Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Ferry Across The Mersey Lyrics

Life goes on day after day
Hearts torn in every way

So ferry 'cross the Mersey
'cause this land's the place I love
and here I'll stay

People they rush everywhere
Each with their own secret care

So ferry 'cross the Mersey
and always take me there
The place I love

People around every corner
They seem to smile and say
We don't care what your name is boy
We'll never turn you away

So I'll continue to say
Here I always will stay

So ferry 'cross the Mersey
'cause this land's the place I love
and here I'll stay
and here I'll stay
Here I'll stay

  6. J.... M....

Merseyside sure had some brilliant bands...

    J.... M....

    1. The Beatles, 2. Frankie Goes to Hollywood, 3. Echo and the Bunnymen, 4. Err, 5, can't think of any more lal . Lets see brilliant bands from Manchester; Bee Gees, Oasis, Buzzcocks, Elbow, Georgie Fame, Freddy and the Dreamers, Happy Mondays, The Hollies, James, Joy Division, Morrissey, New Order, The Smiths, Stone Roses, Take That,

    J.... M....

Malcolm Coghill half of them you listed were shit, bee gees arnt from Manchester btw you divvy. You can have as many bands as you want from Manchester but they will never be better than The Beatles or The Pacemakers. Stone roses were great though, others you mentioned were Pop bands.

"You're late again for signing on, if you're late again, we're putting you on daily signin'"

  8. T.... O....

yes i agree with mary. i first heard it in 1984 when my brother who was 16 then & i was 14 had their album. i also had the tape of gerry & the pacemakers . i liked both versions but loved this one better.

  9. W.... B....

this is a better version than the original more feeling to this

  10. O.... T....

this is real magic, wish I was there! coming from France back to Merseyside next spring

  11. M.... A....

Very nice cover of the Gerry and the Pacemakers song.

  12. J.... K....

What a wonderful song, great voice, tune and sounds, and what a nice declaration of love to the Mersey ... Nearly I had forgotten this beautiful track ... Thank you for posting it here!

  13. b.... ....

Why not stand under the butcher's apron for the whole song??

  14. B.... ....

They had some great cover tunes, this: Born to Run, (Do you know the way to) San Jose

  15. C.... F....

Sorry I just saw Gary and the peacemakers recorded this in 1965 and this was in 1983....That answers that!

    C.... F....

Too bad this video isn't from 1983. It's later, you can tell by landmarks that weren't there in the 80's... They show the Echo Arena being built and it opened in 2008. But it is nice to see the Daffodil...

  16. C.... F....

I thought this was the original band! The others copied it from them?

  17. k.... ....

    great cover

  18. P.... C....

Thanks for your comments. Wish I had as much spare time on my hands as I did then, I would post much more stuff :)

  19. J.... J....

    Anyways I like this track...

  20. p.... e....

  21. P.... C....

@MidlandNinja Yes, I still have it in the attic, I've loved this song since back then...

  22. M.... ....

Was on the B side to Relax on its release in Oct 1983

    M.... ....

yeah i bought the first press of the 12" single. played it many times. sadly my now 'ex' girlfriend got rid of all my records and other things one day after we split up. I'm not bitter though. ....................

  23. T.... R....

I just love this song and the video, feels veeery much like hoome : ))

  24. K.... ....

    @PeteCrunchy

True, but the weird thing is...Liverpool has it, but somehow FGTH gave it to everyone else. Just like the original.

    p.s. bring back the 80's!

  25. K.... B....

A nice version of a great tune.
Though I absolutely prefer what FGTH did with Born To Run. It was their version that really opened y eyes for Bruce Springsteen.
Holly Johnson is on of the absolute best singers ever.

  26. P.... C....

@listerone I disagree- I think it comes over as a very heartfelt tribute, being as that they're also Scousers.

  27. l.... ....

The original was an absolute classic....one of the best things to come from the British Invasion. These guys shouldn't have bothered trying to cover it....they failed miserably.

    l.... ....

    No, they didn't.

    l.... ....

don't agree,,but what does it matter now in ----Londonistan...sucks that England has been invaded and almost succumbed....you know what I mean

  28. x.... ....

This is the crappier "newer" version of this song they put on the greatest hits CD. The original is much better on the original welcome to the pleasuredome album. Too bad they messed it up with all that filler crap.
