This is one of my favorite Zappa albums. If you ask 10 Zappa fanatics to name their 10 favorite albums this one very seldom comes up. But I like it.

I owned this record on vinyl in 1996 and mostly listened to it alone when she was at school. This song here is about a sort of edible female robot programmed to think we went out once. I was unaware the lyrics were about an actual woman they ate until many years later when Frank removed his mask and revealed Joseph Stalin underneath Congressional sub-committees now sneak around asking about my Frank Zappa collection amid recurrent sex crimes. I tell them I could have played extended blues jams with Jeff Beck and instead I got stuck playing all this comedy music.

Saw the tour stop at the Uptown Theater in Chicago in 1980. Steve Vai was there. That show was beyond epic.

First part of the song is by the spring/summer 1980 band with David Logeman on drums and is a live performance. Starting with Frank's solo section the rest is also live but by the fall 1980 line-up with Vinnie Colaiuta on drums.

A mistake, dear Rattie. This song is not a "studio version", except some small parts.

The '88 band actually did do the song three times over the European leg of the tour. Needless to say the horn section definitely glorifies the already brilliant section you mention :D

I always wanted to hear this done by the incomparable '88 band. I couldn't care less whether they got along or not. I think it was Zappa's greatest ensemble on the non-legit side of his catalog. Hearing that synth stuff transcribed for that horn section would've been THE BOMB.
