Frank Sinatra - I've Been To Town Lyrics

I've been to town, I've walked the highways and in the suburbs too.
I've done somethings I never thought I'd ever do.
Now as I stand here looking down at you, you ask me why it is I frown.
I guess it's 'cause I've been to town.
I've been to town beyond the boulevard and down the beach,
I've learned some things that only time can teach,
For instance, love is more than just a speech,
It's got to find a common ground,
I know 'cause I've been to town.
Don't tell me any more, I can't waste any more years,
I've seen my image in your eyes,
Dissolve in disappointed tears.
I've been to town, you ask me do I know the Milky Way,
I do, and furthermore I'd like to say
It isn't milky white, it's dingy gray,
Especially when your world breaks down,
I know because I've been to town.

Beautifully melancholy and wistful, perfect song for the artistry of Sinatra, no one in history had such a direct , emotional resonance in his voice that spoke ( and speaks) to anybody with a soul. So touching- Sinatra forever.

Me too!  I've been enjoying the best of the best for my whole life.  I met the very talented man and heard him in concert many time, just a remarkable talent!   He's gone now, but I'm still here, old now, but still loving his music.

I love this Sinatra 1969 album -- "A Man Alone" with lyrics by Rod McKuen (who died in 2015) -- it has some great, pensive songs, which are right down Sinatra's alley -- he does ballads better than anyone in the world, always did, probably no one will ever compare to that.  And Rod had a great way of expressing his feelings in his lyrics, quite sad sometimes, but memorable.

Loved it for 49 years - and have McKuen's poetry and some of his 'classical' music, which is beautiful. What a great combination!

I concur. Love this album. Wish he had done another album with McKuen.
