Frank Sinatra - On A Clear Day (You Can See Forever) Lyrics

On a clear day, rise and look around you, and you'll see who you are.
On a clear day, how it will astound you
That the glow of your feelings outshines every star.
You will follow every mountain, sea and shore,
You will see from far and near a world you've never seen before.
On a clear day, on a clear day, you can see forever, and ever, and ever more.

Frank Sinatra On A Clear Day (You Can See Forever) Comments

Peddlers ok but they don't put the nuances in this song like Sinatra. You are included in the song when Sinatra sings it. Many people have sung this song but no one puts you in the song like Frank does. He made the song new and unique. Thank you Frank.

WOW....GORGEOUS......!!!!!!!!!! LOVE HIM still after sixty years I can never get enough of this amazing artist.

Just makes my ears feel really, really good.

When I first heard this album, this was my least favorite song. I always skipped it in favor of the singles. But listening again, almost 2 years later, things have changed.

Of course Sinatra’s voice and Riddle’s arrangement are god-tier here, but the actual melody and lyrics are so true and visually compelling that this track takes the cake, for me. Love this artist

    Play @ 1.25 speed

  8. L.... B....

Mr Nelson Riddle was the man who fixed this album to become a million seller for frank Sinatra Gold

  9. J.... C....

The grown-ups are in the house. Thank you, Mr. S. Thank you, Mr. R. Thanks to the gentlemen in the band.

  10. T.... ....

I love the slower swingin' arrangement of this song!
    Thanks for posting.:)

  11. g.... ....

Sorry, Frank is Great here, but the music arrangement is very tired.
Check out "The Peddlers" Jazz version, it is really good.

    g.... ....

YES!!! *_Thank you,_* guitar surfer, for pointing me to the Peddlers version! It totally rocks, and is a thousand times better than this moribund, far-too-slow Sinatra version. The organ solo in the middle is to die for.

I just spent a good hour or more online looking for that version of this song, having just heard it in a Breaking Bad parody on a recent Simpsons episode ("Woo-hoo Dunnit").

I had almost given up hope of finding it when I ran across your comment. Thanks again, _gs2010_ -- you made my day!

    g.... ....

    Just play @ 1.25 speed

I have this exact LP but unfortunately I have worn this track out. Need to get another copy!

Amazing how Sinatra had control of his voice, and what a voice!
Incredible work by Nelson Riddle too. One of the best albums of Sinatra´s career.

    F.... F....

Yes. Incredible voice control. One of my favorite Sinatra songs!!

He oozes such class but at the time..I want to get naked and roll around in silk sheets.....with a dirty martini...whoo whoa

  19. D.... G....

Its not just his voice and persona, it's the very interpretation that brings us to it. No one better's his initial interpretation, key to his approach at creating the intimacy with us. He is so in tune with how we sway and beat, able to get into the song and into us. He's the greatest ever and it's perfectly demonstrated in the way he transforms the otherwise mediocre song here into something I love waking too. Thank goodness for Frank

    D.... G....

I always thought the mid -60's SINATRA W/ NELSON RIDDLE days were some of his best ever.

    D.... G....

Sinatra the Greatest. Greater than Michael Jackson and Elvis. Nothin' but class!!!

    D.... G....

"In tune with how we sway and beat" :) Great choice of words. I agree with you 100%.

Like Sinatra's interpretation better than Streisand's.

    For sure, havea great day!

  32. D.... ....

On a clear day was my gramma's favorite song. According to my mom, when grandpa died unexpected in 1968, the first movie gramma watched was the Barbara Streisand movie with this song in it. I prefer Sinatra's version just because I love his deep, yet soothing voice. When my gramma passed away, it was like a swift kick to the gut. My sister sang this song at gramma's memorial, and it had us all in tears. I come to your video to listen when I miss her. It feels like she is here with me again, if only for the three minutes and twenty seconds that the song plays. Thanks for sharing.

    D.... ....

Many thanks for this great comment. I'm happy that this song gives value to you and revives your memories.

Frank Sinatra was and still is the greatest crooner of all time. A God kiss for the likes of us that will live forever.

Truly one of a kind... nuff said

    m.... ....

    I agree! Thanks for commenting!

  37. J.... Y....

This famous song was composed by Burton Lane with lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner.
But, believe me, their best song and also one of the best popular songs ever written is Open Your Eyes in the 1951 movie Royal Wedding (sung by Jane Powell).
Yet, what a pity, that song is practically unknown to the general public. I just don't know why!

    J.... Y....

Thank you for your kind response.
    You're welcome.

    J.... Y....

P.S. Another great song I'd like to recommend highly is Sing My Heart
in the 1939 movie Love Affair sung by the beautiful Irene Dunne in a best Hollywood singing scene ever made. It was composed by the legendary Harold Arlene with a lyrics by Ted Koehler. Again, this most wonderful song is unknown to the general public !

    J.... Y....

Thanks a lot! Never heard of this either. There'S so much to explore in vintage music that you don't even need to listening new music.

    J.... Y....

    You're welcome.
Very well said in your second and last sentence! How true !!

    J.... Y....

I am glad you enjoy Jane Powell singing "Open Your Eyes".
I think Jane is a terribly bad singer and Open Your Eyes could not hold a candle next to On a Clear Day.
Jane's over the top vibrato makes me reach for the mute button.

  38. J.... ....

Has he made any other songs like this? Chill as fuck, not as much romance, just smooth music?

    J.... ....

First off, thanks for listening on my channel! Quite hard a question to answer because Frank's song archive is huge, but you may like some songs from the 1961 album "Come Swing with Me", e.g. That Old Black Magic. Also, make sure to check out the playlist "Sinatra–Basie: An Historic Musical First" which is availbale on my channel. Finally, MusicProf78 has some interesting uploads you may want to explore; his channel is linked on my main page.

Thanks for commenting! Sinatra has developed a unique style that made him everlasting.

How fortunate for us all that there was room enough for both. Make room for one more because Tony Bennett has an absolutely unbelievable version and I'm sure there are others. Enjoy or don't, but save the comparisons for bargain shoe shops, pizza joints and lovers. Music falls into one of two camps, good or bad. This is good, in fact, it's damn good.If you can't hear that, your words won't make ir our loss. Great song, great arrangement, best interpretive singer of the twentieth century. Something was amiss? Not from this chair.

done many years ago by anthony newly in a broadway play. i met him and he became close friends to my good friends. then in caesars i was playing black jack when a pal went to the mens room, came back soon after and said he met frank coming out as he went into the mens room. he said frank was friendly, shook his hand and talked for a minute or so. i gave up my gambling habit around that time.

The lyrics I really want to find are those of Cleo Laine. Her version has an additional verse and I can't find it anywhere. You'll see all her songs except this. Since I'm hearing others, for the first time, I think no one is  able to interpret her words from "you want a clear day........"

    J.... W....

Yes it's often hard to find the stuff you want on the internet

  48. C.... ....

Missing my brother, Michael, tonight. This was his man. I hope he's still getting to enjoy his music. RIP Michael.

  54. j.... ....

Strangers in the Night won a Grammy for album of the year over a Beatles album. Sinatra covered this standard and 2 Petula Clark songs(Call Me, Downtown). They all made the top 100 as the title track, Summer Wind, and All or Nothing at All did. This is the best album ever to win a Grammy for album of the year since Sinatra was the best ever, it wasn't even close. Unfortunately nowadays, music is now the same ol' crap. Mainly due to these shitty artists: Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Eminem, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Iggy Azalea, Rick Ross, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Drake, Meek Mill, Big Sean, Nicki Minaj, Wiz Khalifa, Kid Cudi, Jason Derulo, One Direction, and Maroon 5. Time to trade in those artists for the real pioneers of music: Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Louis Prima, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Bing Crosby, Elvis, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, and Frank Zappa.
