Foo Fighters - Kids In America Lyrics

Looking out a dirty old window
Down below the cars in the city go rushing by
I sit here alone, and I wonder why
Friday night and everyone's moving
I can feel the heat, but it's soothing, heading down
I search for the beat in this dirty town

Downtown the young ones are going
Downtown the young ones are growing
We're the kids in America (Whoa)
We're the kids in America (Whoa)
Everybody live for the music-go-round

Bright lights, the music, gets faster
Look, boy, don't check on your watch, not another glance
I'm not leaving now, honey, not a chance
Hot-shot, give me no problems
Much later, baby, you'll be saying nevermind
You know life is cruel, life is

Downtown the young ones are going
Downtown the young ones are growing
We're the kids in America (Whoa)
We're the kids in America (Whoa)
Everybody listen for the music-go-round

La la la la-la la-a

Come closer, honey, that's better
Got to get a brand new experience, feeling right
Oh, don't try to stop, baby, hold me tight
Outside a new day is dawning
Outside suburbia's sprawling everywhere
I don't want to go, baby

New York to East California
There's a new wave coming, I warn ya
We're the kids in America (Whoa)
We're the kids in America (Whoa)
Everybody listen for the music-go-round

La la la la-la la-a

We're the kids, we're the kids
We're the kids in America...

Fuck that shit
Fuck that shit
Fuck it

    L.... ....

Oh my god. Haahaha i heard the song too during the fight scene . i knew jonas brothers sang this once . but i could tell it was dave singing

  15. A.... B....

Titans brought me here ♥ God this show cannot be better.

  16. B.... S....

#Titans (s1e2) Freaking cool series so far 👍👍

  17. A.... L....

Like si viniste por la serie titans 😎

    A.... L....

  18. M.... E....

Anyone else look up this song because of Titans?

  19. G.... ....

    TITANS!

  20. J.... G....

Yooo this was on Titans and it was the best damn scene ever.

    J.... G....

I just looked that up expecting it to be this version, but the version they used was still good 😂

    J.... G....

huh? they did use this version...

    J.... G....

@HitomiHaru Did they? Must have found the wrong video

  21. R.... S....

this was recorded at the same place they did Curmudgeon =)
I had a feeling about it because of the drum sound , so I checked and I was right ;)

    R.... S....

Not lots of people know about Nirvana's Curmudgeon.

  22. L.... ....

    Mxpx cover > this

  23. B.... B....

It's supposed to be funny, that's what they were going for.

  24. J.... Z....

Freaking brillant. Only the Foo, Pearl Jam and Mr Springsteen should be allowed to some covers.

    J.... Z....

Jean-François Zieba What are you talking about? People do covers all the time

  25. S.... ....

The way I see it Foo Fighter have nothing to prove. They have earned the right to do what they want. A one take garage band style cover has it's own indiscrete charm. Raw and full of energy i would definitely dance to this at a party.

    S.... ....

ScorpionRegent This is early stuff Dave recorded in the 90s before the first foos album

    S.... ....

If I'm not mistaken Dave recorded this about 20 years ago.

    S.... ....

    carol milam yup in 1991

  26. R.... S....

You can hear here the Grohl's drum fills he used in Nirvana songs =)

  27. m.... ....

    Dave sounds so drunk

  28. W.... S....

Im way more than sure that Dave covered this song with the Foo's just because he covered it live with Nirvana in São Paulo, Brazil in '93! This is probably a very drunk and nostalgic Dave were hearing, which if he was drunk, isnt bad at all in my own opinion! Imagine if Nirvana, on what could have been their next album would have stuck to their respective instruments, would have sounded like covering this and The Clash's Should I Stay or Should I Go?. They could have done that, then fill in the spaces with Ivy League, Talk to Me, You Know You're Right, Do Re Mi, Alone + Easy Target (with Kurts lyrics and vocals), Butterflies (Dave lyrics and vocals), February Stars (Dave lyrics and vocals), Winnebago (Kurt and Dave lyrics and vocals), Podunk (Kurt and Dave lyrics and vocals), and a finished version of Kurts song Rehash from the Montage of Heck soundtrack and possibly even Burn My Britches, Desire, or Burn the Rain! But dreams are just dreams...

    W.... S....

Nah, this was recorded by Dave alone, around the time Nirvana was working on Nevermind; way before the Brazil shows or Foo Fighters.

  29. T.... I....

To all you people saying this group did a better or that group did even better...there's this chick named Kim Wilde who did a pretty good version of it....and she is easy on the eyes too.

    T.... I....

yeah like the first version :)))))) she was very easy on the eyes :)))

  30. F.... C....

Backing vocals sounds drunk as hell. Who was that?

    F.... C....

    Drunk Dave.

  31. G.... M....

    "Fuck that shit."

  32. T.... D....

    Great cover

  33. A.... D....

Not that great. Both The Bloodhound Gang and The Donnas versions are better in my opinion

  34. s.... ....

    Muffs cover > this

    s.... ....

Rise Against did a cover? Give me, I can't find it.

    s.... ....

Riley Vandewater mb I was saying it would be cool if they did

    s.... ....

Ohhhhh, damn I got so hype man! Yeh that would be pretty rad

    s.... ....

You asked for it, buddy! I'll get to it asap.

    s.... ....

no ones done better than Muffs

  35. m.... ....

The Lawnmower Deth version of this song will always be the best, by far.

    m.... ....

meathand HELL YEAH! With Ghoul's a close second.

  36. L.... P....

Love, love, love this cover. Dave Grohl makes all things cooler.

  37. T.... ....

Good choice of cover and the Foo Fighters are obviously tremendously popular and talented musicians. However, this version of the Kim Wilde song removes everything that made the original such a classic - the experimental and, then, modern / futuristic synth sound and the atmosphere, which oozed 80s sexiness and conjured images of seedy, smoky New York city streets and night-life has been lost, only to be replaced with the generic and lame, conformist, baseball jacket wearing late 90s American college sterile "non-punk" punk rock sound. They missed the point, lost the edge and produced this lowest common denominator dung. At least try aiming for some "teen spirit" (if you can remember that) next time rather than this middle-aged, middle-classed, middle of the road tackiness. Next they'll probably be teaming up with a couple of members of Queen on stage! Ugh.
Sorry guys, MTV - get off the air. 2 / 10.

    T.... ....

Sure thing! It was probably a little silly of them to release it as a Foo Fighters release at all even though their first album was basically made in the same manner.

    T.... ....

    +Burley Snake.....yes.

    T.... ....

Important to note that this was recorded in 1991 and only released with the Songs From The Laundry Room EP in 2015. When this was recorded, Dave hadn't really fully created the identity for Foo Fighters and was still exploring his own sound. Would love to hear a modern cover from the Foo Fighters.

    T.... ....

Torquing, Wouldn't you rather hear him covering this with Probot? Because I, for one sure would.
*Evil grin* GO ON DAVE! PROBOT THIS SONG! PROBOT IT HARD!

    T.... ....

I think it's great stripped down power pop with a great band. Love the original, but this version kicks ass too!

  38. T.... ....
