Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Knife-Edge Lyrics

Just a step cried the sad man
Take a look down at the madman
Theatre kings on silver wings
Fly beyond reason
From the flight of the seagull
Come the spread claws of the eagle
Only fear breaks the silence
As we all kneel pray for guidance

Tread the road cross the abyss
Take a look down at the madness
On the streets of the city
Only spectres still have pity
Patient queues for the gallows
Sing the praises of the hallowed
Our machines feed the furnace
If they take us they will burn us

Will you still know who you are
When you come to who you are

When the flames have their season
Will you hold to your reason
Loaded down with your talents
Can you still keep your balance
Can you live on a knife-edge

This is hard to watch, most camera shots are short half second long clips back and forth between the 3 of them. Annoying.

    3 legends

  16. S.... C....

Now, I'm 100% straight, but I never realized how physically beautiful this band was. It almost defies prog rock doctrine lol.

  17. J.... M....

  18. g.... ....

Stood the test of time. Electrifying!

  19. G.... P....

the way Carl's drumming picks up when Keith starts his solo is just awesome- explosive, relentless, and intense.

  23. H.... F....

The end of Knife Edge sounds like everything that Deep Purple was doing but ELP did it better.
See ya in Heaven, Keith and Greg. And thank you so much.

There's only one thing I want more than the threads Emerson's wearing. The right situation to rock em like a space man.

  25. A.... R....

Emerson, Lake & Palmer > The Beatles.

  26. C.... ....

Haha....when Emerson breaks out the little sheet music for the baroque organ solo section....haha.

  27. K.... R....

    Fantastic!. The ending tho...tremendous

  28. D.... S....

Here I am at 69 years old. I must have listened to this a million times and I still love it. And was Emerson really playing from that little scrap of paper?

  29. m.... f....

    Holy 💩

  30. P.... ....

Funny that he has to have the Bach passage sheet music to play from.

  33. S.... N....

I witnessed Emerson, Lake and Palmer 7 times, I Loved their extremism, but I adored their musicianship more. I am now 67 years old and I still play drums to the same standard as Carl.

cos there isn't a lead guitar

  36. G.... M....

He was the biggest band on earth ... best drummer, best keyboardist (the keyboard Hendrix) and an excellent singer and bassist. Unfortunately, excess virtuosity bothers mediocre ones ... and he didn't have the recognition they would deserve in time. ... for something projected something with Jimi Hendrix ... that could not be for the death of this ... his music is perfect and timeless ... here in Argentina .. at the end of the world ... my adolescence was marked by their music ... like Yes, King Crimson and many British bands that were neither replaced nor improved ever!

  37. M.... M....

    Should have 10million views !

  38. J.... D....

    When music still had balls.

  39. R.... F....

Had the great privilege of seeing these extroidinary musicians several times in concert.

  46. B.... C....

The best trio ever - they are brilliant masters of their instruments, the harmony between them is (always) phenomenal, not speaking of the fascinating tunes.

  47. M.... B....

The greatest 3 piece band of all time

  48. L.... ....

This song is so amazing.....they have actual talent and skill....something that today is more or less lost. That base line rocks.

  59. M.... H....

I love the simplesizer from the keyboard in this song

  60. R.... L....

Saw them in 71 or 72 in Houston in a fairly small venue on the U of H campus. Center stage maybe 10th row or thereabouts. Close your eyes and you might think there’s 6 guys on stage not 3.

  61. A.... W....

best version, lovethe work of Greg and Carl

  62. S.... T....

  65. S.... E....

Back to being 15 again ! Only 47 years ago....sure l m biased....these were times when special musicians were Masters , ushering an enlightenment.....then the dark forces rallied , and gave us madonna beyonce etc etc and other such demons...

  66. T.... ....

AWESOME audio - AWESOME Video! Thank you. I saw them at Philly Spectrum 1970s - 3 X - They were fantastic!

  67. D.... W....

Great stuff. Whatever happened to this kind of work?

  68. S.... J....

    ELP АХУЕННЫ

  69. G.... F....

People edited video like fucking retards back in the 70's

  70. R.... F....

That was amazing! They seem to have sliced up every note in their song literally in every possible direction possible in a 3 an 4 dimensional tone to achieve that finish move of playing the song on the organ in reverse, full circle. I am convinced ELP were melodicnauts!!!

  71. l.... l....

Вау!!! Круто! Как всегда на высшем уровне. Достойный музон.

  72. B.... K....

Emerson was a wizard and a mad scientist. I got to see ELP in maybe 1976 or 1977. One of the best concerts I ever saw, and I saw bunches back then.

  73. C.... ....

    E.L.P. at it's best !
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.

  74. A.... S....

But there is an american equivalent of theme 30 seconds to mars and are alternative rock band and they are americans

  75. A.... S....

There is in the 3rd universe they are called the Dazzlings and are equestrian progresive rock band since progresive rock is no more popular like was in the 70s and 80s and 90s.

  76. K.... H....

    This one goes to eleven.

  77. F.... P....

I don't know if there's another group like ELP today

  78. A.... D....

For sale: Hammond Organ, lightly stabbed.

  79. M.... T....

Just a tremendous song.....Mike Hoffman just below...is spot on! Are you kidding me! ELP is not in the Hall of Fame? That facility in Cleveland should be called The Hall of Shame!

  80. G.... P....

pressing F for Greg and Keith

Ruhe in Frieden Keith emmerson 🦌🌹🌹🌹🌹🌻

  82. J.... H....

  83. T.... K....

No words suffice. They were men possessed.

  86. V.... D....

No words!! Just so beyond amazing!♥️♥️♥️

  87. t.... ....

4:!3 - playing the Moog Modular's ribbon controller like an electric guitar. This performance must be from early 1971.

  88. G.... S....

    Grande pezzo rip Emerson lake

  89. D.... V....

Love this HEAVY version! ELP kickin ass!

  90. m.... a....

Quick thumbs-down for that shitty video editing. Unwatchable.

  91. B.... S....

Great trio, and Greg was a great singer. Maybe the most successful band in rock music, that did not feature a great guitar player. Greg played some acoustic guitar on some music, but make no mistake, the lead instruments in that band were Keith.

  92. C.... O....

    THE BEST BAND - EVER!

  93. T.... P....

Still nothing comes even close to this god trio.

  94. T.... P....

    Gods of prog!

  95. G.... M....

Knife Edge - more relevant now than when it was written.

  96. C.... ....

    Genial :) 6:39

  97. B.... K....

    Ending gave goosebumps.....
