Everytime I hear this song I think to myself: "what could have been". Why the fuck didn't they make more tracks like this one? This is bonafide 80's speed/power metal. I can hear Keepers era Helloween in this as well as early Stratovarius when Tolkki was the singer for them.

Because the labels wanted a sound that would win more audiences worldwide. WoT is by far my fav album by them, and this song, in particular, is the song I always point to when folks here in 'Merica wanna laugh at Europe.

It's so curious. Europe from 1982 to 1984 used to sound more like Iron Maiden. From 1985 to 1992 they sounded like Bon Jovi. I love the both eras.

Yep, this is Europe as they should have been. Hard to believe it was barely a year after this that they were suddenly putting out schlocky keyboard-driven hair metal (and no wonder John Norum left once he saw where things were going), but Wings of Tomorrow has been one of my favorite albums for 25 years, ever since I discovered it almost by accident, and this is still my favorite song on the album.

Good bet the record label had more to do with that then the band.

If you want it faster, I can recommend the Nostradameus cover. Still melodic but considerably faster. :P
