Fitzgerald, Ella - Angel Eyes Lyrics
Try to think that love's not around
But it's uncomfortably near
My old heart ain't gaining no ground
Because my angel eyes ain't here
They glow unbearably bright
Need I say that my love's misspent
Misspent with angel eyes tonight
So drink up all you people
Order anything you see
Have fun you happy people
The laughs and the jokes on me
Pardon me but I got to run
Got to find who's now number one
And why my angel eyes ain't here
Oh, where is my angel eyes
Excuse me while I disappear
Angel eyes, angel eyes

Fitzgerald, Ella Angel Eyes Comments
This is the music that takes your soul & wrings it dry....beautiful
2019 and still in love with her voice
Masterful singing is an understatement. Flawless technique and filled to the brim with every shade of emotion .... brava!
Jazz at its finest ... makes you wanna go to a time of class .. elegance .. cigarettes and nostalgia .. oh to go to this era and observe.
Princess had great taste in music😁. Didn't know she was a Ella fan.
I feel this song is too short.. I need like 2 mins more of it... Loop Is not enough
Love this
Try to think that love's not around
But it's uncomfortably near
My old heart ain't gaining no ground
Because my angel eyes ain't here
Angel eyes, that old Devil sent
They glow unbearably bright
Need I say that my love's misspent

Angel eyes, angel eyes
anyone know where the last part of this song is? In the crown she says “Angel Eyes” twice at the end. I really liked the second one which had more of a voice crack in it. But I can’t find it anywhere but the show.
*edit:* I found it! It’s Angel Eyes from Ella Fitzgerald’s Ultimate album. You can find it on Spotify.
It's only in the remastered version. Unfortunately, Spotify doesn't have the remastered one.
Edit: If you want to find it on youtube, its the video that says Vol. 4, Not the vol. 8
@Hailey Strickland i actually found it on spotify. its called ultimate ella fitzgerald album. the cover is pink
Outstanding. Ella. Outstanding. ....
i heard this bc someone was playing it on a vocal trinity vid... i have never watched the crown
Margaret fuck it uppppp.
I adore Ella, I really truly do... but her version doesn’t do it to me like Frank’s rendition
You guys should listen to the Kenny Dorham version as well. It's amazing
Please get her CD "The Intimate Ella." These were songs she recorded for a film called LET NO MAN WRITE MY EPITAPH (1960). She's just accompanied by Paul Smith on the piano. It contains some of her purest, most beautiful vocalizing. I defy you to listen to her version of I HADN'T ANYONE TIL YOU and not cry.
Beautiful. Sinatra's version is great too.

Leaving Las Vegas brought me here...
Edit: Who downvoted this...?
I love this version but this song belongs to Frank
this song will always make me think of princess margaret now after the crown. despite all the glamour and status, she deserved so much more
I just saw season 2 episode 4 of the crown 😭😭 I paused it immediately to find this song so I can cry to it again lmao
Dedico essa raridade a mim de 40
no one on earth like Ella = old blue eyes favourite singer - playing this on a Friday night suffering from shingles round the eyes - it actually has a soothing effect = majic =
Angel voice
From Season 2, Episode 4 of The Crown, 'Beryl', one of the best directed pieces of television I've seen in YEARS. Along with Episode 2, 'In the Company of Men'; just terrific TV. Period.
I absolutely agree. That scene made me speechless
this is perfect
The Crown brought us all!!
Truly Exquisite! Ella!!!!!Thank you!
Goose bumps and teary eyes
Really pretty song, good for letting emotions out.
Who else is remembering Princess Margaret breaking down in her room during an episode of The Crown?
Hauntingly beautiful
One of her best performances
The Chazz Grup: Another Version of this lovely Classic. Tnhks!

reaches a sublime that no other singer ever approached. Sarah, Carmen, Billie, no one.
I don't know why I didn't recognize her voice when I heard this on The Crown. I had to look it up. Haunting. Ella Fitzgerald was a master vocalist. Sting also does a beautiful job on this song. Love his version in Leaving Las Vegas. Fabulous song. Thank you a lot for sharing it.
Pardon me but I got to run
The fact's uncommonly clear
Got to find who's now number one
And why my angel eyes ain't here
Oh, where is my angel eyes
Excuse me while I disappear
What key?
Trinity Bell A minor
It was also sung by Sting for the movie Leaving Las Vegas. Super good!
She is my favorite. I love everything about her voice!!!
What version is this? In what record can it be found?
I'm so excited to read that so many of you came here via The Crown. I haven't seen it yet but I'm grateful that these movies and shows are introducing fabulous music and singers to a wider and new audience.
Such a sad commentary on the state of music that generations have missed these legends. I was lucky to inherit Uncle Al's Jazz Ladies collection. Hopefully, Film Makers will intro some more of these great classics.
First, “Cry” now this. Thank you #TheCrown
They just don’t make them like they used too!!! Don’t get any better.......
*_Ella Bella_* 😚
Wow.. Ella's voice is so beautiful, so clear, like nothing I've ever heard or ever will hear again. She pronounces each syllable of a word. Like ain't and you can hear the T Pronounced in the ain't.
I love Ella's style and her God gifted voice. I Always have since I was a little girl. My father introduced her to me along with the other jazz greats. Ella was..is my favorite.
Yes oh I love me some Ella..no one had a voice like her..her I'm watching the crown and knew it was Ella record..rip Ms ella

Yup, had to YouTube this up cuz of that episode....
Yep, I must confess I didn't know this song before I heard on The Crown, I had to hear the whole thing again
Me too.
Cleo Laine does a beautiful version of this with Mel Torme, with her hubby, John Dankworth, on sax.
Me too! I love this song since i ear it!
Same here, I'm at the office inmerse in her voice...
Soft, sweet, beautiful and immortal.

Wow! What an amazing voice Ella had.
Hi can anybody tell me what key this version is in? I have a jazz piano book that has angel eyes accompaniment but it's in another key. Any help would be appreciated :)

extra:
Excuse me while I disappear
angel eyes...
Perfection, and a live performance. So few can do that today.
J. P. Bowie Crazy she sounds so good live. Didn't occur to me it was live until the applause at the end & scrolling to see this comment. Such a talent she was. ♡
Ella and Frank, so different yet both perfection.
Don't forget chet!!
The fact's uncommonly clear-she's number one and this version is better than the one with the full orchestra behind her. She actually hit a bad note near the beginning of that one. This is perfection which we expect from her or is it Her?
i WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY VERSION WHERE THERE WAS A FULL ORCHESTRA.

Bellisima canción. Beautifull song. Bellisima
Can't decide which version is my fave, this one or Sinatra's
96 years ago a legend was born.
This song makes my heart flutter. The most beautiful voice of her era!
