I wish someone sang to me when I was a kid, these songs are beautiful and it’s too bad I’m already 13. I hate these modern songs with no emotion or beauty everything nowadays are songs glorifying physical love and money not true love from the heart like this and the modern fashion is even worse, just scraps of cloth with a logo and no real detail and emotion put into it but people my age still find these things more attractive than true art like this. To echo a comment further down, this magnificent melody is not actually a singer-friendly tune. The phrasing is "instrumental", not "vocal". Which is why Fitzgerald's success in conquering it, and making it a real "song" and all her own, is just superb.

It's the kind of thing that can be done only with a blend of supreme self-assurance and technical mastery.

Yes, a perfect match I must say.  I enjoy Ella to the accompaniment of Nelson Riddle as well. If you haven't heard An Early Autumn with Fitzgerald/Riddle 1964 version, I highly recommend it.

I'm glad I'm just old enough to have heard my parents listening to this kind of music.  I can appreciate it now in a way I couldn't at the time. It's debatable whether the top female performers today equal Ella's talent.  But most completely lack class and their fan base have no idea that a woman should be able to sing without rubbing her crotch.
