Frank Sinatra - If Lyrics

If they made me a king I'd be but a slave to you
If I had everything I'd still be a slave to you
If I ruled the night, stars and moon so bright
Still I'd turn for light to you

If the world to me bowed yet humbly I'd flee to you
If my friends were a crowd I'd turn in my need to you
If I ruled the earth what would life be worth
If I hadn't the right to you

If I ruled the night, stars and moon so bright
Still I'd turn for light to you

If the world to me bowed yet humbly I'd flee to you
If my friends were a crowd I'd turn in my need to you
If I ruled the earth what would life be worth
If I hadn't the right to you

Love Sinatra but he fractured some of the lyrics on this one. He's still the greatest.

  5. F.... A....

The voice was a little ragged by this point - but it just makes this gorgeous performance even more . poignant. A real heartbreaker of tune sung to perfection by FS - miss him

A few years back I was just checking out the stuff in my parent's attic and I saw this cd that had a bunch of songs sung by Frank Sinatra.
Why not? So I played it on my old radio in my room and I didn't like most of it until this one. Ever since I've heard it, I just completely went full on Frank Sinatra and he introduced me to a few other singers through this site. Couldn't imagine what would happen if I hadn't thought of keeping that old cd. I still have it to this day.

  7. G.... E....

    Quase à capela.

  8. D.... V....

This song is so gorgeous and Frank brings the lyrics alive..he was the greatest singer in our generation
    No other will come close..

  9. P.... C....

It sounds to me like he was struggling with the words and tempo, but it doesn't matter, he could sing the phone book and it would be beautiful

  10. R.... A....

Frank sings in a way that makes me think he forgot the lyrics and then remembered again.

  11. K.... W....

  20. M.... A....

    Sinatra sempre Sinatra eterno !

  21. D.... C....

Incredible breath control on the last note--especially considering that, at the time, the singer was in his 70's, maybe even in his 80's. But it IS Frank Sinatra, after all..

  22. R.... J....

Like a fine wine, the voice it rich and smooth. What a delight to hear this version of this song. Brilliant!

  23. m.... ....

No one does it like David Gates & Bread.

    m.... ....

He's an ASSHOLE! David Gates had many hits and FUCK that jagoff who thinks David's no good.

    m.... ....

@magicrick7425 I agree, I don't have anything against Frank Sinatra but I don't think his version surpasses the original, it's good but ot doesn't feel the same. I hate pretentious who brings those kind of arguments, he can suck a dick!?

    m.... ....

I agree. David Gates was awesome.

    m.... ....

    Sinatra's version SUCKS!

    m.... ....

It's all good just at that guys. Chill.

  27. F.... A....

What a lovely song and the ending by Frank is sublime. Well done Maestro.

  28. s.... ....

Sinatra makes these songs come alive. He sings as if it all is happening to him. No one, even at this late stage, could interpret a lyric like Frank.

  29. c.... ....

The Best of Bread. Excellent version Frank.

  30. j.... p....

Frank is forever, kind of like mickey mouse for ever!

  31. E.... C....

    Inigualable

  32. N.... ....

    simply wonderful

  33. d.... b....

    Beautiful

  34. R.... Z....

If a man could be two places at one time,
    I'd be with you.
Tomorrow and today, beside you all the way.
If the world should stop revolving spinning slowly down to die,
I'd spend the end with you.
And when the world was through,
Then one by one the stars would all go out,
Then you and I would simply fly away

  35. R.... Z....

If a picture paints a thousand words,
Then why can't I paint you?
The words will never show the you I've come to know.
If a face could launch a thousand ships,
Then where am I to go?
There's no one home but you,
You're all that's left me too.
And when my love for life is running dry,
You come and pour yourself on me.

  36. S.... B....

Perhaps musically the earlier recordings are better but I prefer 70's Sinatra...after his voice had become deeper from all the Daniel's and Camels. You are right. There will never be another.

  37. m.... ....

I love this version by Old Blue Eyes.

  38. J.... M....

Not in good voice anymore but undeniably still a very beautiful version.

  39. o.... ....

I saw Frank live in Oct. 1987, at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, NY. I remember him singing this and how incredibly moving and riveting it was. About 20,000 of us sat motionless, completely enthralled by what was happening on stage. Many were moved to tears, and the applause was explosive. It is what I remeber most about that concert. Thank you so much for posting this, which apparently took place during the same concert tour, about ten days after I saw him in NY.

  40. s.... ....

I don't care what his age is here..excellent performance!! Up until the end his interpretation of the lyric is matchless!!

  41. f.... ....

La sua voce matura, era così saggia, e piena delle esperienze di una vita, la sua espressione ai massimi livelli. Insomma, arte.

  42. R.... ....

Even with his voice so diminished by age and smoking one thing you could always count on in his concerts was the impeccable orchestration.

    R.... ....

But without his voice the orchestra was dead
