Frank Sinatra - For A While Lyrics

Lost in day to day, turn another way
With a laugh, a kind hello, some small talk with those I know
I forget that I'm not over you for a while
A wave an easy grin, a smile to put them in
With other lives to listen to and some work I've got to do
I forget that I'm not over you for a while
Days go by with no empty feeling until I remember you're gone
People say to me, you need company
When you have some time to spend, drop around and meet a friend
They forget that I'm not over you for a while
They forget that I'm not over you for a while...

Ugh!! So much pain... gorgeous song. This is a song to cry all night to if you need to. Heartbroken, loss of a sibling, friend, pet...anyone dear to your heart. This is that song to help you sob.

    FOR A WHILE:  "Lost in day to day, turn another way, with a laugh, a kind hello, some small talk with those I know, I forget that I'm not over you for a while;
    A wave an easy grin, a smile to put them in, with other lives to listen to and some work I've got to do, I forget that I'm not over you for a while;
    (Br:)  Days go by with no empty feeling until I remember you're gone;
People say to me, you need company, when you have some time to spend, drop around and meet a friend, they forget that I'm not over you for a while,
They forget that I'm not over you for a while..."  (People always seem to want to rush you into another "match" it seems, but you just need time to heal, and get over the ache of the recent loss, like this song so clearly states.  Most of us have loved and lost, as this poignant song tells, whether it's a break-up of an affair, or the loss of a pet, family member or friend, we ALL need a certain amount of time to heal.)

Sinatra is such a pimp and this is his Pimpopus.

Oh, grow up!  You are showing your ignorance!

Fine be negative. Once your balls drop come back and then you can pretend to know what you are talking about.

    Astonishing album 😀

  14. T.... J....

Goddamn if this isn't one of the most achingly gorgeous songs ever recorded. I am amazed by the whole Watertown album.

  15. C.... M....

Thanks for sharing this. I heard Nina's first and wanted to hear the original.

  16. p.... ....

Even though Frank didn't like this album I thought it was his best. Such soul and feeling.

    p.... ....

I wonder why he didn't like it. It's such an excellent album.

    p.... ....

polskamom Sinatra loved this LP and even planned an hour special around the story. He didn’t like the overdubbing used, he wanted to record WITH the orchestra but in 1970 with Sinatra supporting Nixon and Agnew, our generation wasn’t ready for ANY Sinatra LP. Sinatra had high hopes for it and discarded Jobim 2 to concentrate on it...

    p.... ....

If he didn't like it then why would he record it ??? ... probably because it wasn't a best seller (I liked it!) xx

    p.... ....

@Al Cataldo He didn't like the way his voice sounded at the time but he absolutely loved the songs.

  17. s.... ....

    Such an underrated classic....Great!!

  18. t.... ....

    simply astonishingly beautiful.
    everything about it.
the singing, the arrangement, all the orchestration, instruments.
    phenomenal!!!!
    very powerful.
there are many Sinatra songs that you hear many thousands of times.
this one, almost never. possibly actually never.
and its such a beautiful song.

    t.... ....

totally agree with all...would love to hear a little better mi and remaster. gorgeous song!

    t.... ....

    mix and remaster

  19. R.... J....

I love love Frank..timeless voice, timeless music.I still getting more aand more into him.I never heard this but its a really a nice piece.

  20. H.... ....

Nina's version is far better but it's nice that Frank's acknowledged her talent.

    H.... ....

@HughieDixon Nina's version was better for Nina.  Frank's version - the original -  is perfect for him.  And the arrangement....

    H.... ....

HughieDixon Fine that Nina acknowledged Sinatra’s LP....the underrated classic...

  21. A.... ....

I don't mean to be heretical, but, though familiar with the whole Sinatra canon, I assert that this could be one of his top, oh, five interpretations.

  22. k.... ....

Watertown is such an amazing beautiful Sinatra album, only he can turn a lyric into a movie clip, he was and will always be The Voice, the best!

  23. S.... L....

    GO GO GO GO Sinatra

  24. T.... ....

Sinatra's incredibly overlooked masterpiece - his ultimate concept album.

    T.... ....

@TheStockwell I agree. this song is the best on the album I think. would love to see it remastered a little. vocals are a little to mid-range

    T.... ....

@Bill Dunn Remastering is such a tricky business. With Sinatra's recordings, there have been scathing reviews of engineers making extreme "improvements" to the sound rather than just bringing out what's already there.

It doesn't help that Sinatra wasn't as fussy and obsessed with the sound quality of his Reprise work as he was during the Capitol years.

But, Golly, what a song. It has all the ingredients: great arrangement, a mood and a story, and a lyric twist Sinatra could work wonders with. It's a shame the album tanked on the charts and led Sinatra to retire - for a while - within the year. There were plans to do a television special in which the entire album would've been dramatised. It would've been an amazing thing.

    T.... ....

@TheStockwell I hear you, but to me it's down to the interpretation itself.
