Frank Zappa - Advance Romance Lyrics

No more credit
From the liquor store
Suit is all dirty, boy
Shoes is all wore
Tired and lonely, my
Heart is all sore
Advance romance
I can't stand it no more

Told me she loved me
I believed what she said
Took me for a sucker, boy
All corn-fed
Next thing I knew
She had a bolt on the door
Advance romance
I can't use it no more

She took George's watch
Like they always do
(It was a Timex, too!)
No more money, boy
I shoulda knew
The way she do me, boy
She might do you, too
Advance romance
People I am through!

Potato-head Bobby
was a friend of mine
Open three of his eyes
In the food stamp line
Open four of his eyes
In the food stamp line
Open five of his eyes
In the food stamp line
Open six of his yes
In the food stamp line
Said she might be a devil
But she sure was fine
Advance romance
He wanna try it one time

Later that night
He drop on by
Told her all he wanna do
Was step up and say "Hi"
Half an hour later
She had frenched his fry
Advance romance
Bobby, say good-bye

This and Muffin Man were my favorite songs off Bongo Fury. Could listen to that guitar and harmonica for ages.

    M.... ....

    And Beefheart's groovy voice.

  56. D.... S....

First solo at slide guitar is unbelievable...Denny Walley has a crazy taste!!!

    D.... S....

except Zappa wrote all the music. I'm sure some of the live solos are improved but it's all based on Zappa's theme

  57. u.... ....

Recently turned my 16 yr. old son onto Zappa & now Frank is sweeping thru his high school. I am so proud & happy that I have been able to expose a new generation to the genius of Frank. BTW alot of these kids are musicians in the various school bands. And this is still one of my favorite Zappa songs.

    u.... ....

@Dead Goon Times five. Are you dead?

    u.... ....

Of course mom (and dad) said pretty much the same thing about our music back then.  And of course they liked some of the newer stuff. And of course, I LOVE that old Glenn Miller and the rest of it.  One finds great music in  every era.  The trick is each generation goes thru the same fight to pick out the great from the crappy in their own era.  Its then their duty to pass it on to the new generation and the older ones too.
I even caught my dad with the headphones on listening to Dark Side of the Moon  once or twice. And Yes.  And Emerson Lake and Palmer.  And even Zappa!

    u.... ....

Martin G knowing is 50% victory!

    u.... ....

    Right On!

    u.... ....

He did talk a lot about god, in songs and interviews... He thought religion was one of the main issues in human history.
It would be great to use this @Martin G text as a Central Scrutinizer theme!!!

  58. M.... V....

Guitar got broken by mary with the leaves and damaged softly......

  59. M.... V....

    Moon loves me ??? ääähhhääähhhääähhhäääähääääh.....

  60. J.... C....

    Frank's killer guitar solo

  61. D.... L....

The opening line, "No more credit at the liquor store," is pure blues brilliance in a class with "Woke up this morning."

    D.... L....

What's so brilliant with "when I woke up this morning"?

    D.... L....

    "my credit didnt go through'

    D.... L....

exentr its just a classic. Woke up this morning, look around for my shoes. Lord know i got them mean ol’ walkin’ blues. Its talking about how every waking minute is suffering.

    D.... L....

Tom Grose got “woke up this morning, got myself a beer!” Jim Morrison

  62. c.... j....

    Maybe it was 1973...sometime around then ,north London . . .we had a Garrard deck , Bang n Olufson amp and Wharfedale speakers . . . . . we'd put the speakers on the floor 10 foot apart , facing each other . . . . and lie on our backs in between looking at the ceiling . . . . . . . . with this on LOUD . . . . . . . kind of set me up for life . . . . . :) .
