Frank Sinatra - A Fine Romance Lyrics

A fine romance, with no kisses
A fine romance, my friend this is
We should be like a couple of hot tomatoes
But you're as cold as yesterday's mashed potatoes
A fine romance, you won't nestle
A fine romance, you won't wrestle
I might as well play bridge
With my old maid aunt
I haven't got a chance
This is a fine romance

A fine romance, my good fellow
You take romance, I'll take jello
You're calmer than the seals
In the arctic ocean
At least they flap their fins
To express emotion
A fine romance with no quarrels
With no insults and all morals
I've never mussed the crease
In your blue serge pants
I never get the chance
This is a fine romance

  4. H.... ....

I love the way he uses restraint when the music escalates.  He really stays consistent with his tone and phrasing.  He knows what he has at his disposal and uses it with confidence and style.

If it wasn't written for Sinatra, and I don't think it was, it sure should've been. It's poifect for 'im. ('cept for the way he says tomahtahs an' potahtahs. Cuhmon Frank!)

Written for him? Nobody knew who the hell he was until 3 years later. It was written for the movie "Swing Time" in 1936. The Way You Look Tonight from the same film won the Academy Award that year. In those pre Sinatra years the introduction of a surprising number of these great tunes fell to Fred Astaire, as was the case hare, er, here, and, the lyric, I believe was rendered as intended or written.

@Steve Silverman Ginger Rogers introduced the song in swing time

John Murphy ...and that explain the lyrics...

From Swing Time the best and more romantic Fred and Ginger movie.
