Free - Walk In My Shadow Lyrics
Walk in my shadow
My throat is dry
My knees are weak
It's so damned hot
I can't even speak
Walk in my shadow
I can't take it anymore
When I get you in the shadows
I gonna show you what it's for
Yes I know baby
That's a shady kind of deal
I just want to find out
How you feel
I ain't gonna take it anymore
When I get you in the shadow
I'm gonna give you what's in store
Yes I know you say I'm stupid
It just wouldn't be cool
Well I can tell baby that
I ain't no fool
Walk in my shadow
I can't take it anymore
When I get you in the shadow
I'm gonna lay you on the floor
When I get you in the shadow
I'm gonna give you what's in store

One of the Best Songs Ever Mastered.
WOWWWWWWWW THANK YOUUUUUUUUU !!!!!!!!! Marie in France
Awesome stuff what a band
Yeeahh man
mplicit :
Awesome wow
Paul Kossoff—- SUPERB —- along with the rest of Free.
as of right now, this album is #14342 on amazon best sellers ranking for rock... an album recorded the same month as LZ1... no doubt in my mind Paul Kossoff completely blew Jimmy Page away. And it's really not close. One of the baddest mf'ers to ever pick up a guitar.
If you like Free check out Stackwaddy. Less original but heavier. Same era
Combined age of 10
Scary stuff. x
Such an amazing band. Koss is awesome.
Chunky hard blues rock !
Incrível!
😎🇬🇷🎸🎼✌
Always loved FREE since 1974 anyway...…….BADCO too.
Paul Kossoff...The best.
one of my best tracks
I don't mind the early version of
Paul Kossoff. Sadly he died at 26
years old.
Any song before" All Right Now".
Still have the album. They were just amazing. Winter gardens Bournemouth. And IOW.
Wow, that lead guitar, bass guitar, drumming and vocals, and their average age at the time?? About 17-18 that is astonishing, surely the most talented foursome ever assembled, FREE were & still the greatest band ever.
They were as good live as in the studio, just incredible !!!
RIP Koss & Andy.
As for most talented foursome, how about the Beatles? As much as I really love FREE, I have to admit that the Beatles were musically more diverse, working more on developing their music skills (not to be confused with instrumental skills, mind you) and had a greater influence on the development of popular music to where it came today. FREE started off as a bluesrock band with very soulful contributions, but never really got away from there. Cheers.
@Wouter Vuijk 'FORGET THE BEATLES, FORGET THE STONES... FREE WERE THE BEST BAND EVER' - AL COOPER
@Wouter Vuijk the only Beatle that could hold their instruments was George Harrison.
why take it anymore?
Still one of the greatest bands of my generation!! You guys can have all this pop stuff, I'll take Free any day!
Powerful and beautiful---Utterly amazing.
I love this song. Energetic, incredible. I love also Polish band Breakout 'Oni zaraz przyjdą tu' and 'Co się stało kwiatom'
man ... this is so good. And they were just teenagers. Wrong year in the description. It was 68.
Phew!! I need a ciggy after that.
Glad you like it bud!
So you tube is going to give me what's in store? What is that? A..........CHALLENGE? I hope so. I need one.
it is a CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY that this song is NEVER played on the radio...
Need to edit
Anyway they could have stolen more money from this incredibile band.Nuff said.
I play it and a lot more on my web radio
Mindset it's always the same old worn out 70's stuff.....I love it but most never knew this band...I knew Bad Co but I just met this band a few yrs ago
@Vicki Mingus Then I' guessing you're in your mid to late fifties. For those of us just a bit older remember Free as being the best. Bad Co were great, but Free were better.
the way PAUL RODGERS comes in after the KOSSOFF solo is just effing ripping. these guys were so young but man they had it totally together... the best band from the best era of rock... FREE.
That Was a Nice Time of Music,When Music Been Music And More of That!!!
So fucking brilliant. Don't even need the context even though sometimes I wish I was born 25 years earlier.
The 1st pic thght was blackmore 4 a sec
This is one of The Bolin Brother's Tommy, Johnnie & Pudge's Favorite Songs ever, Tommy Played it in "ENERGY" & "The Gassers" & Johnnie & Pudge perform it "Bolin's Alley"

All you can say is just one great group, just too cool
Tight; heavy-punching; a tone that would crush cars and old trucks. And it was 4 young guys who recorded this in 1968!!!!!!!!!!
What a magnificent riff. Almost 50 years old and it still sends chills up my spine. THANK YOU Free.
ross mcgarry
Love the way you wrote that, I couldn’t agree more. It’s insane how young they were in 1968 & producing music so magical!!
ross mcgarry
51 years ago. Long time ago. There was lots of groundbreaking music beginning.
Free, like a bird. ❤
I just watched Paul sing this with Joe Bonamassa playing. Paul is just as good today as back when he sung it here. Joes not bad either ;)
Covered by Spear of Destiny in 1985 worth a search...
I did not realise that. I will try to find it. Thanks.
Tons of Sobs , their BEST
runway27r free the bollock
Ya Paul
Thanks for the great tunes!~
believe this was actually recorded in 68 which makes it even more significant.
It was recorded in '68. I remember seeing them rehearsing it back then in the back room of The Crown pub in Twickenham!
@Andy Thomas I'm very, very jealous. I'm nearly 29 and they've been my favourite band for 14 years.
@Bernie Basset They played one of their first gigs in the back room of The Crown. Kirke was lodging at a friend of mine's place in Twickenham. The crown was heaving that night....there must have been 80 people there and they played like they were at the Fillmore! After the gig we were sat around and Andy Fraser went to get the money....he came back with £22. They were well pleased! In the first year or so I saw them more times than I care to remember! They always busted a gut!
AWESOME STUFF!
Glad you dig it...
Hi Tom ...one of the coolest bands to ever roam this Earth :)
+Paisley Sky indeed they were...
A joy indeed. I thank thee...
You are quite welcome!

Pete Manley - Walk In My Shadow (Free cover)
Vocal is terrible
Playing this tomorrow with no rehearsal.... playing with Jim Clare... no problem...
That riff... no words. Indescribable.
Sorry, Paul Rodgers...this was the first song he 'brought to the band'...saw him in concert a few years ago and he spoke before each tune...13th row center, he was incredible
@J.T. Bomar Paul Rodgers, sorry...I should have been more specific
+Tom Kane No that was my fault I implied Koss because the guy mentioned the riff. Free was in an elite class I only put bands like Pink Floyd, Zztop, Mountain, UFO, and Band of Gypsies in just firing on all cylinders and everything just is amazing about them. Rip Kossoff and Fraser.
@J.T. Bomar No worries!
JUST. HELL. YES.
You need to change the caption: Free recorded this in Oct. and/or Dec. 1968. It was released in early 1969.
Great song, especially for 1968.
It was actually recorded in December 1968. On November 6th I was at an afternoon rehearsal they did in the back room of The Crown pub in Twickenham they spent over an hour working on it. The other two numbers they worked on were Crossroads and The Hunter!
Written by Paul Rodgers this is the third track on side one of Free's debut album, Tons of Sobs (October 1968). Bass - Andy Fraser (age 16), guitar - Paul Kossoff (18), vocals - Paul Rodgers (18), drums - Simon Kirke (19).
Kids playing grown up music ... really, really well.
Best boy band ever!
@KW Music They were boys, but they all played musical instruments, and only one could sing, so not a boy band, right?
4 musical geniuses, that's what.
One damn sexy song with a very sexy singer!!! This track never ages and is one of Free's best. Just love Paul Rodgers' voice.
LILY R I second that with a resounding YES!!
Bob breakman
free are one of the best band of EVER
Paul Rodger's gritty soulful voice would have been right at home on Stax record label next to Sam.and Dave, Wilson Pickett.Add Paul Kossffs B.B. King like stinging guitar licks. They would made a hell of a R+B band.
Paul Rodgers continue to amaze me.His voice is maybe better after 40+ years. But his vocal range is incredible. When I read that Queen would tour with he as lead vocalist I thought no way he could pull that off.Damn if he didn't.He is #1 on my top ten list of Rock and R+B vocalist.
@?? Top ten maybe
Paul's voice still great
Love it...and it is true Jimmi Page is singing.....
Jimmy Page is singing this song, a cameo stand in to help the group to take off...truly check and see for yourselves.
J.P.
yea jimi page is singing and im on backing vocals ....crap on !
if jimi could sing like that he wouldnt have needed anyone ...
Jimmy page is singing this?! Utter crap!
It's 100% Paul Rodgers,😎
When I saw Paul Rodgers in concert this past January, he sang this and introduced it as' The first song I ever wrote for the band"...Such a cool concert!
sorry I meant to add at the time that this album was released in march 1969
I think you'll find the Band were even younger than that Andy was only 16 years of age
one of the best blues rock songs ever !!!
living in the past---great music--brings back memories of my student days,am 66 now,how time flies!thank u!
Thanks for sharing an amazing part of Rock history. These guys never got the spotlight the deserved. We have so much computer enhancements to music today that makes me believe we have lost a good portion of the Soul and Magic of music. These guys and others of that time just plugged in and played and what got was real. I found this by accident but I'm glad I did you made my night.
Awesome music, love it!!! Love my classic rock!
Brilliant.
this is the best kind of music
@edge9090 Thanks, I have some other 'Free' videos on my channel if you want to check 'em out
