Frank Sinatra - Dry Your Eyes Lyrics

Dry your eyes, and take your song out, it's a newborn afternoon.
If you can't recall the singer, you can still recall the tune.
Dry your eyes and play it slowly, like you're marching off to war,
Sing it like you know he'd want it, like we sang it once before.
From the center of the circle to the midst of the waving crowd.
If it ever be forgotten, sing it long and sing it loud.
Come, dry your eyes.
And he taught us more about giving than we ever cared to know.
But we came to find the secret and we never let it go.
And it was more than being holy, though it was less than being free,
And if you can't recall the reason, can you hear the people sing,
Through the lightning and the thunder, to the dark side of the moon,
To that distant calling angel who descended much too soon.
And come, dry your eyes.

[musical interlude]

Come, dry your eyes.

  2. C.... V....

I like this song by Frank

  3. A.... C....

I love F S version more than Neil Diamond's but either way - can somebody tell me what this song is about?
I mean it is beautiful and poignant and all inspiring but I swear it is just a bunch of sentences that aren't all connected or am I missing something LOL

    A.... C....

    Martin Luther King

  4. M.... ....

I have never been a Sinatra fan, but I love this one.

  5. R.... ....

Beautiful song! He has never been my favorite singer but I do like the way he does this. Doesn't top Neil, but I guess I can see why people like Sinatra'...… that voice!

  6. M.... M....

Sinatra's voice is so powerful - and the lyrics never had a better friend.

  7. G.... E....

So powerful what a beautiful song love you Frank your daughter Nancy follows me on Twitter

  8. W.... C....

So that all here are clear, Neil Diamond and Robbie Robertson BOTH wrote the song for "Beautiful Noise", Neil's 1976 album of the same name. Probably Neil's best album which recalls his time as a Tin Pan Alley songwriter.

  9. J.... L....

Very good rendition of this song.
Sinatra is, and always will be the best.

  10. w.... g....

Better song from Bob Bullee, lease listen.

    Wonderfull!

  12. J.... M....

According to Jonathan Schwartz, Mr. S once told him at a dinner party that this song was about Jesus. It's a very powerful and poignant song.

    +Joseph Montemurro Simply not true.

  13. R.... M....

SInatra has covered quite a few Neil Diamond songs and sung a duet with Neil. Mutual respect and admiration society, obviously.

  14. A.... D....

Neil Diamond, ladies & gentlemen. One of the greatest songwriters of my lifetime, covered by the greatest singer of, ever. And. oh yeah, it's about Martin.

    A.... D....

    MLK and RFK

  15. J.... F....

Someone complained that Frank was "dragging" the song "out." No. The tempo of Neil Diamond's version is even slower. The melody of this song is just boring/simplistic, no matter who sings it.

    J.... F....

Neil Diamond wrote this song in the memory of Martin Luther King Jr.

    J.... F....

+J. F. Gecik You are right, Neil Diamond's version is slower at 3.50 secs compared to this one with Frank at 3.05. Some people just have no natural timing or tempo in their body ;-)

    J.... F....

The melody is like a marching tune in the army that's why it sounds so slow.

    J.... F....

@Apollo , you're right. It symbolizes MLK's poor people march on Washington

  16. r.... ....

Listen to this song with Neil diamond and the band in the last waltz, it's beautiful

Lee Towers comparing with Sinatra is the biggest joke in history.

    k.... ....

Never heard of Lee Towers, just had a search for him and I see what you mean! He is like a Dutch Englebert Humperdink but without the vocal ability.

    k.... ....

Sinatra is in my opinion the greatest performer in history,  i mean i respect all the others, even Lee Towers, but not even close to Sinatra.

  18. h.... ....

    Yes, of course

  19. A.... D....

Howie. Ever heard Neil sing this? This is HIS chart.

  20. h.... ....

Nice try Frank, but it sounds like you're dragging it out.

    howie9751 don’t be silly 😛

  21. A.... D....

The very last of the great hack Tin Pan Alley tunesmiths--Neil Diamond--penned this one. I had no idea--until 90 seconds ago--that the Chairman of the Board had covered it. Seventh Heaven.

  22. i.... d....

    thanks! <3

  23. j.... ....

I love these rare late 70s recordings.
