Eno, Brian - Golden Hours Lyrics
The passage of time
Is flicking dimly up on the screen
I can't see the lines
I used to think I could read between
Perhaps my brains have turned to sand
Oh me oh my
I think it's been an eternity
You'd be surprised
At my degree of uncertainty
How can moments go so slow
Several times
I've seen the evening slide away
Watching the signs
Taking over from the fading day
Several times
I've seen the evening slide away
Watching the signs
Taking over from the fading day
Changing water into wine
Several times
I've seen the evening slide away
Watching the signs
Taking over from the fading day
Putting the grapes back on the vine
Who would believe what a poor set of eyes can show you
Who would believe what an innocent voice could do
Never a silence always a face at the door
Who would believe what a poor set of ears can tell you
Who would believe what a weak pair of hands can do
Never a silence always a foot in the door

Eno, Brian Golden Hours Comments
Written back when Eno was a singer songwriter and not just a purveyor of computer programmed instrumentals...
You are 13, it's 14:00 on a July afternoon
I feel as if Eno is bringing us on this acclaimed journey here. Imagining "sky saw" looking over the sky, and then looking back down "over Fire Island" where we later see "St Elmos fire" and as we pass, we have to move through the vast landscape of "in the dark trees" fading away, from this back of the island sort of. Then "the big ship" this voyage we've embarked on, acknowledging where we are until we "look into the window" as mentioned in the lyrics of "ill come running", then we witness the short epic of "Another Green World". "Sombre Reptiles" I feel quotes the animals that live in this green world. As followed by "little fishes". We've passed the island now, into "golden hours" it's evening. Time is getting thin. Its almost night. "Becalmed", the wind and the silent echo of your relaxation. "Zawinul/larva" is the dream. Quite, yet fading in are the high pitched sounds of your past. It wakes you up, as the sky and "everything merges with the night". Then you and the "spirits drifting" along the silent wake of the night, and lost to the sound of the music, the music, scared to lose you, but still inspired. Eno is a master of artistry and music. His ambient works don't cease to impress. What a great artist Eno is
How is this from 1975??? Sounds so...modern.
Imagine 2D from Gorillaz singing this song?!!
It reminds me of a Gorillaz song, I love the Gorillaz ❤, I feel like they could do a cover of Golden Hours by Brian Eno.
There is nothing better than sitting outside looking up at the stars and listening to this.
I'm so in love with someone and this song means how much i love her
One of the best tracks ever and that means a lot if I say that.
@lil hastag I am top 20 in the world
'I can't see the lines
I used to think I could read between.'
That lyric is fucking brilliant.
My heart is filled with Pain,,,so much darkness down here...so much pain and suffering...wishing you Light, peace and happiness and Freedom!
Be well.
I came here from this video uploaded by a possible mystery killer...every time I hear it...I pray for this person and most of all his victims.....God help us all....
Upon hearing of a good friend's death, too young, very unexpectedly, this song came to mind.
Who came here from the Deeper Video?
What is that?
@Louis oh, it's a really really scary video...some say it's an alternate reality game...they think a possible serial killer is uploading videos to YouTube, they investigated him,and he said it was just a game or project but due to the unnerving content, many say that hes a killer...he uploaded a vid, with this song playing in the background...
Lisa Collingridge just watched a bunch of them, I forgot the volume was up so high ha :)
@Louis so, were you freaked out?Or were u under the opinion of it's fake?Would really be curious as to your opinion...?
Lisa Collingridge I like them, probably not made by a serial killer ha, definitely very eerie though. I actually think some of my music would work with something like that ha :)
eno/fripp combo always brings out great music...
Underrated
The whole album is suffused with a particularly English melancholy and delicacy, not to mention poignancy, this track especially, which makes it so moving.
This song is so eerie
Experimental products does an amazing cover of this song. If you like this check it out. Probably my favorite cover of all time...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nddm-Lu9gwU just a superficial clip for this wavy song
I have achieved all I needed to achieve when I hear the song
What an incredible track. I love this album - Brian Eno is a gen ius

Looking at my old favorite songs list on the radio list brought me here because I don’t remember listening to this, but it’s there. It’s a banger though.
Another green world? Seems like an alternate earth somewhere in space and time.

Sounds very similar to the Beach Boys' Sloop John B.
I'd listen to this while seeing the world burn right in front of my eyes knowing I cannot do anything about it trying my best to enjoy my last cup of coffee.
Amazing guitar playing love the vibe i get from this song so masterfully epic sounding with great lyrics to
"I think it's been an eternity, you'd be surprised at my degree of uncertainty" awesome
Forse il pezzo più bello di Bryan Eno!!
Thumbs up for all those who found this masterpiece out of sheer luck or through a good friend.
The Banshees' song Into The Light sounds very reminiscent of this. It's obvious what song they were influenced by.
Cale on viola, Fripp on guitar and Eno on all kinds of other stuff including a 'choppy' organ and 'uncertain' piano. How could it be bad?!
This album is on repeat in my head. I can't get it out of my head. Its amazing.
Timeless 😍
Good stuff.
Lmao i found this music on a murder's video
this go hard
do we give a killer forgiveness?
este cd es uno de los mejores que escuche en mi vida
que imaginacion que tenia eno este tema es una bestialidad . que mente
Brian Emo
Experimental Products cover is also good if different.
Where are you Deeper?
colorado
that guitar solo . can only be performed by either Vini Reilly or Syd Barrett ….no one else please.....thank you
But but but Robert Fripp!
Creeper got me here...and here is where i stay.
who came here for deeper?
Me 😂😂😂
I did as always
ENO is as big a hero of mine as Bowie and Ferry! Love them all.
did any of the above mention ever worked on music together
@Artifacts187 Brian Eno and Brian Ferry where together in the band Roxy Music.
Artifacts187 bowie and eno worked together on the berlin trilogy (low, heroes, lodger) and 1. outside. brian eno and bryan ferry were also in a band together called roxy music, brian eno left roxy music in 1973.
@kai4me what that hell......hell yeah ....damn
The channel "deeper" brought me here :)
Fuck yeah
Anyone else come here from the serial killer with great taste in music?
he just knows that music …...inspires the mind
Deeper anyone ?
@Artifacts187 Is that the new generation's MarbleHornets?
I love Brian Eno, I discovered him after a group of people started singing one of his songs to me; In a dream many years ago, strange overtones it's called.
I followed Deeper to this track; it was instant love.
Yuhp, this is a good song too so that's pretty dope
@thelyonbros Deeper is a creepy channel that may or may not be a killer...there is speculation that he is...investigating turned up nothing...but I often wonder...what if?And he has new channel called mydarkjournal...its a very scary series...it will make you wonder...

In the 80's, I thought the lyrics were clever. Now, their truth makes me cry.
they are so nostalgic
I have arrived at this place.
is this the same brian eno who made the windows start up sound?
Jack Ass yes, there's only ONE brian eno, brother!
It sounds like Goodbye Horses.. (?
I need to check on that rift
Oh me oh my.

Love that song, especially that bouzouki vibe that sticks to guitar sample.
Thanks for the upload.

A true Masterpiece
Sometimes... just sometimes..life throws a gem.. This is one for me. Thanks guys. :)
I just heard it a few days back...and it stands as one classic MF
Eno is no random accident. He is a full-on conspiracy of amazing music. Give a listen to his old album Before and After Science if you like this. It was probably his last vocal/word album before he went rather completely ambient and became a big-shot music producer of other bands.
@Gaia So BAAS was indeed Eno's last vocal/rock oriented album he produced before going AMBIENT. It did set the stage for the future....even though it featured a couple full-on rockers. But it also offered some wonderful, peaceful and serene soundscapes that could only come from the mind of the musical genius, Brian Eno.
Je me souviens de toi
I think I'm in love with the cover art.
A painting by Tom Phillips
Jerry The Obnoxious Mouse. Seriously, Screw Jerry. Me too, Jerry. Since i was ... let me see ... holy Jesus!!! Since the blessed day i bought the album and took it home, just like a professional thief who's running back to his hideplace carrying a sports bag filled with diamonds ...!!! (That was back in 1976, or 1977 ... ??
So i was 18 years old ...
That day surely was a turning point in my life - only God knows i'm telling the truth here, boys!
After Raphael, i think it's the title.
its not sbritss library or whatever, it's Eno's passage of time, by the way
My heart feels full.
heavenly
why is the cello mixed so low? that's the only part I don't like about this track.
so beautiful.
Syd Barrett? BLIMEY!!!
he does sound a bit like Syd on his lyrical style ...both genius
Syd's "Wolfpack" sounds a lot like Eno too.
Of my top ten favorite albums, this is one of them. Just so richly textured and melodically pleasing.
I wish brian eno made more music that sounded like this album I like his long ambient songs but I LOVE THIS ALBUM
its that rare bohemian style that the 80's needed instead of all that POP shit
Jh, check out Wrong Way Up, with John Cale, and Everything That Happens Will Happen Today, with David Byrne.
So beautiful
is this song about waterworks?
Sublime
сильная вещь!
Meanwhile my eighth grade year brought me here.
I used to listen to this song in 8th grade and I was born in 93'!
you were hip then...congrats...Lad
Doug Nelson, a cook at Chi Chi's Mexican Restaurante in Madison Wisconsin........in 1986 turned me on to ENO after work one night. My life has never been the same. Thank you Doug!
pretty sure gwewn stafani riped this off hard with "running"
yes! Big time. Thank you I was searching for that track
probably...fucken ..no doubt about it …..
such a pretty song
I know right
such a pretty song
This feels like it should be in a BoJack horseman episode, it would fit nicely
or the Documentary on the Life and Times of Syd Barrett after the Floyd......
more crap.
Eno begat Depeche Mode and Blancmange.
Eno & Fripp. Always a great combo.
+Cryptonymus don't forget phil collins played on this as well!
+Joe Smith -Aye!
Plus John Cale on viola!
makes me wanna cry
emily matthews me too, you're not alone!!
great momentos of music
The future past.
Absolutely!
that's like now but later
70's? it sounds timeless as fuck
+Brazilian MarshalL the 70's the PERFECT time for experience in art, when commercial and creativity lived side by side with no problems. even with cinema,. the so-called art-house cinema were the best of all times - Images - altman, taxi driver -scorcese, the godfather - coppola, apocalipse now - coppolla, etc etc
That's Eno for ya!
Brazilian MarshalL i think it 82 or 84

in heavy agreement with you there. The 1970s were an explosion of creativity in so many levels. Sad to say where we have ended up, when commercial interests always outweigh creative ones.
me and earl and the dying girl
Terrible movie, great soundtrack
+Will Hagan Why do you think it's a bad movie?
I think that it was a great movie, just brilliant.
Yeah, that's what bought me here.
this song is the literal definition of nostalgia for me
right....especially on his mind becoming sand......
So wonderful to hear this song again! I have the LP, "Another Green World", in which this song was my favorite. I used to listen to this cut twice, so of course, I listened to it twice here! AND I used my headphones to get the same sound as my stereo. Thanks so much for this upload...
I have it on my MP3 player and I play it in 2018 in the streets of Dallas and they sit in AWE of who tha fuck is this MF wierdo…..I just press the gas...on my vehicle never to be like them
@Artifacts187 Fuck those non-Eno knowing types. Put on "Baby's On Fire"....full blast on the headphones....and navigate across the sidewalk. Then, play, "Blank Frank".....at full volume. But to bring you back to earth.......play "Taking Tiger Mountain(by Strategy)".......or......."On Some Faraway Beach".......but Eno has SO MANY MORE KILLER tunes, to get you through all the phases of your day.....and LIFE. Edit: Or IN YOUR CAR.....CRANK ENO.......I sure as hell do!!!
Perhaps my brain is old and scrambled
+Bob Field brains are*
#artiifax
I constantly ingest and digest my brains
thats mucus...the brain sweats....

_Who would believe what a weak pair of hands can do._
The best verse, in my opinion.
I have been looking for this song for ages. Heard it one time in the 70s on the John Peel radio show and it always stood out. I knew it was Eno and I loved the guitar solo and vaguely remembered that was Fripp. I just went through dozens of hours of Fripp and Eno material and finally found it. Some interesting stuff but not always my cup of tea. But I love this.
@Drew Robb if it taschtook that long you should cereuslie start with enos fav film maker ^^
@Drew Robb It's on the album "Another Green World". You should be able to get it on CD too.
Dude ..you think that's bad ...I had a song from 1988 and only heard it once from a group called FELT - titled "Fortune" ...and until 2000 I finally was able to get my hands on the original.....
Great Album!
i belive in you
