The b sides of the first batch of singles from the first 2 records would of made a much better LP than the 3rd album.

I happen to like the 3rd album more than the 2nd. But these B-sides are awesome, that's the truth.

Always wanted to know what amp Dave used when making the record to get that gritty, cheap amp sound. You can hear it in the bridge of This is A Call, good grief, exhausted, and the intro to Wattershed.

Try a Peavey Bandit or Studio Pro (i just picked one up for £40) or other solid state combo. Mids all the way up bass all the way down, gain to taste :). Or if you got the gear, tube amp, clean channel but all way up into natural overdrive, mids up, bass down.

I think he used one of those mini marshall pocket amps (MS-2) in a gas can for the heavy tones

@unosturgis sounds shitty but huge! I love the first record sound in a weird way.

I bought the "This is a call" single, as soon as it was released, when I was about 14. It contained two of my fav Dave songs to this day, "Winnebago", and "Podunk". It's awesome how the Foos have progressed and materialized as the standing "Rock Band" of my generation, however, the old Dave thrashing stuff will always have a place in my heart as just fuck yeah great. Kudos to Dave and this great stuff, whatever the lyrics..
