Enya - S' Fagaim Mo Bhaile Lyrics

[And I Leave My Home]

Maidin is tus an lae
Is fagaim mo bhaile
Ta mo chroise go bron
Is fad ar shiul m'oige

Oiche is me liom fein
Speartha dubh go domhain, a choich
Ag cuimhneamh ar laethanta a bhi
Gan gha agus gan ghruaim
Eistim leis an ghaoth
Uaigneas mor, go deo, a choich

Deireadh an turas mor
Taim bronach, buartha 's briste
I mo dhiaidh nach mbeidh nios mo
Ach, ta se i ndan duinn, a phaisti

Is fada anois an la
A d'fhag me mo bhaile
Nil athas i mo chroi
Nil ann ach an marbh

[Translation]

Morning and the day's beginning
And I leave my home
My heart is breaking
My youth is long past

Night and I am alone
Endless deep black skies
Remembering days that were
Without want and without gloom
I listen to the wind
Endless great loneliness forever

The end of the long journey
I am sad, sorrowful, broken
After me there will be no more (of my kind)
But children, it is our destiny

The day is long past
When I left my home
There is no hope in my heart
There is only death

Uma das mais belas da enya!

. *I l am moved by Enya's songs in Gaelic...*
My favorite Gaelic songs are as follows:
"Na Laetha Geal M'Óige", "March of the Celts",
"Athair Ar Neamh", "Isobella" and the song playing now...

Also I love "As Baile". Which is really "Exile" sung in
intonation...not Gaelic. But it is beautiful.

Thanks for posting this rare track with the beautiful images.

    a.... ....

Thank you for the comment! And you're welcome! All great songs you've mentioned, though I'd have to add Smaointe to that list. Another of the many I adore that Enya has released :)

  3. D.... V....

Beautiful melody , very tragic and sad lirycs, i wonder why,...

  4. L.... ....

I feel these lyrics so deeply. Simple words, but they convey so much emotion

  5. S.... C....

    Wow ... speechless.

  6. V.... C....

Have you listened to Na Laetha Geal M'oige by Enya? It is also kind of sad, but I like it a little more than this song

    V.... C....

Yes, been listening to it since 1988 and still listen to it regularly. I love it. Up there with her best :)

  7. V.... C....

hahaha yeah it is very dark, but still I love her music, it's unique, however, I think I rather not to know the lyrics because some of these songs are very sad

    V.... C....

The lyrics are a bit sad, but beautiful, too. Such is the bittersweet nature of mortality :)

    V.... C....

Yes, I agree with you on that

I've seen other postings of this song. This is, by far, my favorite. Posted 2008, wasn't even aware of Enya until 2011. Once you go Enya, she's in ya! She is with me every day now!

    l.... v....

    Thank you! :)

Hopefully this pronunciation guide, in Donegal Irish accent (where Enya hails from) will help those who wanna learn the lyrics :)
The phonic spellings I used are words pronounced in English, while some aren't. Enjoy!

  18. J.... S....

very beautiful, but the lyrics are so sad!

  19. T.... S....

    What's the title in English?

    T.... S....

And I Leave My Home :)

  20. A.... F....

'S fagaim mo bhaile (I leave my home) Beautiful

  21. L.... K....

This so sad and poignant. I love this... Roma and Enya are the best writing duo ever as well as the best collaborators of making the most beautiful ballads and melodies to stand the test of time. Thank you for uploading this

    L.... K....

You're welcome! Yes, Roma and Enya are definitely among the best! :)

  22. J.... H....

This hit me like a freight train :O I'm simply impressed by the emotion that Enya transports through her voice!

  23. D.... A....

    👍👈😎

  24. A.... R....

Do you know whether Roma Ryan wrote the lyrics of this song?

    A.... R....

I'm pretty certain she did. I think Roma writes all the lyrics? :)

  25. T.... ....

This song is available as an mp3 to download from Amazon (the .co.uk website at least). Just search for it and it'll bring it up with an image of the "The Celts" album.

  26. J.... ....

    Enya es Pleyadiana

  27. T.... ....

Whenever we praise Enya, we should remember to show thanks to everyone else responsible for the writing and production of her music. The distinctive, soothing way the sounds blend and mix isn't a result of Enya's voice, but of the producer.

    T.... ....

That's right. the idea of 'multilayered voice' was by the producer, Nicky Ryan and the beautiful lyrics was done by Roma Ryan

  28. l.... v....

É hipnotizante cada vez que ouço quero ouvir mais e mais ...lindo

  29. S.... D....

So rare!!! Thank you for sharing.

  33. M.... ....

    Very underrated song from Enya

  34. A.... S....

Enya has always been Enya, never less. Will we ever love her enough ?

    A.... S....

Huh? What do you mean "Enya has always been Enya?' I realize it's a compliment, but can you clarify what it is you mean. Thank you.

  35. R.... ....

thank you for a beautiful video for one of enya's most beautiful songs. it totally captures the mood. I have to admit, though, that being a fan for more than 25 years now, I never realised the profound melancholy expressed by this song, other than by its melody and simple arrangement - 'cos I didn't know what the lyrics were about! I love the song even more now. I miss enya's gloomy 'watermark' days. and btw, I know exactly what you mean when you say you could watch grass and wheat blowing all day... ;)

    R.... ....

Hey, thanks Rusty! Yeah, I miss the 'Watermark' (and Shepherd Moons) days, too. Glad you like the video. I still watch it myself. It's soothing :)

    R.... ....

@jimaginata Watermark and Shepherd Moons, definitely ;)

    R.... ....

+Rusty For me, the debut solo album of Enya, which served as the soundtrack for the 1987 BBC documentary series The Celts was Enya at her gloomiest. I loved putting that album on, on a gray, overcast, cold Winter's day.. The Irish are a people given to melancholy, and Enya's music ably embodies that ~

  36. A.... ....

    Красиво, жаль черно-белое

  37. b.... ....

Beautiful video for this song! Well done. And thank you for posting it.

    b.... ....

    Thanks! You're welcome :)

  38. V.... ....

    love it. ...

  39. B.... R....

I listen to Enya every day. She says what I feel, and if it's not in her words, it's in the melody. But I've never heard this song. Thank you for putting this video up. I could watch wheat blowing all day long too! It's soothing.

    B.... R....

J'écoute Enya chaque jour , ça me fait du bien , merci pour cette belle vidéo

    B.... R....

I'm brazilian and my English is fair...so the melody is essencial... It goes direct to my heart and my soul... <3

  40. S.... E....

I prefer the lyrics in Gaeilge than English!

  41. m.... ....

Beautiful video, I love the simplicity and the wind moving the wild grasses and flowers, the black and white works really well for the song too, the cloud patterns.. altogether impressed  ~ and grateful :)
Enya is my favourite music, the flow and the resonance and the beauty and the mostly uplifting or not-comprehensible words! And I love the steadiness of her voice too.
I have a tape in my car of Shepherd Moon and The Celts that comes on when I start the engine and just goes round in a loop! It's nearly worn out now tho - for the second time! Wore out Watermark too. Really enjoying hearing some others of hers tho, must get some more, and taped.
Bless you again for posting this xx

  42. W.... D....

    Musica inspiradora.

  43. F.... A....

Enya sempre me inspira boas coisas!

  44. J.... S....

Ohh the good ol' days when she used to make wonderful music. This is one of her most beautiful works.

  45. A.... ....

I love is music!! Enya forever!!!!!!

  46. L.... d....

    Bonito.

  47. j.... ....

Wonderfully put. It's funny how something that reminds us of something we've lost can be so beautiful, though 'hauntingly beautiful' may be the best description for this song, Enya's finest for me. And thank YOU for the comment :)

  48. b.... ....

Thank you for creating this for one of my favourite songs... the agony of the lyrics burn so true for me today as when I first heard them decades ago... I wish no one else would have to feel this depth of personal loss, but am glad Enya was able to put it to song and lyric in such a gentle and empathetic manner for those of us who do experience such pain. Healing, in its compassionate way

  49. j.... ....

Hi gjozefi, it's in a place called Clatterbridge in the north-west of England on the Lord Leverhulme estates. It's my favourite place to go walking and a natural place to film for an Enya video, I think :)

  50. g.... ....

@jimaginata Where does this video take place might i ask? The landscape is pretty.

  51. j.... ....

Hi Bruna, I don't think it's ever been released on an album, though it has appeared on a few b-sides. It was originally released on the 'How Can I Keep from Singing' CD single. Hope this helps :)

  52. j.... ....

Your welcome shivx01. And thank YOU for your kind comments. Luckily, I live not far from these fields and get to enjoy them often. Hope you have some near you :)

  53. j.... ....

    Hi auw116,
It is beautiful, especially the way Enya sings it. If you learn it, let me know how it goes; it's not meant to be easy :/

  54. a.... ....

@jimaginata i know this is such a beautiful language....i would love to learn it as well :)

  55. L.... ....

@jimaginata Thanks so much! I'm also very grateful that you posted this in the first place. You are so cool for liking this song, I agree that it is exquisitely (spelling?) lol, beautiful. I am going to try to download this one, how would you go about doing this (if you were the one doing it)?? ~Lunar P.S.- I am fairly certain that "'S Fagain mo Bhaile" has not been featured on any other albums.

  56. j.... ....

Hi Lunar, it's off the 'How Can I Keep from Singing' CD single, though it may have appeared on a few other releases since :)

  57. L.... ....

Can anyone tell me where to find this song? Is it a b-side? thanks, Lunar

  58. s.... ....

@robinteddy007 this song is about leaving home and starting on your own, sadness at leaving your family behind, loneliness because you're not with family and friends

  59. J.... ....

looking at the lyrics, i wonder if she indeed was in a kind of depression as one of you suggested. roma ryan never before or after wrote such sad and pessimistic lyrics.

  60. j.... ....

Thanks for your comment lunesoleilastre. It is a little known song but my fave without question. Glad you like the video :)

  61. q.... ....

English made you forget the importance of it. it must not die out...but knowing that the half of the speakers is old...oh hell :/

  62. q.... ....

Because this is the most important. Making the language WORTH to learn and use. For children, for the new generation. and english won't support that...only you could do something. But i know it'd be fukin hard coz you already have a hard life living that way in english, and learning an "other" language would be an other burden on your shoulders. But gaelic is not an "other". It's THE own language of yours, it's just long ago forgotten.

  63. q.... ....

... so i understand that what i've written, isn't as easy as my nationalist way of thinking thought. The language would need strong suppliers. The gov could give more money supply to the families who attend their children to gaelic school or class, to whom who teach them gaelic as mother language. The more you'd be Gaelic, the more supply you'd get from the gov. That would make learning and using the language no joke. And i'd spread the thought that english is not ace, speaking gaelic IS ace :)

  64. q.... ....

But they are very close aren't they? The irish and scottish.
I listened to both language on bbc and yes, the ulster irish is the most beautiful - and that's the closest dialect to scottish.
What i've written below a week ago is true and etc....but if i imagine the case you Scots and the english irish are in... i mean the 90% of the population only knows english...and they'd think you're a "......" if you decide to learn that "weird language from Mars"

  65. j.... ....

I wanna learn it soon too :) Irish Gaelic, that is. Being half Scottish you'd think I'd want to learn Scottish Gaelic but I think Enya has swayed me (particularly this song). Thanks for the comment!

  66. q.... ....

i mean only irish, english must have been a foreigh language for them, not mother language coz they are only irish

  67. q.... ....

most beautiful language...i'd codify that every irish must speak irish or every irish parent and school must teach in irish, not english
that'd be a beautiful act knowing that this awesome and weirdly unique and ancient language would not die out. i hope it won't...i wanna learn it soon :P

  68. J.... I....

En 2:20 suena tan hermosa la voz de Enya que vibro de la emoción...

  69. J.... I....

Muy hermosa cancion, es tan bella que me pone a pensar en tantas cosas tan lindas......... amo a Enya, gracias por hacer este video tan lindo, un fuerte abrazo :)

  70. j.... ....

Thanks for the comment robinteddy007. It is a beautiful song and dark too. I think it's all the more beautiful for it being sung in Gaelic; such a wonderful sounding language. I've no idea why it's not on any album but for that reason maybe it's more like a treasure.

  71. m.... ....

I tried that.. but it only lets me change the volume of the song. I don't use anything fancy but Windows Movie Maker... Thanks though.

  72. j.... ....

Hi musicnarts22, I'm sure with whatever video editing software you are using you should be able to edit out the sound of the wind. The internet should have info if you're stuck. You chose a wonderful song to do your video for, btw.
    Thank's for your comment :)

  73. m.... ....

Her lower register is so pretty :)

  74. m.... ....

I love this :) I did a similar video with the song River and I have a huge hill full of tree's, long grass and flowers so I did captured that on a windy day. Only bummer is you can hear the wind and its loud :(

  75. j.... ....

    Thanks, yAhaveTOhave!
Funnily enough, I've been to two funerals lately and I wondered what I would play at mine. As this is probably the most beautiful song I've ever heard, it would definitely get played.
    Thanks again :)

  76. d.... ....

    You`re Welcome! :)

  77. j.... ....

Thanks daseina. It is a touching song: Enya's best, I think. Glad you like the video too. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

  78. d.... ....

Ohh.., So Touching..! I Didn`t Know, That Enya Has Such A Song!
    I Love It Very Much!
    And Video Too!
    Thank You!
    Dace

  79. j.... ....

All apologies for how pixelated this video is. The original is much better and I've no idea why it ended up so bad. I suppose the high quality one will have to suffice until find out how to do it better.
