Fall Of Troy, The - A Man. A Plan. A Canal. Panama. Lyrics
The turn of the century, that's turning out wrong.
No matter what words they say, you can rest assured.
The stinging wind, surrounding is.
Pulling strings, and clipping wings, I knew there was no time.
We can dream, and speak through sleep, and in our minds, pick out the signs.
The turn of the century, that's turning out wrong.
No matter what words they say, you can rest assured.
She comes over to me, and takes a seat right across from the sea.
She answers questions and pulls from the deep.
Calling out to the sun, to the sun.
Freeze frames were intended, but lacking funds.
If you knew you'd suffer. I'm making it up.
Lost my sense of direction, de-railed, eject, off the starboard side.
Who am I to demand their lives? Their fate is mine.
Will I survive?
So sweet you called, but I won't answer...
So sweet you called, but I won't answer...
Force-feed your ego compactor...
And let go! And let go!
If my reputation precedes me,
then I'm staying here comatose.
You get your way, I'll get on mine!
Shutter at the sight of the front door, my heart might stop.
As thin as innuendo I stare through her windows.
Play the night away, I play the night away for fear of nothing to win.
You asked for my opinion? I'm keeping my hands to myself!

Tu no eras Robertitaah??? ;D
thank you
7:31 - 8:02 Love this so much, it's almost like a The Mars Volta tribute
I could listen from 5:20 to 6:26 on repeat for days
Haha I forgot this is the best song ever made shame on me
Added to my playlist as soon as I heard 2:23
Anybody else hear a Ron Burgundy sound clip in the intro?
Stepping back and observing the music, this band was way ahead of its time when it came to math rock. Jesus. Nothing comes close to emulating this.
I mean there was tons of bands like this but with all there own sound, with out bands like botch, converge, car bomb, daughters, ed gein etc etc they wouldn't exist. Tfot started as a emo band in the first place in high school then they formed into more of a mathcore band not math rock. Math rock isn't heavy Math rock has been a combo of Midwest emo/stinky type playing with mathcore playing
One of the most legendary songs from one of the greatest progressive rock records of all time. Don't be fooled, this isn't just some 'screamo' band.. this music will be reflected upon 100+ years from now as the foundation for progressive rock and roll. We are blessed to have been able to witness it in person in the era in which it was written. Don't take it for granted.
This shits fucked. I love it.
So heavy
All of Thomas' lyrics are like every mistake you can ever possibly make with a woman, but his guitar work is like every one night stand you still fantasize about to this day lol..
Yeah, his lyrics are too much
Who came here from searching "Troy's Plan"?
Listen at 1.25x speed
Came here from siri
The breakdown in this is so redundant. It hits so hard. I love it.
what a way to kill it
My plan a man panama
How they able to do that ... Vitamins ?
I love this comment
how to write the greatest breakdown ever:
saw them live in 07' for the release of manipulator when they were opening for Deftones had no fucking clue who they were but was in complete amazement soon after and have been a fan since
oooh that's nice
You'd have to be retarded to see this as anything but a masterpiece
Mathcore
fucking unbelievable song. Every riff and verse is pure magic. fuck me
this song is so fucking amazing. the when fall of troy chugs, they fuckin chug.
Tom Guerrero you were high as fuck when you wrote that comment weren't you?
They fucking do. What sets them apart is that they blended equal parts hardcore and math, something I feel like they perfected to a point. They're like Emerson Lake and Palmer in a sense.
5:33 is pure bliss
best palindrome ever
Not really, there is a palindrome with names
No X in Nixon
Nico Go hang a salami. A lasagna hog.
Dr. Awkward is a pretty great one
the best one on the album
The only people who can't appreciate this song are the musically immature..
Read this title backwards ;)
OMG this has forever changed my life =O
dang, i don't see it. mind explaining.
@Gogogogogmon a man a plan a canal panama..... amanaplanacanalpanama .... get it?
@Gogogogogmon
its a palindrome
HOW DID I NEVER NOTICE THIS :O
Fall of Troy always manged to make a new sound and this is one of their ultimate triumphs.
+almostideal #morellodiditfirst
Morello is more scratchy, he sounds like a DJ on guitar. I'd put Erak as a mix between between Morello and Dave Knudson (Botch era)
+Lone Wolf Morello is a shlub. don't even compare him to Erak
almostideal erak crushes morello. to dust. just my opinion lol.
Oh hell yeah, but I think he'd be nothing without the influence.
A lesser writer might have stretched out the separate sections of this track into an entire record. TOUR. DE. FORCE.
French toast is amazing tho.
It's like comparing Grand Theft Auto V with french toast.
Wait... Dance Gavin Dance vs. The Fall of Troy? Why? They're hardly even similar at all... That's like comparing Grand Theft Auto V with Skyrim.
What is the guitar tuned to in this song ?
standard E
@Overlord Audiobooks Guitar is E standard and Bass is Half step; It't one of their first songs with experimenting in half step for bass.
Anybody know what effect is used half way through the song?
No shit. Ihs on.
The title is a palindrome! read it backwards!
They shouldn't be in the same category period.
I like both, in fact DGD are pretty inspired by TFOT sometimes.
RichardIsAlive lol Will Swan is his own inspiration
Dude! Same here. I still jam to this.
Well harder to play doesn't necessarily mean it's better
on a side note, I appreciate your picture greatly. Coheeeeed!
The rhythm combined with the chords are literally insane dude, so hard to play.
I love them both<3
Ahhh sophomore year...
this song is amazing!! this song is a song!
@InLocoParentis96 Oh nice! You have a pretty sick taste in music homie!
watch?v=Bu5yEJ17L7Q
para medics? ja ja vewy nois
Then hail the sun
The hail the sun lul
HA! GET IT BECAUSE THE FALL OF TROY HAS MATH-CORE INFLUENCES AND DANCE GAVIN DANCE DOESNT
but on a more serious note, i agree 100%
2:22 I can listen to this part all day long
Well your bad for not making that apparent. *shrug*
you get a point for making me check my email, but you're taking me way too serious, I enjoy both bands lol
Where did this faggy unprompted band war come from?
Both bands are cool, stop it.
They're different. I think it varies from CD to CD which band is better.
thomas does it using his delay pedals.Just messing with the knobs, and i think he also uses his line6 FM4 here.
oh hell yea, 2:30 is some fast hand work to get caught up on, even though they are simple chords
6:50 sounds like a breakdown in a song called tropical caterpillar lol
Just puttin this out there, I just finished learning this song today, and I honestly found the 6:25 easier than the 2:30. mostly because 1. a chord type i dont use a lot 2. breakdown rhythm. It was the last part I got down solid, but to each his own I suppose.
There both fucking fantastic. One is just straight up heavy as fuck, and the other one is so fitting and perfectly built up to.
nope
6:25, bro
2:30 is insanely easier to play than 6:25
Especially the lick at the end of every riff.
no you got it all wrong my friend 2:30 is the best breakdown ever no question about that your wrong fail sorry
6:25 best breakdown ever
Not even close. Sorry man.
CAAAAAALLLIIIING OUUUUUT TO THE DRUGS...TO THE DRUGS...
Fall of Troy-favorite band since I discovered them...which was abour 5 years ago
It says "Georgia Tech said they would not take the field if a black man (were in play)". You can't hear the part in parathesis in the song though.
this used to be my least favorite track of the album, but I've recently come to realise that this song is FUCKING AMAZING.
bankruptselling hard to imagine this song being a least favorite at any point. Imo it is their absolute best song, hands down. to each their own tho.
HOLY SHIT I JUST NOTICED THAT O_O
nope you're not crazy, you definitely did hear that lol either that or i'm crazy as well
yep. it's a palindrome
At 0:12 seconds, in the background you can faintly hear someone talking. I swear it sounds like George Bush saying, "Tell the dukes were gonna have to take the field if that black man..." then it cuts off from the music. Tell me I'm not crazy.
I always wondered what that was, man. Been listening to these guys since '06 and could never figure out what that sample was
Sounds like Will Ferrel from Anchorman to me
It’s a bit of radio interference into the amp during recording. They kept it.
Check out the band "Audiobakery". They have a similar sound, and I think you'd enjoy them too :)
I just got MINDFUCKED.
Dis song. All dis song.
I don't agree that much, but I'm liking you comment for the Mars Volta mention, which is a band I really like. These guys seem to be forgotten these days, damn. What's wrong with people these days?
Welcome aboard. :)
never heard this band, and is fucking amazing at all!
amanaP lanaC a nalP a naM A
F.O.T.and the Mars Volta have a similar sound. Cool.
temaso el manipulator es un discaso para la historia de la musica
i love DGD and the TFOT but ive really never seen any comparisons between the 2. at all.
I definitely see the comparison
Dumb fuckers, and dumb and dumb Ever heard of at the drive in yeah same people as mars volta dumb fuckers, and dumb
6:49 on - THAT is a Goddamn breakdown. Not chugudun.chugudun.squeeeal. Fuck that.
"..fdjskafdsskrrrrbshh a black man"
I don't really think it's sports radio, lolol
nice palindrome. lol
god damn. nothing is quite as refreshing as having your ears fucked by 75 songs merged into 1.
I feel so much Mars Volta when I listen to these guys. Even though Mars Volta came out later, the sounds are so bizarre and off and absolutely awesome.
ixRoosterxi backwards spells troll :D
It's nice to know I solved a mystery for someone =)
Yeah, it's something transmitting into Thomas's amp. I think it maybe a radio station broadcasting baseball. I've listened to it enough times that's what I came up with.
This was pretty dope
Does anyone else hear the quiet speak in the beginning? If anyone talked about it in the comments, I can't find it. Youtube needs a better comment system.
