Eva Cassidy - I Could Have Told You So Lyrics

I could have told you she'd hurt you
Love you a while then desert you
If only you'd asked I could have told you so

I could have saved you some crying
I could have told you he was lying
If only you'd asked I could have told you so

I see her there as I toss and turn and try to sleep
I see him there making promises he'll never keep
And soon it's over and done with
Find someone new to have fun with
If only you'd asked I could have told you so

I could have told you she'd hurt you
Love you a while then desert you
If only you'd asked I could have told you so

I could have saved you a whole lot of crying
I could have told you he was lying
If only you'd asked I could have told you so

I see her there as I toss and turn and try to sleep
I see him there with promises he'll never keep
And soon it's over and done with
Find someone new to have fun with
If only you'd asked I could have told you so

With all of my tears I could have told you so

Eva Cassidy I Could Have Told You So Comments
  1. R.... B....

Two greats right here! One of the best Jazz albums ever made.

  2. m.... ....

    Beyond splendid

  3. M.... ....

One of the greatest singers ever! The only thing is they didn't get the meaning of this song. She is singing to a girl about HIM (because she knows or he is telling a buddy about HER for the same reason. Very subtle. That's why they could have 'told you so'. They had been there and done that. So to speak.

Having said that - Eva Cassidy was a miracle. So don't you folks get all excited about my critique of the use of pronouns in this rendition.

    M.... ....

They're both warning (or consoling) a friend, a woman, about a guy who has done her wrong. The pronouns work fine for me. It's an aligned twosome singing about a rotter they both knew/know.

And you forgot to close your parenthetical ;-)

    M.... ....

MeelaESQ im sorry I don't agree that they didn't get the meaning of the song. They wanted a more intimate feeling but it works fine as the meaning you suggest.

  4. M.... O....

I dearly love Eva. Bet your life on that. But, if you didn't know who was doing the vocal with Chuck Brown, wouldn't you almost swear it was Natilie Cole. I sure would, and that's not a bad thing.

  5. M.... E....

Great colloboration by two artists from totally different backgrounds finding common ground. If only democrats and republicans could do this.

  6. k.... ....

Their voices sound so good together--His smoking and raspy and her's sharp and clear as a bell. Would've loved to hear them together!

  7. s.... ....
