... ....

DNA is technically just another organic polymer, you know. XD

    O.... ....

Anne-droid but I have some lame crosley knockoff so I'm saving up for something better

    O.... ....

*SIGH* And to think that everyone could just mine all of those old albums from the gigantic floating island of plastic garbage in the Pacific. I have a sneaking suspicion that there must be a whole shitload of The Bay City Rollers floating around in that mess.

    O.... ....

In fact, the first Gary Numan might even have ended up in there. I hope he's found enough synthesizer parts to keep him happy. If we listen carefully, we might even be able to pick his music up in our dental fillings.

    O.... ....

    Anne-droid don't worry I will

  11. C.... ....

    *Gary's best song!* ❤️

Metal!...and then this!  To each his own.

  12. W.... S....

Inspired by JG Ballard's Atrocity Exhibition/Crash, to some extent?
