Everything Everything - Schoolin' Lyrics
Brother you look like the Taj Mahal
One colossal dome above you and the smell of something other
A pillar and a scimitar
A little…
Stretching over me and dangled from the coastguard in a chopper
The scaffold of me all awry
A little...
Broke your shoulder on the library steps
Hanging 'round there in the dark just doing nothing or whatever
What do you mean you saw the stars?
You little...
I could write it in a murder font
I don't want them to tell us apart!
You say that I'm an overlord? I've got myself a fire hydrant, with more tyrant
In watery blasts, then all of my past!
You seen me on the bridge a lot. But I never leapt over, the pent upper
My number is up, my number is up
But infinite and joyless little high fives are singing "Praise the lord"
And "Pitter patter this schooling? Is this schooling?" and "You matter not, and you matter not"
And is it, the flogging of a Flintstone
That I'm supposed to be?
The cerebellum get schoolin', and no schoolin'
The drummer goes on, the drama goes on
(Teach me how to hold)
And I don't wanna make a scene
I don't wanna think about the 3rd world hunger or whatever
'Cause thinking always comes across
A little...
There's a meeting of the worlds tonight
Right above my head a miracle the sun erupt forever
I barely ever raise my eyes
A little
(Teach him how to hold!)
And oh I wanna make the peace
And God I gotta be on the train past the ruins the wall and the druids oh please
I'm whining like a breaking bus
Maybe I can sit here and do nothing clever with a laser
I'm not about to open up!
The drummer goes on, the drama goes on
The drummer goes on, the drama goes on
My number is up, my number is up
Earth, I take a long time, to learn about the big one
Gorilla limb swipe and beat, and I learn nil about
Earth
Remember how men, would understand the heavens
But leaving those streetlights on
You can't see nothing there
So learn me anything good
Teach me something that works, I take a long time, to learn about the big one
Gorilla limb swipe and beat, and I learn dick about Earth
Remember good men, would understand the heavens
And leaving those streetlights on
A ghost dark hemisphere Earth
I take a long time, to learn about the big one
Gorilla limb swipe and beat, and I learn dick about
Earth
Remember good man, you understand the heavens
But leaving those streetlights on?

Everything Everything Schoolin' Comments
2020 seems like a good year for a new Everything Everything album.
My 11 month old loves this video, has since about 4 months. Wherever we are and however upset he may be, I put this on and he'll just stop and watch, sometimes does a little wiggle too. I think it's a combination of the visuals and the drum beat. Either way I'm sure about 200k of these views are courtesy of my boy!
Their musical craft definitely shares something with 10CC - more music in one song than most artists achieve in an album.
Brother you look like the Taj Mahal
One colossal dome above you
And the smell of something other,
A pillar and a scimitar
A little
Yes I miss you like a formless hide
Stretching over me and dangled
From the coastguard in a chopper
The scaffold of me all awry
A little
Broke your shoulder on the library steps
Hanging round there in the dark
Just doing nothing or whatever

Michael is the MOST underrated drummer. Dude knows how to find and sit in a muhfuckin GROOVE.
Love your videos !! 💯
everytime i listen to this band i get so fucking pissed they haven't blown up because they're genuinely one of the best bands I've ever heard. love these guys
What an underrated song and video by such an overlooked band!
genuinely pissed this doesn't have like 2 million views at LEAST, this song and music vid deserve so much more
Do they have songs simmilar to this one? I listened to a bunch and none are progreseive like this one, they're way more alternative ans indy-ish then this one. Amazing band overall. An answer would be much appriciated.
late reply, but their proggiest song is probably "Weights"
MY KZ YR BF is also really cool
There's also Zero Pharaoh
de si 'tohin
Andrej Antohin Suffragette Suffragette
Video and track 10/10
The interplay between the drums and bass on this is fantastic, especially from 3.08
You know your stuff. Intricate.
What category of music would this fall under?? I would love to hear more like this ^^
I would broadly categorize this as Art Pop. I honestly don't know what would directly compare to this, but Art Pop in general has lot's of great music to offer.
It's hard to define really... there's influence from a lot of genres... rock, electronic, pop, experimental, indie. Maybe give a listen to Foals (earlier albums are more like this) and Bombay Bicycle Club, they're relatively similar
Everything Everything actually classifies as Indie Rock.
Math Rock meets Electronica
Never liked "indie rock". Being independent from big labels is not a style.
But okay, (s)he asked for a category.
1:35
I'm lovin' it.
i love the quirkiness of this song
This song is awhesome!
Jun 24 Cádiz, nice!
"Remember good man, you understand the heavens
but leaving those streetlights on."
too deep.
can you explain that part?
In my opinion this means, as human beings our faith and belief in religion or god(this is what I get from "the heaven") is too strong but we are still so insecure about ourselves and our properties so that we can't even stand the idea of being in the dark(like turning the streetlights off) that could lead any problem.
Late to the party, but I think it's also a little about light pollution. Earlier in the song, he says "But leaving those streetlights on, you can't see nothing there..." Like how light pollution has blotted out the stars or milkyway, so quite literally, we understand the heavens and yet with all the lights on, we can not see them.
It’s about hoe u can’t see stars with the street lights on since it’s too bright
God. This is bloody fantastic.
Please promote these guys in the US Sony
The little "doo-doo-doo doo doo" whistle is driving me mad. I'm sure some british company has stolen it and used it in their adverts.
McDonald's? ;)
+Ella Jones yeah maybe!
Bet you counted how many it was before making the comment
Tanta Roba
Basslinegasm.
I'm watching this video and thinking of The Knife's "We Share Our Mother's Health".
Awesome tracks
This one will always stay my favourite!
Can't wait to see these guys in Berlin this summer <3
I like that these guys are being themselves and no one else

Bruh...
godlike
@TransistorSnack The bass line that convinced me to get a bass.
What a groove.
GREAT song!
If anyone can, could you explain the meaning of this song. Because the lines
"But infinite and joyless little highfives are singing Praise the Lord, and pitter patter this schoolin,' is this schoolin? And you matter not and you matter not"
Confuses me. :P
Umm judging from one interview script I read explaining the song and the brilliant video , plus the lyrics you posted...I'm guessing the lyrics are about a kid(s) in a religious boarding school. The joyless high fives are kids clapping as shown in the video (a sort of self 'high five') to songs of praise which they don't really care for singing.
Apparently its roughly something about schoolboy mischief and how boys will be, boys regardless of how much you might try to hold them to a strict moral code. The lines 'and you matter not and you matter not' seems almost bitter though...
But meh, I'm not really good at this kinda thing; I'm just clutching at straws, but that's my two cents :)
The song is generally highlighting the issues with the Western education system. On a cynical level, we are being brainwashed (religious symbols/school choir singing) to follow the norms established by society. Less controversially, mainstream schooling simply fails to teach us the important qualities of life, rather preferring to shove often useless and inapplicable information down our throats: we 'learn dick about Earth.' This is a shallow entry of my interpretation.
this video is so satisfying to watch
Ikr. The ice cream at 1:13 though!
wow reminds me of N.E.R.D kind of!
Dat guitar, doh.
I love there songs especially cough cough and kemosabe

oooft, the song alone is great, but the music video as well. perf
Cannot stop listening to this
You must be the dumbest person I have ever seen on the internet MrSyheriat. Those are "his" favourite ever, you don't get any input into his decision.
Shit tastes, these bands are all no more than 10 years old. What are you, 15? Fucking hell. They are all pretty good bands, but favourite ever? No son.
My favourites bands/artists ever (Foster the people, Walk the Moon ,Alt j , Imagine Dragons, TDCC, Vampire Weekend, Tame Impala, Peter Bjorn and John, Coldplay,Phoenix, The Naked and Famous , Kodaline, 1975, Mumford and Sons, ) -
I'm so late - perfect song - Love It - Can't get enough - So amazing
this song is perfect :)
"Right above my head a miracle the sun erupt forever. I barely ever raise my eyes."
"Remember how men, would understand the heavens? But leaving those streetlights on you can't see nothing there."
I used to ignore these lyrics because I couldn't understand Jonathan, but now I feel like they're about how man has forgotten his place in the world. How we are all alive because of the sun, but none of us look up to see it because we're too busy living our lives.
just can't get enough! Everything Everything is everything I want from a band.
This is good stuff
Argh, I disliked that by accident...
Love this band - I can never tell what the fuck they're saying, but saying the actual lyrics never makes much sense either so you can just mumble along without your friends thinking that you're crazy...
@prankedmama it's meant to be about how people r constantly making mistakes and how we should learn from them but we don't
hey fun stuff ... notes of frippish sometimes
Good guys Everything Everything: Put lyrics in the description so you're not left guessing.
Try Yeasayer, Miike Snow & Dutch Uncles. Granted IKerbzY's suggestions were pretty spot on!
What a video,what a song,what a BAND.Best BAND!

arcade fire/sky ferreira

Hey people who listen to this music... what other artists do you really like?
Between me and you, this is our little secret..
EE I love you!
I've loved this band for a couple of years now. They're so fresh, and the composition is amazing. I know a bit about Bass, and the Bass player is...fantastic. Massively underrated. I'd love the opportunity to interview him if the opportunity ever arrived!
Carry on being you, Everything Everything.

Why the fuck would people dislike this?
