Frank Zappa - Advance Romance Lyrics
No more credit
From the liquor store
Suit is all dirty, boy
Shoes is all wore
Tired and lonely, my
Advance romance
I can't stand it no more
Told me she loved me
I believed what she said
Took me for a sucker, boy
All corn-fed
Next thing I knew
She had a bolt on the door
Advance romance
She took George's watch
Like they always do
(It was a Timex, too!)
No more money, boy
I shoulda knew
The way she do me, boy
She might do you, too
Advance romance
People I am through!
Potato-head Bobby
was a friend of mine
Open three of his eyes
In the food stamp line
Open four of his eyes
In the food stamp line
Open five of his eyes
In the food stamp line
Open six of his yes
In the food stamp line
Said she might be a devil
But she sure was fine
Advance romance
He wanna try it one time
Later that night
He drop on by
Told her all he wanna do
Was step up and say "Hi"
Half an hour later
She had frenched his fry
Advance romance
Bobby, say good-bye

JANE...JAAAAANE!!! OVER HERE!!! Hey, what's up? Ain't this song great? I'll talk to you later, it's too loud-- I can't here ya! Alright, be careful getting home!
The opening line.....jodidamente bueno.
One of the most fucking guitar solos I've ever heard
FZ rules
What exactly is happening from 6:51-7:09??
Something wonderful.
Tom Fowler on bass: tasteful space, precision, ears...if only more bassists had the nerve to not play every subdivision of every bar the world would be a better place
Blame jaco
Yea I so agree about skipping a few beats for interesting rhythm!
Super!!! Beauty!!!! Love!!!
C'est cru, j'adore. J'avais acheter le vinyle dans ma jeunesse
gARBAGE
Some pretty crunchy bass too y'all
Listen to what she did to Denny Walley at 2:39.
Chicken was never like this
I miss Frank Zappa..
So glad I was alive during FZ's time....
This is one of the best albums and best music of all time. - Zappa and Captain Beefheart - The best of the best !!!
loved it when they "rocked out" and they really could !! dEnny Wally Terry bozio Napolitano Murphy Brock advance romance boy**%%::?!;)
potato head bobby was a friend of mine" golden lyric
Fabulous.. timeless :-)
Where's 'Man with the Woman Head'?
Outstanding guitar and drums. Hard to believe the drummer went on to found Missing Persons. Very different kind of music.
Love The Captain's harp playing on this - inspired me to learn to play blues harmonica. Brilliant song even without the harp. Pure class
its alright
oh no.. no mo' credit.
What the hell...the thing died when"they took George's watch like they always do..."bummer
The Way she do me booooyyyyy she might do u tooooooooo! Insane Vocals from Napoleon, The Captain and Frank!!!!!
Denny Walley plays some nasty slide guitar on this one. I..I...I....just gotta say Potato Head Bobby was a friend of mine, opened 3 of his eyes in the food stamp line, opened 4 of his eyes in the food stamp line, opened 5 of his eyes in the food stamp line, opened 6 of his eyes in the food stamp line....(half an hour later she had frenched his frie).

Potato head Bobbie was a friend of mine. Over 3 of his eyes in the food stamp line.

1/2 an hour later she had "frenched his fry"
she stole geoge's watch, like they always do!
Was it a Timex?
@A Lynn
It was a Timex too, Wahoo! Wahoo!
Oh yeay oh yeay
Sickest harmonica playing on this and I usually loathe harmonica!
i cant stop laughing
Yall wanna buy a watch? It's a Timex.
This and Muffin Man were my favorite songs off Bongo Fury. Could listen to that guitar and harmonica for ages.
And Beefheart's groovy voice.
First solo at slide guitar is unbelievable...Denny Walley has a crazy taste!!!
except Zappa wrote all the music. I'm sure some of the live solos are improved but it's all based on Zappa's theme
Recently turned my 16 yr. old son onto Zappa & now Frank is sweeping thru his high school. I am so proud & happy that I have been able to expose a new generation to the genius of Frank. BTW alot of these kids are musicians in the various school bands. And this is still one of my favorite Zappa songs.
@Dead Goon Times five. Are you dead?
Of course mom (and dad) said pretty much the same thing about our music back then. And of course they liked some of the newer stuff. And of course, I LOVE that old Glenn Miller and the rest of it. One finds great music in every era. The trick is each generation goes thru the same fight to pick out the great from the crappy in their own era. Its then their duty to pass it on to the new generation and the older ones too.
I even caught my dad with the headphones on listening to Dark Side of the Moon once or twice. And Yes. And Emerson Lake and Palmer. And even Zappa!
Martin G knowing is 50% victory!
Right On!
He did talk a lot about god, in songs and interviews... He thought religion was one of the main issues in human history.
It would be great to use this @Martin G text as a Central Scrutinizer theme!!!
Guitar got broken by mary with the leaves and damaged softly......
Moon loves me ??? ääähhhääähhhääähhhäääähääääh.....
Frank's killer guitar solo
The opening line, "No more credit at the liquor store," is pure blues brilliance in a class with "Woke up this morning."
What's so brilliant with "when I woke up this morning"?
"my credit didnt go through'
exentr its just a classic. Woke up this morning, look around for my shoes. Lord know i got them mean ol’ walkin’ blues. Its talking about how every waking minute is suffering.
Tom Grose got “woke up this morning, got myself a beer!” Jim Morrison
Seen him at the old Leroy theater crumbling plaster peeling wallpaper broken lights after the first song Zappa says I've played in some shitty places but this is the shittiest
Dont let em do it denny !!!!!!!
IMOP the best of Zappa Live Compilations!!!!
I .... I ...... I CAINT TAKE IT NO MOE!
This is just awesome...
cornfed,indeed
"Told you bout the anchovies, George Duke!"

I saw this live in boston in paul's mall, from about 10 feet away!! Frank and the captain, did this song!! ROCKED the PLACE!!!!! saw frank in waterbury connecticut from front row balcony- choreographed show with all the greats from his band. god i'm old
@solarfolks peaches I was front row, center stage for this show at the Trenton War Memorial. Awesome.
It was The Music Hall. You are old!
Maybe it was 1973...sometime around then ,north London . . .we had a Garrard deck , Bang n Olufson amp and Wharfedale speakers . . . . . we'd put the speakers on the floor 10 foot apart , facing each other . . . . and lie on our backs in between looking at the ceiling . . . . . . . . with this on LOUD . . . . . . . kind of set me up for life . . . . . :) .
@Paul Fraser YES !!! We did the exact same thing !
Only it was mid-eighties…southern Ontario….what a great time.
Doesn't get any better than a Zappa guitar solo at massive decibels !
I ran it through a Harmon Kardon system. Digital is no match !
Cheer's from Canada...
@MWL4466
. . . . . .you got it MW !! . . . . on a planet ravaged with many sorrows we have been surely blessed . . . . . :) .
im only 27 but this is what i grew up with on my dads old sansui g9000 with 4 sansui speakers, like the 1200 series, dont recall those as much as the receiver stuck in my brain forever staring at the 2 huge knobs, cranking this up shaking every dish in the house. Mom and pop never complained because it was me jamming out their music!! this is my shitttttt!!!!!!!
@Hammerjockey Radios LOL same here in Texas :)
