Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Lucky Man Lyrics

He had white horses
And ladies by the score
All dressed in satin
And waiting by the door

Ooooh, what a lucky man he was
Ooooh, what a lucky man he was

White lace and feathers
They made up his bed
A gold covered mattress
On which he was led

Ooooh, what a lucky man he was
Ooooh, what a lucky man he was

He went to fight wars
For his country and his king
Of his honor and his glory
The people would sing

Ooooh, what a lucky man he was
Ooooh, what a lucky man he was

A bullet had found him
His blood ran as he cried
No money could save him
So he laid down and he died

Ooooh, what a lucky man he was
Ooooh, what a lucky man he was

Emerson, Lake & Palmer Lucky Man Comments
  1. D.... J....

When I was only 16, I felt like the luckiest kid in town! Great girlfriend, great car!(69 Camaro), great full-time job, in highschool yet, great parents, my gals parents adored me. Yeah, I really felt lucky. All throughout my life, whenever I found myself faced with tough situations, I always thought of the poor kid that used to live right down the street from me. Born without legs and arms. Wheelchair bound for life. He needed 2, round the clock nurses to tend to him. But faced with that, he was always smiling! I asked him one day, how come? How can you smile all the time, faced with what your dealing with? His answer was,"I've resolved myself to the fact that this is what it is, and I nor anyone else can ever change that". Wow! Strong convictions! So, whenever I feel down, I always think of that kid, in that wheelchair, and how lucky I am! My troubles are few, compared to his. And my life always will be great, no matter what.

    Great video

  13. p.... ....

Not bad songwriting for a 12 year old. All ELP fans know this, but the moog solo at the end was a first take improvisation that left the band and engineer Eddie Offord speechless, note how the bass and drums fall away. The technology had landed! My favourite ELP album

  14. M.... ....

Who's listening to this song in 2020? Yeah, me neither, but soon, very soon ...

lack of musical culture sent me here: i didn't know the song nor the band: it's wonderful work

    b.... p....

In which case you need to explore Keith Emerson's previous band The Nice. You will find extraordinary musical delights there. The Nice introduced me to jazz and classical music that I would never have heard at home

  25. D.... H....

Thank you sir. I was looking for this song all day. I heard it today while I was on US-97 in Washington State. Thank you once again...

  32. J.... D....

Always found this a bit confusing as he sounds like a Knight but he gets shot. Always thought the word should have been an arrow had found him. I guess there were bullets at a certain point but seems incongruous

  33. J.... T....

    A masterpiece of a song.

I had the pleasure of seeing ELP twice in concert at Madison Square Garden around 77/78, once with full orchestra which was very cool. ELP as one of my favorite groups at the time. ELP concerts were the best I went to with the possible exception of Yes with Rick Wakeman around the same time. That show was one for the ages. Oh the good old high school days. Think I will look up some old Yes songs now.

  37. H.... R....

Greg Lake wrote this song when he was about 12 years old. Never throw away your songs 👍👍

  38. B.... H....

I loved this song. I was a teenager in the early 70's. I was into drugs, 13 times with LSD. The time I listened to them when I was "high" I would hear at the end the "Woo-Woo-Woo" . It was really cool. That was in the 70's.

  65. D.... T....

I was at U Lancs in Bailrigg when this was released. The sound, the voices, the instrumentation, the mood all made sense chilling in that Midlands city. I was the Lucky Man. And I feel super grateful.

  66. P.... W....

ELP ...I was so lucky to be in college during the early 70's.
I loved their music, still do .
I have all of their albums .
Lucky Man was my favorite song.
    My motto back then was
"A friend with weed is a friend indeed " .

I've loved this song forever! My mom used to tell me of various artists she'd listen to while pregnant with me and when I was little. This song happens to always stand out, though my mama passed when she was 52...I can't ask her about certain songs. This song is heartfelt, beautiful & soul touching to me.

  75. r.... c....

I grew up at a time in which great rock music was accepted as being the norm. I thought it would go on forever. I was wrong but I appreciate the fact that I grew up at that time.

  76. J.... G....

Makes me think of the painting the death of General Wolf

  77. L.... C....

I get so depressed when I hear this amazing music today, I miss so much my generation and the magic times when genuine talent lived among us and poured the concert halls with impossible compositions. Their music will live forever, but their creators are leaving us one by one. RIP Greg and Keith, thank you so much for your music. Wait for Karl, soon you will be jamming again.

To my generation, if you are like me, you probably can’t stand the Radio these days. We are devolving, in reverse mode musically speaking; there is no way we went from ELP, YES, Pink Floyd and King Crimson to RAP and Justin Bieber. What the hell happened!?

    F.... S....

@Katta Lady -- What irony. New Mexico was where I lived when Lucky Man was released. As the manager of a college radio station, I enjoyed a privilege not enjoyed by everyone-- I would play Lucky Man at least twice. My air shifts were only 2-hours long!

    F.... S....

@John Pastirchak wow! And we ended up here listening to ELP lol.
