Eno, Brian - Backwater Lyrics
Backwater
We're sailing at the edges of time
Backwater
We're drifting at the waterline
Oh, we're floating in the coastal waters
Ooh what to do, not a sausage to do
And the shorter of the porter's daughters
Dips her hand in the deadly waters
Ooh what to do, in a tiny canoe
Black water
There were six of us but now we are five
We're all talking
To keep the conversation alive
There was a senator from Ecuador
That crashed on a hill in the south of Peru
And was found by a conquistador
Who took it to the Emperor
And he passed it on to a Turkish guru
His daughter
Was slated for becoming divine
He taught her
He taught her how to split and define
But if you study the logistics
And heuristics of the mystics
You will find that their minds rarely move in a line
So it's much more realistic
To abandon such ballistics
And resign to be trapped on a leaf in the vine

Eno, Brian Backwater Comments
Hello good nights
w o n d e r f u l
Mom placed a CD-R of this album in my "high school memories" box
its up there with Floyd at pom-pay-oh.
This sound can build a fire, trust me, I know what I saw,,,,This starts hot and stays in the air
I was high when I first heard this , well , I was naïve, I started the smoke, and,,,,, you will find that minds move in a line.
The legendary jaki liebezeit absolutely holding it down with that hihat pattern
Is that who plays hi hat? Did he play any other drums? He only had an hour to spare then! Real hand claps are always appreciated in pop music too, maybe those are his!!
This track has brilliant lyrics, fantastic music and a superb production...always liked this track it appeals to my sense of the absurd, it's timeless
Holy crap I'd forgotten how much I love this song, how Eno reprises that gorgeous VCS3 fuzz bass from Virginia Plain at the end.
@ 2:42 The most famous 3 note solo of all time is back in use. Tell Bryan Ferry and his Virgina Plain to fuck off; "I'm taking my 3 notes and goin' solo!".

What a song .. those lyrics .. Priceless ❤️
My favorite album to read with
XTC clearly had a hard on for Eno
XTC is one of the greatest bands of all time
We are drifting at the waterline...
Before and After Science is such a great album.
very avant-garde.
I have it on 8-track!
Too Right. Influenced alot of groups i feel.
Bryan Ferry should have covered this one!
EnosEverything Brian Eno is more of a genius and Bryan Ferry although is an astounding songwriter does not have the techinical prowess of Eno in way shape or form!
@EnosEverything yeah, who would want to listen to such a shitty band that wrote lots of boring and unoriginal songs like: Out Of The Blue, Both Ends Burning, Mother Of Pearl, Love Is The Drug, Virginia Plain, In Every Dreamhome A Heartache, All I Want Is You, Pyjamarama, Prairie Rose, More Than This, Remake Remodel, Do The Strand, The Thrill Of It All, The Bogus Man, etc. etc. ,so on and so forth, and thusly such, and what not, and whatever the fucking bullshit know-not-at-alls spout out their unregulated blow holes. Because they assume everybody must be as simple minded as they don't even know they actually are, right ? Yeah, I thought so. Carry on genius. Don't let reality get in the way of a good delusion.
Oh Linda , you really didn't need to list the entire Roxy Music catalogue but never mind you are a tad upset and I sympathise - I love all those songs you listed also - you forgot Do The Strand and Song For Europe by the way - two old classics those two -- I love Roxy Music - saw them here in Brisbane from a third row seat in 1975 - I own all their albums and still have the first five albums and the Roxy Live album on vinyl... I was simply trying to point out that B.Ferry was letting things slide when he comes out with recordings of Smoke Gets In Your Eyes and Walk A Mile In My Shoes.... Rod Stewart was terrific when he was with The Faces and his first four or five solo albums were pretty decent too - but look at the fucker now - he puts out the similar sort of male shite equivalent of Susan Boyle ... Bryan Ferry had a great deal of talent and wasted it with all the farting about doing old torch songs and fifties rockers when he could quite easily have come up with something as exciting as what Brian Eno was doing and continues to do... Sorry I got your nose ( E.Nose !!! ) out of joint.
Hahaha .. Terrific Banter

I would love to hang out with you guys .. All of us together .. Killer ..
@EnosEverything Honestly, Eno outgrew Roxy, he wasn't going to be a band member for anything, even Roxy.
This is _not_ the Meat Puppets
Not Pat Boone either.
