Frank Turner - The Outdoor Type Lyrics
I always had a roof above me, I always paid the rent
And I've never set foot inside a tent
I couldn't build a fire to save my life
I lied about being the outdoor type
The closest that I came to that was one time in my car
Broke down for an hour in the suburbs at night
I lied about being the outdoor type
Too scared to let you know that you knew what you were looking for
I lied until I fit the bill, God bless the great indoors
I lied about being the outdoor type
Never owned a sleeping bag, let alone a mountain bike
No, I can't go away with you on a rock-climbing weekend
It's just as well I'm not invited, as I'm afraid of heights
I lied about being the outdoor type
Never learned to swim, can't grow a beard, or even fight
I lied about being the outdoor type.

Frank Turner The Outdoor Type Comments
I love this song . Thank you frank, I salute you sir !
Great song but not a lemon heads cover its by aussie band smudge
It's a Tom Morgan song more than it is a Smudge or Lemonheads song. He wrote it. And he collaborated with Evan Dando when he joined the Lemonheads for a stint.
kickass!
I laughed. Good song, this guys had a couple. How did I stumble on this again.... ?? Oh right.
Always loved this song. The fact that Frank Turner likes it so much makes me want to look up some of his other stuff now.
i agree. too intense
Misinfo flies. This is not a Lemonheads cover. The original was by an australian band: Smudge. That said, I think the Lemonheads version is the best. And for those who have never seen the Tao of Steve (which featured this and many other quite good tunes), please do at your earliest viewing convenience.
More specifically.. this is a TOM MORGAN song. He wrote it. He was a member of Smudge at the time. He was also a member of the Lemonheads shortly thereafter and collaborated very closely with Evan Dando. So this isn't simply a matter of "this is a SMUDGE not LEMONHEADS song"....
I checked out the studio version that you cited, and while I don't think it's quite as bad as this live performance (marginally better), I think Turner's voice still sounds equally flat and emotionless. He is no Evan Dando - period, point blank - and shouldn't even attempt to pose as such, at least not for the sake of the general YouTube public. ... Irate responses, yeah ...
If you like Evan's version, then this seems like blasphemy by comparison. This dude has a strong voice, but it's way too abrasive for this tune. Nevertheless, I respect people's right (?) to alternative artistic interpretations.
the key he's playing in is great
this is a crazily good cover, and kind of sums him up before recently... he could become famous, but he's happy wherever.
He's kinda too intense, the best part about the lemonheads is even though the tune's kinda upbeat and the lyrics are funny, Evan makes it sound so melancholy
Excellent work though, probably better than i can do
Great performer performing a great song.
You can tell he loves the song too! :)
he looks funny with a ponytale
Very Mountain Goatsy...
he ruined this very very much
Plan B's first record is on the shelf behind him. Both were reasonably niche when this was videoed but are doing pretty well for themselves now. "I can't go away with you on a rock climbing weekend, what if something's on TV that's never shown again" Too true. Hahaha.
he looks so better with his short hair
GOATIES 4 LIFE!!
its quite hard to cover this song with an english accent...you just have evan's voice in your head which is obviously gonna be better than your own
I like it :)
Does anyone have the chords for this version?
good tune but I dont like the accent on that song
@pr0ct3r We'll track him down and have a word with him about it lol.
@Raconteur haha we need to get on it!
@pr0ct3r Me too! Start a petition?
i want his hair to come back like that :(
way too clean
Not a good version. Lacks the passion that Evan puts into it.
@Sharpoon yeah, its on his album The First 3 Years
One thing I adore about Frank, is seeing him enjoy himself when he sings... <3 You can see that he really loves to sing, and he's so talented too. And when he's enjoying what he's singing, it makes it so much more enjoyable to listen to.
Frank is pretty much just a damn kick ass person, whether he wrote it or not is irrelevant, he still rules ;D
hey lemonheads i cant grow a beard, so fuck you lemon heads. but frank is god.
Got to give Frank his due, it's a tremendous tune.
hi frank- i really love this song and what youv'e done with it mate- i have just recorded this song and have put it on my youtube channel too
brilliant cover
Out.. doors... what the hell is that? :P
Good cover. :)
haha - FRANKly
Here here. Frank is awesome and if he cares about anyone who hates him, i'll eat my hat.
i love how much he enjoys singing this song
he's playing it wrong. evan is so much better.
wonderful . bugger now i have to check th erest of the vids:(
There goes my spare time
Oh and Frank is a total legend.
You can buy this on itunes as part of the xtra mile compilation release.
excelent version!
amazin, seen him 11 times
original this song is by SHARON STONED
This is not a lemonheads song, for your information the song was written by Tom Morgan and was first used as a track by his band Smudge in the early 90's Evan Dando didn't write this song...Anyway this has got to be the worst version of it i have heard in a long time, its not original and it lacks any form of subtlety or nuance, and the key made my ears bleed...Please frank if this is one of your favorite songs can you work on it a bit !
cockney? what?
im not saying it isnt good.... i'm simply saying it's ridiculas to compare it to dando's version....
I think you'll find he would agree with you, however, i feel he would be horribly wrong and modest.
This version is immense...period.
fucking amazing! brilliant frank!
uhm.... even Frank would slap you for saying that.. this is great but the original is tops. (obviously.)
Better than the original, easily. Frank Turner, we salute you!
frank does the lemonheads justice
