Fitzgerald, Ella - Where Or When Lyrics

It seems we stood and talked like this, before
We looked at each other in the same way then
But I can't remember where or when

The clothes you're wearing are the clothes, you wore
The smile you are smiling you were smiling then
But I can't remember where or when

Some things that happened for the first time
Seem to be happenin' again
And so it seems that we have met before
And laughed before, and loved before
But who knows where or when

Some things that happened for the first time
Seem to be happenin' again
And so it seems that we have met before
And laughed before, and loved before
But who knows where or when

When you're awake, the things you think
Come from the dream you dream
Thought has wings, and lots of things
Are seldom what they seem
Sometimes you think you've lived before
All that you live to day
Things you do come back to you
As though they knew the way
Oh the tricks your mind can play

These romantic songs are a milestone in jazz history

  2. A.... I....

The pride of American music. A voice that makes you feel like someone is pouring honey and scotch on your head while you are in the shower.

  3. G.... D....

Ella's great of course but Dean Martin crushed this song.. the vibe he adds is untouchable.

  4. A.... S....

THE American voice. THE voice of WOMEN. ....

  5. r.... e....

Rodgers, Hart and Ella, it couldn't get better.

  6. J.... C....

Thank you for putting this up. Loved this song since I was a kid in the 40s. Ella really has a voice like silk and cream. Shame she didn't realise just how good she was.

  7. C.... M....

    I remember every word
    I remember standing with him

I’m here cause Ella is so beautiful, truly indescribable, makes me want to go to some far away European town where I’ll hope to find the one true love that doesn’t end in two years

  10. B.... S....

I just saw Martin Scorcese's 1974 “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore”. This song was featured throughout the movie. I’d heard it before, many years ago, and always found it evocative and haunting. Just for fun I’ve been going through various artists' versions of the song on YouTube, from Sinatra to Peggy Lee. To my mind Ella does it best. She was the consummate vocalist. She could do pop standards as well as she did scat riffs to jazz by Count Basie’s orchestra. And as an ex-musician I can tell you: pop is harder to pull off.

Lol, that movie just ended on TCM, and that's why I'm here.

I'm here because I have loved Ella's voice since I first heard it in the late 40's & in 1952 I went from N. Carolina to Washington DC with five other Marines just to see her perform.

My favorite was the Dion and the Belmonts version because of the fantastic harmonies. This is a great Jazz version.

    s.... ....

I saw her with my girlfriend in 1982, at the Mark Hopkins in San Francisco. I've been to a lot of concerts over the years, but that one tops the list.
