Eric Clapton - Rollin' And Tumblin' Lyrics

Well, I woke up this morning, my biscuit rolling on.

Well now, come here baby, sit down on daddy's knee.
Well now, come here baby, sit down on daddy's knee.
I want to tell you about the way they treated me.

Well, I rolled and I tumbled, cried the whole night long.
Well, I rolled and I tumbled, cried the whole night long.
When I woke up this morning, all I had was gone.

    you mean andy fairweather?? right?

    O.... A....

Phil Collins doppelganger Bill Collins who can keep a beat

    O.... A....

@RockerPimp The percussionist is indeed Ray Cooper. Neil is correct. He's also sat in with Billy Joel and Sting (I believe) ... no, Sting doesn't sound right. If you care, Google it. Andy Fairweather Low is accompanying Clapton here.

    ROCKIN' LOVED IT

  17. a.... ....

If only they'd recorded the whole thing...

    a.... ....

+alworkedup OK perhaps that's not the whole thing. Any reasons they had to cut it short?

    a.... ....

I think he started playing this spontaneously and the recording engineer wasn't ready for it.  Something like that.

    a.... ....

+Hazhar Ghaderi I don't think it was originally going to record. If you listen, at the end, Clapton ask did you get that?

    a.... ....

+alworkedup it started when they were changing the tape. The makeup girl came out to touch people up and stuff for the cameras, and not wanting to be fussed over Clapton started playing to keep her off the stage :)
Everyone folded in and it became Rollin' and Tumblin'. That is why it fades in (the got the tape in ASAP but missed the first verse) and why he asks at the end, "did you get that".
Source: my folks were lucky enough to be there... so much envy

    a.... ....

I love that you can clearly hear that the musicians weren't even ready for the song. Several times, Nathan East goes into progressions a little late, and Nathan East doesn't mess up if it's a song he had rehearsed for. They clearly don't know how to end the song, and they just kind of let it fizzle out. It's a beautiful, organic performance by a bunch of great musicians who didn't exactly know where they were going but decided to see where they'd go.

As I heard the first few cords of Tears in Heaven I thought it was a Bob Marley song? or Hymm I recognised. Some people started to clap in recognition then stopped. Clapton's first rendition was more emotional than than the second that made the album, 2nd was cleaner without the clapping and the words clearer. we all knew what it was about and there was a church like atmosphere with the organ and gentle playing etc very spiritual. Fathers eyes and Circus were also very special but not released

@MARTIN512610 Wow. You got to see an absolutely legendary performance. What is the matter with your friends that they didn't jump at the chance to go? I would love to hear any other stories you might have from that concert. Were people bawling their eyes out during tears in heaven?

  29. M.... 0....

Ye! It does seem a LONG time ago. I won tickets on BBC Radio 1 (Simon Mayo show) It was short notice and no friends could come so i asked the cleaner at the pub I worked in and she jumped at it. She had danced to Layla the year it first came out! I don't think ANYONE in the audience had heard Tears in heaven before but it was an extremley moving moment of instant audience realisation 'what it was about".

  30. C.... M....

@MARTIN512610 Are you serious? You were literally there?

  31. R.... B....

great version but miss Jack's harp playing. in fact wish i could have been on stage, i blown a mean harp to this

Just incase you were interested, there were at least 3 clapton look alikes in the crowd.
2 guys who looked just like eric is here (I saw one of them in the crowd at knebworth 90 and thought it was the great man himself!/ for about 2 seconds)and one who was the spit of long dark haired 'hippy' eric from the cream days. Lou reed was in there watching and MTV invited the crowd to stay behind and see if he would play. i didn't stay and I don't think he did.

@MARTIN512610 Wow!!!! Finally we know because the song is started in cd...

  36. P.... ....

    Mr. Tambourine Man is awesome!

  37. M.... 0....

Yes, 'I was there" I know it irritates. Eric was sat on stage on his own during a tech break and the audience encouraged him to do somthing, he started messing about then called the band on stage and launched into this, they just got the cameras rolling in time, just electric, a brilliant evening! at the end of the show people shouted requests, 'it's too bad' and 'outside women blues' were ignored. he did 'worried life blues (badly) then launched into the epic 'old love' .
