Anyone else notice when his voice would break during the song? Once when he sings "if you ever will" in the first verse. Then the second verse in "still be mine". And in the third verse "lonely days had just begun". Such an incredibly beautiful and emotional song, with one of the best vocal performances ever. sometimes i have to revisit this song and just feel the memories of the person i never got over 30years ago.

One of my favorite songs by Dan,,I once dated a little raven haired beauty named Vivica in my mid /late 20's. Dan Fogelberg was our favorite Singer/Recording artist. At a point our relationship began to falter because of my drinking and I had to face the reality that she was better off without me.After I realized this and set her free,,she soon married a doctor and had 2 children ( 2 boys).He was abusive to her so she divorced him,she then married another man who was also abusive to her and she divorced him too . Now she and I have reconnected and after 30 years I'm wondering if now I should let her go once again only to be abused by yet another man. I stopped drinking years ago and wondering after 30 years if now is finally our time.

I would love to see a live performance of this song. One of the most beautiful songs ever written. I could listen to it a million times and never get tired of it. So heart wrenching.

I can't believe I didn't know this song until just recently.  The balm to that wound to my ego is, it feels like Dan is still alive and writing new music.  What a gift, he had and shared.  How people do not appreciate him in greater numbers astound me. At least he left us his music.

Actor Man. I understand where you are coming from but over several decades of listening to music, I have come to the realization that most people have no appreciation of a beautiful melody, soaring harmonies or thoughtful, heartfelt lyrics. Hence in the eyes (and ears) of the general population, Dan's work will always go largely unnoticed. So let the masses have their AC/DC, Taylor Swift, Bieber and other assorted crap that requires little or no thought and I will happily keep listening to the great man's music.

Dan was an amazing man on every level💋💋💋 All of his musical gifts were gifts from Heaven. He experienced love found & love gone, like we all do/have. Grateful he left songs here for us to enjoy, reminisce & remember. Never will there be another delightfully pure Spirit like Dan Fogelberg. What a huge blessing in my life. I miss his Spirit, expressive eyes, down to Earth demeanor & naturally his songs. I miss my friend.❤❤❤

I'm a huge Dan Fogelberg fan and just marvel over the man but every time I come to this song after not hearing it for a while I am just reminded what a beautiful song this is!!! My only regret in the song is that it doesn't have as much orchestration in it that I hear in a lot of his songs in the past. I hear the strings very faintly but if they were more pronounced that would do it for me😁👍

Dan Fogelberg was an amazing artist and a huge inspiration to me as I began my radio career. Worked at KBCO Boulder and thankfully I was able to play deep into his catalog. I really miss him.

SO i have a question...has anyone found anything that says Dan was a christian? i have not found anything in print but some of his songs suggest to me that he was and just didnt publicise it. How would he have some of the words i have heard if he wasnt. I would have to agree with cbhere that he is with Jesus.  He really speaks to us so loudly thru his music...chilling. Love ya Dan.

Wow! Always loved Dan. His souveneirs album was the first album I rode my bike to the record store to buy. First of all he is the easiest guy to look at. Second he speaks from his soul to yours. He taught. He loved. He was sexy!
I loved the name Daniel that was written on his album as a teenager. My first born son named Daniel. Only name agreed upon. Not my first choice. So he has had an impact on my life as a teenager. Raising my four boys in Utah. Being a California surfer girl. I tried to get to his last concert and was unable to. I googled his name and the last couple of days learned more about him. My mother was also born in Illinois. Though my first born has his name. My second has his birthday. My first born son write short stories published his first book at the age of 10. Has filmed many iTunes short movies he wrote also at a young age. Has won numerous awards in cash for his stories and movies.
Plays piano, guitar, and various flutes & Irish Basra drum. As back up for his father. Recording artist from Tennessee. Dan Fogelberg , He is the best imy opinion. Style is exceptional. Legend in my eyes! I sing and play piano and guitar. I have a dream. Daniel my son and I are going to be writing music to words I have written. To the plan of life.
Daniel is serving a LDS mission in Florida. And will be back in a year. His brother second son equally as qualified is serving a mission teach in the Andes of Chile and two other brothers will be serving.
I served in Rome for the Savior a privilege. Best time learning about Christ. Best raising my four boys alone.

loved your post.....Carol.......I also served a mission,,,,,my two sons have sserved also.......I discovered Dan Fogelberg in 1976 as a manager of a music store -----the greatest musical talent this earth has ever produced -----I saw Dan 3 times in concert......the last in 1984 at the Marriott Center at BYU-----Dan was not just a musician, but a Prophet in his own right.......his lyrics abundantly prove this----as they also reveal that he understood a great deal about the plan of salvation......and I know his passing only led to his acceptance of the gospel in the spirit world !

This is such a beautiful song you can feel his pain, I don't know why I listen to this song I loved someone so much and them it was over I was left alone. going home and seeing a empty house that belong to him my stuff was still in the house but the pain was hard to realize it was over.
