@Johnny Martinez Few things I want to say and then I'm done and the floor is yours if you wish. Not intended to trigger.

1. Ugh, Periphery might be the most overrated band of the 21st century. They're like hipster metal to me. (Which may explain why most might agree with you, I believe that's also called the bandwagon fallacy lol.) I find them more unappealing than most I guess. They do have some good songs that stand out like "catch fire" and "erised". And I do like Spencer's vocals on "retrograde" by Jason Richardson. Although periphery has more songs I don't believe anything comes close to "dementia", "spirits away", "isolation blue", "continuum", and so many more.
2. With that being said you have great taste in music overall I must say. I clicked on your profile and I see darkest hour, veil of maya is great, MNEMIC (an incredible band was Mnemic! They're an old favorite of mine, right behind Erra and Soilwork, just wish so bad they would not have broke up) miss may I, after the burial, born of osiris, threat signal, within the ruins, slipknot (who hasn't heard them obviously) etc. I've been into metal so long. Well Erra became my favorite about 5 years ago. They weren't right away but after a bit they became my number 1. Hey to each their own! Nothing personal I assure you. There's so much great music out there thankfully 👍 if you feel the need to comment back go right ahead. You can have the last word. I've said all I want to say on this matter.

@Kennedy1op dude periphery is not even on the same level as erra im sorry to say.... Erra is bad ass but in a different way and different genre of metal.... I mean come on man spencer by himself can sing and scream and grunt better then both singers on erra.... Also the reason why there also so good is because they have 3.... Not 1 or 2 but 3 amazing guitar players especially misha and mark so yes its no wonder alot of metal heads will agree that periphery is far more superior then erra.... However i do love erra and others like them such as AtB....veil of mya.... Born of osiris....... Augment is a god damn masterpiece and the only thing comparable to how flawless it is in entirety is the new vom release. I believe both albums combine rhythmic chugs, beautiful melodies, singing, screaming in the best balanced and complimenting ways. Anyways you need to relisten to every second of augment and repent repent repent for saying its average, in my opinion, lol

Matriarch is incredible too, I'm still listening to it everyday, Lukas is the bomb but Mark Okubo's playing style is what really gets me, fucking Leeloo. thats some sexy guitar playing.

This EP is really good although I feel that Garrison was the voice of Erra and hearing someone else is not the same. Also missing Alan's contributions takes a toll on those catchy melodies. Dont get me wrong I will always like Erra but I really wish they still had the same line up from Impulse.

Wow! What a start to the song! I think this is my favorite track from the new EP! It was Lights City just before I heard this....haha! CANNOT WAIT to see them along with ABR in Seattle! 

Good thing that the new member/s aren't taking them to Generic City.

I love how they went a bit heavier with this ep but still kept the classic sound they have had from the start. Still melodic but heavy as fuck

Jesse's string-skipping solo's are unlike anything i've ever heard, and I'm a Hendrix fan.

@***** I'm certain that they play with 6's tuned to A#/G#, although if you're saying that you prefer more strings for said string-skipping, then yes, it adds intervals to solo's that aren't normally present.

@SkinnyCharlie1 @TYFLOL @Carlos Fapdoola Volume wars... It's all about volume. You can have a great mix without using compression, maximizers, dynamics, exciters etc. but the mix will be such a low volume compared to other commercial tracks. Another factor is of course competing frequencies - you've basically got to prioritize which instruments you'd rather stand out. You can have a really nice and deep kick drum but it's going to compete with your bass lines. So you can use some side-chain compression on the kicks. Layering kicks and bass is always a challenge. I find a lot of the time I'm boosting my kick drum gain and tossing on a limiter + bumping up the 200Hz EQ. Love the way a 60HZ EQ bass + 200HZ EQ kick sound layered. But I digress, many times a band will record their tracks that sound beautiful and crisp, but onces you layer them all together you need to start working on making them blend together - and most important at a decent volume. I've mastered many tracks that came out 60-70% of the volume of other commercial tracks, then have to go back and try to boost up the loudness meanwhile comprimising the quality...

Id love some feedback if any of you know better than I...

It's a good EP and i'll definitely get into it, but it doesnt compare with Augment. Garrison had more diverse vocals and Alans melodies were a lot more memorable.

Ultraviolet, Spirits Away, Frostbite, Vaalbara, Seven.... the latter is much better

Jesse posted a pic on his instagram saying that the next full length will put this EP to  shame. They threw together this music really fast just to show the fans they had nothing to worry about as far as all the member changes

As far as I can tell this member change has been pretty shit if they think we care about how long it takes to write brilliant music. Anyone with a brain knows that quality takes time. And I'm willing to wait forever for it as long as the quality stands to it. Still waiting on Necrophagist over here. >.<

fairly good EP Dreamcatcher was my favorite. They have all developed well in all levels although he Jesse always sings the same way. i wish he would be a more creative singer by adding falsetto notes in between or digs to mix it up.

I dig the new stuff too, but personally, I still think Impulse is their best album overall. 'twas the most consistent from start-to-finish IMO.

@Carlos Fapdoola YES. THANK YOU. You are the first person I've found who thinks Impulse was their best. It was. I still haven't found an album that comes close (except Augment I guess)(and Andromeda). Oh and "Legacy" by Catch the Sun. Reaalllyyy good album.

But yeah Impulse will probably forever be my favorite album ever.

@Steve Aboagye When Impulse came out, I thought it was the best thing to happen to melodic-metalcore (or whatever you want to call it) since Controller by Misery Signals, and it really inspired me as a songwriter. It was technical but done in a methodical way, full of memorable parts, and I loved how each song had it's own structure and tonality. Vaalbara will always be my favorite.
