The TB 303 came out in 1981 and only made up to 1984. It wasn't very popular at the time and Roland lost a lot of money on them. It was meant as a replacement for bass guitar. Roland sold them off cheap at the end of production. I like the new Behringer clone. It's very close, but with the ability to plug into your laptop and programme it. It's also really cheap.

There should have been a massive 303 solo at 3:03. Missed chance.

Check out Roland's recent remake of it, TB-03. It certainly looks like the original. Or there's the TB-3 which came out not long ago as a kind of successor to the 303. I'd gladly take either if I could afford it.

Could be intentional. "Fatboy" seems to be an atomic bomb reference, not to mention the video "Sunset (Bird of Prey)" which clearly refers to nukes and even MKULTRA.

Fatboy is slang, and I would imaging the play on word Phat and slim means slick or some such. Incidentally I have heard Fatboy used as slang for muslim and comes directly from the name "Fatboy Slim = Muslim". A modern form of rhyming slang "You see that fatboy over there? Yeah he's handing out copies of some book".

Note that rhyming slang does not reflect as a descriptive of the subject in any way and the only requirements for its use are for reasons of phonics. It's gotta rhyme you silly banker.

That could've been worded a lot better.

I've read some reviews on the TB-303 and a lot of composers have disliked it from the cumbersome coding process - but its so darn prevalent in prominent electronic music because of its great texture. I guess you've got to know what notes to accent, what notes to connect, what notes to leave staccato, etc... and then have the time to transpose onto the TB-303 your bass line and have the knowledge of the input process. Daft Punk has some good Roland TB-303 work. I wonder what kind of filters are used.

+Jay Flippen the 303 uses a moog tyoe 24db lowpass dont be fooled when ppl say its a 18db ;)

+F -André It's a 24dB design but realistically it provides an 18dB/octave slope because of the way it's driven and loaded.

Yup. Good nick, by the way, I love Nyle Steiner's diode "chain" balanced Sallen-Key filter. Similar to the early Korg MS20 filter but with way less control breakthrough, and hell of a chunky sounding.

I had a TB-303 for years and then a 505 and an 808. So much fun. Now everything is done with software.  I think it only levels the playing field though, so its a good thing.
