Gary Numan - We Need It Lyrics
We are not
What you've been waiting for
We are not
The things you need
We are not
All we are
Here for is right
Room for one more
Here in this room
We play games
Room for one more
Here in this room
You can feel it all
We need it
To keep the shakes away
To help us breathe
We need it
For everything we feel
We need it
Like we need you
[repeat chorus]
We break down
Start up the smile I suppose
You learn quick
You learn nothing
One more girl
Just leaves us wanting more
This young love
Just leaves us cold
[repeat chorus]

Gary Numan We Need It Comments
Creatures....😏
Gary signed my original vinyl album a few years ago in California, and I have to be honest, it looks better on the wall than it sounds on my turntable.
Gary numan is the greatest song writer that has ever lived....
This still beats anything Nine Inch Numan has done. 1995 and on all suck!! Dead Heaven might be the only exception.
There were times when he lost the plot a bit. Even he admits this. The thing is, even at his dodgiest he is better than most of his contemporaries.
51:48 We Need It (Bonus Track)
kool , thank you
Magical album
nice and now can we please have the individual tracks separated out ? i was looking for "we need it"
Many of the tracks on Berserker and The Fury listening to them now remind me of the boy/girl sounds of the 50s (When It's Over/Jan and Dean) and the sound of the modern tune Death Can Meets Cutie "Soul Meets Body", The bell sounding notes of "God Only Knows" reminds me of @ from the "Planes Trains and Automobiles" soundtrack (one of my favorite movies from the 80's), no wonder I like the song. My favorite track on this album is "I still remember"
Love demos!
Just noticed the fade (song titles)
Very classy
Love it x infinity
"This video requires payment to watch." ?
it's all muted out can't hear shit
production was brilliant
love,love love
love this album
i love this album despite its inappropriate cover, also thought your fascination was a terrible choice for a single
You do know rge art work got mixed up.
I forgot why
But this isnt the originally intended art work. Though I've grown accustomed to it.
(Been loyal since 1979)
Excellent, we need it is such a tune.
Also a real fave.
God bless your channel
Classic GN! Good Job!!!@😲😲😲🤓🤠😎
To me, this is the point in Gary's career where things started really going downhill but remove the bad 80s prom look and the overpowering female backing vocals and replace Creatures and Tricks with some of the better B-sides (The Fear, for instance) and the album starts sounding and looking a whole lot better. The Pleasure Skin and God Only knows could have easily been singles but, as Gary has admitted himself, he often did not have a knack for properly choosing singles. That is still true today, think "Here in the Black" and "Ghost Nation". That said, man that is a bad look!
Hehe here i am once again, year 2 of my "blue image". People must have thought me crazy at the time, Numan wasn't very popular in South Africa at the time, so the look was "foreign" to most of my non-friends. mrsdevilurumi you're a saint
You could use the original album cassette artwork to denote the extended mixes rather than the regular cover ;)https://img.discogs.com/DQbAURIj_uPY7RKsVvZsI4hQEqs=/fit-in/600x937/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-1144314-1332878062.jpeg.jpg
A much overlooked album that has some great songs
How can I not like it! I think I am sold on all of Gary's music. I would love to know if he was a Bowie fan!
He actually said when he had heard that David Bowie had died,he said respect and rest in pease David Bowie and now I'm going to play is brilliant album and he stuck the cd into his car player .ten points to anyone who can name it.
Influenced actually...
You know it.
"Low" was a staple in my vinyl collection
He was ahead of his time. Gary's music still sounds great especially compared to today's shitty excuse for music...
The only real flaw I can find on this album (besides the female vocals wearing out their welcome) is the production value. The percussion and vocals--and to a lesser extent, the synthesizers--sound like they were recorded in Numan's basement within a single weekend. Heck, some of the bonus tracks sound better-produced than the album cuts. I'm really not sure what to pin this on, seeing as the albums before and after it ( _Berserker_ and _Strange Charm_ , respectively) are both far superior in this respect. =/
...
Seriously, I would kill to hear these songs with the female backing vocals REMOVED. >_<
According to Numan himself, he'd lost confidence in his voice, so he added session vocals to distract from his undoubtedly poor tone and range, although his characteristics were part of his, err, strange charm. Plenty of time was spent on the production with The Wave Team (Mike Smith, Ian Herron) and even Colin Thurston, who'd produced the first two Duran albums. Perhaps there were too many cooks. When I first heard it on release, I was surprised at the sameness of the arrangements, with that massive snare drum on every track. The cover art, of course, was shockingly poor.
All of us can look back at ourselves and wonder what we were thinking at the time. Numan is no different.
Really? O.O
Dang. He must have been in a dark place to lose confidence in the voice that ushered New Wave into the musical mainstream and scored six Top 20 albums in a row. Then again, most of the music press seems to have had it out for Gary since the beginning; I suppose he could point to his commercial success and say, "Fuck you!" for a while, but _Berserker's_ disappointing sales tossed that out the window. =/
I do agree that the arrangements on this album are somewhat similar, though the percussion has grown on me a bit (I still feel _Berserker_ was superior in that regard). The bonus tracks included here give us a glimpse at what might have been; "Anthem," "Puppets" and "The Fear" are each distinct and compelling while staying true to _The Fury's_ sound. And as much as I like "Call Out The Dogs," the "Tribal" demo version is superior musically. Image-wise, I wish Numan had gone with his look from the "Change Your Mind" TOTP performance (the _Berserker_ makeup, a white suit with a *black* bowtie, and a white fedora).
Still, for all its faults this album is hardly _Machine + Soul_, and there is good music to be found here. If Gary had replaced the weaker tracks with the B-sides it would have been a solid release.
I don't know if this is one of them, but I saw an interview where he said he started his own recording company and quickly ran out of money to do things the way he really wanted to. Probably resulted in not as well produced albums.
erad67 it's always about the cash available.
Been a fan since I was 8 after I discovered my mums copy of "The Pleasure Principle" I went on to buy all his 80s albums and I love them all. Very underated period.
That's great!!!
Makes me very very happy ti hear that.
Ditto
we need it
Thank you!!!!
Terrible, terrible album from the lost years.
Tokiofritz There is far more crap on DSR and Jagged.
Fans evolved and moved on. His evolving style expanded many peoples musical tastes. The Fury sounds dated now, but Splinter sounded dated on the day it was released. Hardly breaking any ground, and to anyone but fans, from Pure onwards, they all sound the same.
I really like that he has such a range of styles and atmospheres in his work throughout the decades. I don't like everything in every album, but I find most have something interesting to offer. I especially like his earliest and latest work.
To each his own I suppose. I'm not saying everything he did was great but he had and still fascinates me today.
This is Numan the way I discovered him, I backtracked from here to his Tubeway Army albums and I enjoyed everything to bits. Years later started listening to NiN and here I am full circle because of Savage.
Lost years? Not to me :)
I'm Mexican.., you sucks
Got lots of dog well two. Thanks for sharing.
THIS LIKE RULES AND STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ya know, thanks to Trent, and others, who've realized, gee, what a damn GENIUS Gary is, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And this album, damn!!!! Under-rated!!!!!!!!! PLAY THIS LOUD!!!!!!!
His concerts are like Nine Inch Nails on steroids!!!
All hail King Gary !!
Makes the cure and depeche mode look like novices
Puppets is my fav track from this album!! I love youtube so much because of people who post albums and concert footage for us of unique artists like GARY/TUBEWAY!! THANKS HEAPS mrsdevilurumi!!! YOU RULE!!!
P.S. I like Tribal too but not as much as Puppets!!
Excellent taste!
I discovered it when i bought the 12" of i still remember. It was the b side.
And the 12" proceeds were to go to the RSPCA -Royal Society For the protection of cruelty to animals.
Had a picture of a beautiful dog on the cover
nice video. can you make a lyric video for this disease?
This disease
I'm out of my class
This disease
I'm needle sick again
This disease
We must expect such things
This disease
She finds me the girls
Tick tock tick
All gone all gone all gone
Tick tock tick
Whispering goodbye
Tick tock tick
Who is talking?
Tick tock tick
I don't have the choice
Look at me
A puppet dancing on strings
Look at me
And this is easy?
Look at me
I got the screams
Look at me
Words failing
This disease

starting off with the blade runner sample. coolness.
Agreed. Very Cool!!!
weird mix of God only knows, not digging the extra stuff towards the end, otherwise awesome song of course. and a great LP.
These young boys... Just make me laugh...
God Only Knows is a Numan classic. He should do it live. Pimped up with massive guitars and keyboards.
@JamesPolymer what.
I was just deciding yesterday
That if i ever get a band together
We're doing Numans respect.
Seriously. Then i thought about aretha....
Hmmm
@JamesPolymer we gotta talk
@Patrick Bentley ...its powerful.
You talking about the white noise vers?
I retract this
Listening to we need it
(A real fav)
terrible
This picture, I'm so nervous.
@mrsdevilurumi
That picture of Numan is of a man who just spent 12 hours at the casino, and it was *not* a happy ending. He lost his girl, all of his money -- and that is the look on your face when that happens. The record seems to have the same vibe. The Fury is one of my favorites.
+Blue Look at me... I'm shakin...
But the artwork, the photo, the white suit, even the typeface: not good.
It's like, mosaic/abstract
@Blue do you know the story.
The album art work that was intended for this record is not this spread if you will.
(The vinyl lp was and is a beautiful thing. Heaven knows we've all spent way too much $ on that!.
Lol
But anyway.
Yes. True story.
Its bsically the wrong art work. I still havent seen the original intended work but id sure like to
In this song....I can picture him over in BANGKOK THAILAND doing his thing !
And he also used PPG WAVE too along with PROPHET 5!
Are these instruments still relevant?
Jr 78
Mini moog
Polly moog
Roland jp5
Or cr78
Lol
@david hefner yes
All of Thriller was done on the PROPHET 5
Some extensive creative use of the amazing CMI Fairlight.
And also the PROPHET 5, PPG WAVE, ENSONIQ MIRAGE as well !
I think it's mostly PPG Wave. The bell noises and the crunchy bass on the first track stand out.
Gary said he never wanted to own the Fairlight so I doubt that it's on this album at all
God Only Knows is one of his best!
Your damn right!
Deadly cool
The thing about his music:
Its (highly) memorable
'Puppets' rocks!
+Blue we're on a mission from god!
@MobiusBandwidth
We are *all* on a mission from God! Thank you for that, MobiusBandwidth.
Dacades later, i listen to puppets now and then. I prefer the original.
@Blue blues Bros
Friggin classic!
Thank you for this --- true Gary Numan darkness.
Kicks qwirky ass!
Incredible album and some fantastic sampled sounds from blade runner
It is cool yeah?
A fan since 1979 every album was a big event in my life. I was never disappointed
It's foward thinking.
Incredibly innovative
Excellent find! :D The Fury is by far one of my favourites!
Hehe mine also. The day Numan was born to me
Reliable piece of work.
Songs from it often waft in to my head all these years later. I love it
massacre
nice video.can you make a vid about birthday mascare?
+nadia manou Sure, but I already posted all of their album, if I'm not mistaken.
