Fleetwood Mac - Hypnotized Lyrics

It's the same kind of story
That seems to come down from long ago
Two friends having coffee together
When something flies by their window
It might be out on that lawn
Which is wide, at least half of a playing field
Because there's no explaining what your imagination
Can make you see and feel
Seems like a dream
They got me hypnotized
Now it's not a meaningless question
To ask if they've been and gone
I remember a talk about North
Carolina and a strange, strange pond
You see the sides were like glass
In the thick of a forest without a road
And if any man's hand ever made that land
Then I think it would've showed
Seems like a dream
They got me hypnotized
They say there's a place down in Mexico
Where a man can fly over mountains and hills
And he don't need an airplane or some kind of engine
And he never will
Now you know it's a meaningless question
To ask if those stories are right
'Cause what matters most if the feeling
You get when you're hypnotized
Seems like a dream
They got me hypnotized

On overnight drive from Indiana to North Carolina, put in a disc of this song repeated over and over. Got me through the night. Poor performance by them LIVE. But studio
is awesome. Too bad they can't dwell on this, like in the good live Version, but to the maxxx. Should be the theme for Dreams. Want it to be the maxx for all music evermore, as in Zeplin
    Battle of Evermore....

  28. D.... H....

I am from North Carolina and this song's incredibly eerie sound has always captivated me. Also, I have often wondered about the song's reference to the "strange, strange pond" whose "sides were like glass." Does anyone know anything more about this reference? Please let me know if you do.

  29. R.... H....

    I had this album

  30. t.... ....

My brother and I were on a roadtrip, and we got into one of "those conversations": you know, the kind are Beyond Deep. Somehow it involved the movie "Altered States", and from there moved onto Carlos Castaneda. Then, inevitably, I started quoting this song! "There's man down in Mexico who can fly over mountains and hills..."

  31. K.... J....

It reminds me when I was a child

  32. M.... S....

Wow out of this world. I have always loved this song and the haunting guitar work. Bob Welch had a special feel for otherworldly composition.
    Genius.

  49. B.... ....

Best FM song of the "lost" years between Green and Buckingham/Nicks.

  50. P.... M....

I think sadly he was a forgotten member of Fleetwood Mac. I remember seeing them on the Midnight Special, and Bob was wonderful, what a crime the he was not put into the Rock hall with the rest of the Mac!!!!!

  51. T.... M....

    Carlos Castenada brought me here

    F.... D....

    Yes this is true

  55. D.... G....

Bob Welch! THE most underrated and under appreciated rock musician of the 20th Century.

  56. R.... N....

    Hypnotised for sure.

  57. I.... B....

Ethereal, otherworldly tune. A truly inspired masterwork.

  58. L.... D....

I love this song I discovered it three years ago in Enterprise Alabama on a rainy day... can anyone explain to me the meaning of this song thanks in advance

    L.... D....

I'm of the opinion that no-one can say for certain about the meaning. After all, the album was entitled "Mystery to Me"...
Having said that, I'll give you my thoughts: seems there are 3 different "stories" being repeated. But, as the song starts off, "It's the same kind of story". Each of us can see the same event but interpret it differently; as Welch says," there's no explaining what your imagination can make you see & feel".
It seems to me Welch is singing about UFO's. & E. T.s.
As regards the strange N.C. pond, (I live here), I've hiked many a trail around what are called Carolina Bays. The origin of these weird, almost perfectly round ancient ponds/lakes are to this day unexplained by Science! Maybe Welch is repeating the story about E. T.s creating these "strange ponds."
The story about Mexico could be someone smoking some powerfull stuff & imagining they can fly...
Others will have different opinions I'm sure. (Maybe someone can dig up an explanation by Welch himself?)

  59. S.... P....

This is very unusualm, I have the cassette from Rumours in 77. Pre Stevie sounds unique and different.

  60. M.... G....

    Totally hypnotized by this song...

  61. d.... ....

How do I explain the chills and feelings I get every time I listen to this song. My mind wanders to those past times of lovers, friends and family that are no longer here with us. I am in my late 60's and this song always took me back in a dream like state to my youth. Wow I blinked and a whole lifetime went by. I Love this song so much and the happy tears it brings to my eyes. Sit back and let this song take your mind for a ride with it's haunting beauty. Seems like a dream you got me hypnotized.

  75. T.... W....

    Otherwise, the song sounds nice

  76. T.... W....

I don't want to be sinking in a glass-walled pond in North Carolina, in a forest without roads, it gives me the creeps.

  77. G.... W....

    Once again Christine's haunting keyboards

  78. O.... ....

Bob Fuckin Welch ! Rejoice !

  79. C.... R....

What kind of monster would not dig this? Lol

    C.... R....

    One with no soul.

  80. H.... M....

    Great tune !!

  81. S.... B....

If only Green had stayed then brought on Nicks and Buckingham wow that would have been badass. I love Fleeetwood Mac with Peter Green and post of course. Rumors is my favorite album. Definitely more of a blues vibe with Green's work.Mick Fleetwood is flawless with his drumming I've seen his drum solo live many times and never disappoints, ever.

    S.... B....

Yes yes yes integrate all the sounds it's actually possible! The core of the group is the Rhythm Trio everything around it is just fairy dust! I'm sure it one point they would have been open to this idea. No ego just music

  82. R.... O....

so good and being a Fleetwood mac fan but I have never heard of this wonderful track, more please

    R.... O....

Was on the radio a lot

  83. D.... H....

Dance a jig 2 it Bob w was great

  84. P.... G....

Every time I go to desert to do some peyote listen to this song realy you can fly over mountains and hills down here in México

    P.... G....

I don't have those resources, so I do a couple hits of acid & fly over the hills of southwest Wisconsin. Saw God on 4 hits there in 1974 ... it was NOT for the faint hearted!!! But He was cool & rescued me from the apocalypse I had driven into, LMAO!!!

  85. T.... S....

Mick Fleetwood was a great producer, among other talents.

  86. k.... ....

I think the world of Bob Welch, but the guitar genius, the thread of notes that moves fluidly through this and every song on this album is due to the genius of Bob Weston. Give him the credit he deserves and RIP to him as well.

    k.... ....

You're right. Had to get the album out; Weston was lead guitarist. Welch was backup/rhythm

  87. T.... ....

Bob Welch – lead vocals, acoustic and electric guitar
Bob Weston – electric guitar solo and rhythm, backing vocals
Christine McVie – Hohner Pianet, keyboards, backing vocals
    John McVie – bass guitar
    Mick Fleetwood – drums

    T.... ....

You got to hand it to the Mac in that they knew how to pick the guitarist after Peter Green and Company left. Bob was a Hotshot guitarist from the West Coast. He seemed to like Americans after this hence Lindsey and his folky music ways

  88. T.... ....

Up there with any track from 'Rumours', 'Mirage' or 'Tango In The Night'...

  89. D.... ....

    Song about the supernatural.

    D.... ....

Written by Bob Welch after ha had a vivid dream one night in Benifold Mansion that Fleetwood Mac owned for a few years.

  90. D.... H....

Heaven is this song. Hell is reading everyone’s opinions on different eras/guitarists in this band. Dig the vibe and shut the fuck up

  91. t.... j....

bob welch was a master of his craft missed dearly

  92. E.... L....

Best ufo song ever hands down.

  93. m.... r....

    Buckingham/Nicks weren't needed big mistake.

  94. S.... ....

Classic like Trump for President and bozobama arrested for treason along with slick willy Clinton don't hate cuz we making America great while snowflakes keep trying to create something that ain't y'all need to take a brake in the bottom of the lake a dirt nap in a burlap napsack word to that chord is phat

  95. L.... ....

Feel like smokin' a joint and watching the sun set. Or the moon rise.

  96. R.... S....

I first heard Fleetwood Mac perform Hypnotized at Summer Break II held in Texas circa 1977 -- a two-day festival in a sprawling wooded area. It was the peak of the Buckingham/Nicks era, yet the band played earlier songs. They performed at night under the stars. Nicks was enchanting during Hypnotized, dancing around the stage. We were all mesmerized. I'll never forget it.

  97. e.... p....

    Only gets better with age
Happy Birthday today(November 26) to bassist John McVie. Cheers!
