Frank Sinatra - Elizabeth Lyrics

Dressed in dreams for me, you were what I wished to see, Elizabeth, Elizabeth
Love was very new, make believe was coming true, Elizabeth, Elizabeth
You were all much too much, out of reach and out of touch
When you came to me, I found it could never be, Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Elizabeth
So a dream has to end when it's real, not pretend, dressed in memories
You are what you used to be, Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Elizabeth

  4. I.... M....

Never knew of this song till today. I prefer to think of Elizabeth Hartman, whom we lost 32 years ago today.

(Oh, it's very real!  A bit ethereal and sad, but real for some. I love the flute in here, I play it so it stands out to me. It is said that Taylor hated her nickname, "Liz" and Richard Burton never called her by that, he always called her by Elizabeth (or a pet name), but never "Liz!" Outside of the Queen of England, many people think of the unbelievably beautiful Ms. Taylor when they hear the name 'Elizabeth!'

  10. M.... L....

Bob Gaudio said he didn't write this song about anyone in particular, he just liked the name. It is a beautiful name, and Elizabeth Taylor is one of the very few who used the whole name and didn't like all the nicknames that were usually derived from the name, such as Liza, Beth, Lizzy, Betsy, etc. and more!

  11. E.... C....

Have always dug this l.p( Jake Holmes( Dazed and Confused)co wrote all the songs on this, I really wished that Frank would have realized Lou Reeds dream and recorded his songs, " Street Hassle" / " Waiting For The Man",etc...Sure wish it happened!!

  12. S.... J....

  23. M.... M....

It is criminal how underrated this album is!

    M.... M....

I agree! I think I have just about all of Frank Sinatra's many albums, but this is a stand-out album for the unusual, a bit sad, and introspective songs it presents, and, of course, it was right up Sinatra's alley! He was the greatest balladeer of all time.

  24. T.... F....

produced by the 4 seasons bob gaudio.BEAUTIFUL!

  25. E.... G....

    😏😏

  26. E.... G....

My grandmother played this for me and said old blue eyes made it for me haha the good days.

    E.... G....

Indeed! I think this was written in about 1970, some "good days" in that decade for me also. Bob Gaudio wrote the lyrics and said that he didn't write it for anyone in particular, he just liked the name, well that's understandable, it IS a beautiful name!

  27. E.... N....

This song puts a smile on my face!

    E.... N....

I should think so! When I was a child, there was a very old song with my name in it, and people often mentioned it, not so much anymore. There was another more recent song that had my name also, that was even prettier, written by Rod McKuen for a movie that had the name in it's title and won an academy award for the actress who starred in it.
People like to hear their name, (if it is used in the right tone of voice!) -- there is nothing more personal!

  28. s.... ....

Great song; it also appears on the 2014 Rhino Records' "Audio With a G" album...

  29. E.... F....

How many times did my father sing this to me?   Thank you for this!

  30. H.... L....

That is why I never joined. Bunch of people reliving Fankie. Sinatra was always very hip to the music scene, anxious for the new ways of music that made sense to him. Though he disdained much of rock, he welcomed the newer pop songs that he can believe in.

  31. b.... d....

    io ho lp

  32. C.... S....

Think of how incredible it would have been. :(

  33. H.... L....

fabulous album with lots of expression. there was talk of making this a TV Special starring FS. Sadly never materialized.

  34. B.... D....

Amazing album. I bought it when it was first released. Used to attend a Sinatra Appreciation Society group and they all hated it. So different from his other work. I thought and still think it is a work of art.

    B.... D....

Barbara Derbyshire..I so agree with you..tugs at my heartstrings..imperfect...but..brilliant

  35. M.... ....

oh yea song just for me ;)

  36. M.... F....

  37. s.... ....

Should have sold...GREAT lp!!! I never tire of it!!

  38. B.... L....

Not a commercial success but a masterpiece.

  39. D.... V....

i must have played the whole album hundreds of times I've always wanted to write a novel based on this touching love story. But it was too sad, sometimes loving each other is still not enough to stay together.

  40. r.... ....

Thank you for posting this. It takes me back to a very special person and a very special time in my life.

  41. B.... D....

    @hjsteck Got mine on iTunes...

  42. l.... s....

From the land of the Bluenose...Mr. S at his best!

  43. G.... G....

One of his best Albums ever. The album was written by Bob Gaudio, one of the Fours Season. He wrote most of the songs for the group too. And he wrote all the songs for Frankie Valli as a solo artist. Bob Gaudio was from the same area of New Jersey as Sinatra. The only other album writted like the was "A Man Alone."

  44. l.... s....

From the land of the Bluenose....Watertown was a great and missed by most record. Have it and glad I do!

  45. h.... ....

Where can you buy a CD version of the Watertown Album?

  46. B.... L....

Watertown is a great album. I love Frank's" Concept" Albums.
