Electric Light Orchestra - The Diary Of Horace Wimp Lyrics
Monday: Late again, today, he'd be in trouble though
He'd say he was sorry, he'd have to hurry out the bus
Tuesday: Horace was so sad, he'd never had a girl that he
could care for, and if he was late once more, he'd be out
[Chorus:]
Don't be afraid, just knock on the door
Well he just stood there mumblin' and fumblin'
Then a voice from above said
"Horace Wimp, this is your life
Go out and find yourself a wife
Make a stand and be a man
And you will have a great life plan"
Wednesday: Horace met a girl, she was small
Thursday: Asks her for a date, the cafe down the street
tomorrow evening, his head was reeling
When she said "Yes O.K."
[Repeat Chorus]
Friday: Horace, this is it, he asks the girl if maybe
They could marry, when she says "gladly"
Horace cries
Sunday: Everybody's at the church, when Horace rushes in
And says "Now here come my wife
For the rest of my life"
And she did
Don't be afraid, just knock on the door
Well he just stood there mumblin' and fumblin'
Then a voice from above said
"Horace Wimp, this is your wife
Go out and find yourself a life
Make a stand and be a man
And you will have a great life plan"
Horace, Horace, Horace, Horace, Horace, Horace,
Horace, Horace, Horace, Horace, Horace, Horace

Electric Light Orchestra The Diary Of Horace Wimp Comments
The only song to forget the existence of Saturday.
Synthesizer sounds like a dream
Wczesne lata świetna muzyka
After the first cut, Christopher Walken came out of the control room and said, "Can we have more 'bow wows'?"
This song reminds me of Wonderful Christmastime.
This needs to be in a damn good movie.
Bet the little prick regrets it now haha .Marry in haste Repent at leisure
My peeper tickles when I hear this song
love love love this song
This song reminds me of John Locke from LOST
First verse - Paul McCartney
Verse two - The Kinks
All verses and choruses - ELO, fabulous, wonderful ELO
Wish me luck!
Saturday: Horace and his new girlfriend did some unthinkable things
Yours may be my favorite of all the comments/replies of this video.
A lasting inspiration to all us wimps! 😵
03:10 the last time through they change it and sing " Horace wimp is this your WIFE go out and find yourself a LIFE" ..Mon Tues Weds...etc..Horace got trapped
The way that they flipped around wife and life at the end was genius . Instead of saying this is your life go on out and get a wife, if said this is your wife, go on out and get a life.
Horace Horace Horace Horace Horace Horace Horace Horace Horace Horace Horace Horace Horace Horace Horace Horace Horace Horace
One of the most incredibly Beatles-ish of their songs
Now I am convinced Jeff Lynne is a genius. I love how in the first chorus he sings "Horace Wimp, this is your life. Go out and find yourself a wife." and then in the last chorus he sings "Horace Wimp, this is your wife. Go out and find yourself a life." Genius.
Oh my god, i JUST GOT THAT.
I think the chorus is sing by Kelly Groucutt
good luck horace i love you
This is hilarious
SI QUE CONSIGIO ESPOSA MUY RAPIDO
the Monty Python like sarcasm of the early work of Jeff Lynne turned later intothis commercialism, but it his businessI really don´t know if he really noticed thatthis is not a bad track but it is nothing compared to his earlier work
Probably the best use of a vocoder ever committed to tape
This was playing back in 1979 whilst I proposed to the most fantastic woman in the world, we married, had two fabulous boys, then I screwed up and lost the most precious thing in my life and my best friend, wish I could turn the clocks back, I’d never screw it up. I still love her with all my heart would do anything to get her back. The song makes me cry every time I hear it.
2:25 it says "Sunday" right before saying "Sunday" again :O There's no Friday!!!!
*saturday intensifies*
Its 2:47 so basically the morning and this is what I spend my time doing going back to some good old fashioned ELO and just enjoying my favorite album
Definitely a hint of the beatles in this great song
Great song go out and find yourself a wife
OH my god i just re-discovered this song after many many years and i am sooo glad.
love it.. "be careful what you wish for Horace" !!
“Don’t be afraid, just knock on the door.”
1:56 中野だあ~🎵
the inspirational anthem for nerds everywhere.
Aladdin was oriental
I thought he was Arab.
Saturday?
Saturday is for football.
The irony at the end is great
Wot no Saturday
Evreyday is two syllables except for Saturday
Toinko, At last, someone who gets it.
It’s very definite but it’s good I would by it,
tfw I'm Horace minus having a gf/wife
Love this song - Jeff and ELO played at Wembley. Awesome!
Horace was so terrible at love that a higher power had to intervene
Noice joke mate
Pretty freaking funny that joke was
poor guy
I’m so terrible ELO had to Intervene
Same story, pal.
Out of the whole ELO catalogue this is one I always felt deserved a music video.
It has one
They messed up the lyrics at 2:13. It should go:
We can try to understand
The New York Times' effect on man
Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Come on Horace, you can do it! Don’t be afraid, just knock on the door...
25 years ago, I knocked on the door of the sweetest and most beautiful woman I had ever met and we are still married with 5 sons... :)

Epic songwriting!
Such excellent music ! Grew up with this ... Shame it's all cr*p in the 'charts' nowadays !
Next 1000 Jeahrs will be ElO !
Listening to this with the aid of Budweiser just before New year's Eve.......next Korn ....coming undone.
I like to imagine that ELO followed Horace around narrating his life like Love Handel in that Phineas and Ferb episode
They were the voice from above
**NOW YOU SEE HOW WHAT A GRAND RIPPOFF THE MAKERS OF FORREST GUMP...RIPPOFFED THE IDEA AND STORY FROM HORACE WIMP.....THE NAMES EVEN SOUND THE SAME.....WHAT A SCANDAL....,,AND THIS GREAT SONG CAME OUT LATE 70S.......FORREST GUMP CAME OUT IN 1995....ELO SHOULD SUE THE MAKERS AND AUTHOR OF FORREST GUMP
this is my favorite from this album. Like reading story but in song form. There are not many songs which has crhonological lyrics and meaning
no saturday
It's 2017 and I'm only 13 and i love elo and the first song I show my kids will be from this band
Oh, the memories.
What happens on Saturday? 🤔
Football match.
Jehovah's witness
"Don't be afraid..."; after that line I always find it haunting.
Monday: Late again, today, he'd be in trouble though He'd say he was sorry, he'd have to hurry out to the bus Tuesday: Horace was so sad, he'd never had a girl that he could care for, and if he was late once more, he'd be out [Chorus:] Don't be afraid, just knock on the door Well he just stood there mumblin' and fumblin' Then a voice from above said "Horace Wimp, this is your life Go out and find yourself a wife Make a stand and be a man And you will have a great life plan" Wednesday: Horace met a girl, she was small And she was very pretty, he thought he was in love, he was afraid Thursday: Asks her for a date, the cafe down the street tomorrow evening, his head was reeling When she said "Yes O.K." Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday. (Horace Wimp, Horace Wimp, Horace Wimp, Horace Wimp)
The day Saturday is omitted – this is because, as explained by Jeff Lynne: "The football match is played on a Saturday".
If only it were that easy xD
Hopefully my darling Crea, you found this... Illuminating... In your choice for your D.N.A. supplier, for you are my destiny! <-('')-> <3
DISLIKERS! I is this Your life? Go out and find,
yourself some taste!
👍👍
Nissan Figaro, good boy.
I think half of the dislikes on most videos are accidental. I've accidentally hit the dislike button before when scrolling on my phone or something like that.
This sounds very Beatle-esque. :-)
Part II of Mr. Blue Sky, also Beatlesque!
Reminds me of buying my very first brand new car!! Really enjoyed the 80s - a great time to be in your early 30s I can tell 😎🙊🙈🙉👌👆👣👅
I hear alot of Beatles influence in this song, especially, but really all of ELO's music. Jeff has even said that being compared to the Beatles is the highest form of flattery. To me, ELO picked up where the Beatles left off. Both amazing artists way ahead of their time!
Elaine R John Lennon made the same observation!
I agree. Very Beatles-esque. The voice that says the days of the week sounds like a tribute to John Lennon. This is ELO’s “A Day in the Life”.
Wow! Horace had a busy week
: Electric Light Orchestra
Album: Discovery
Data di uscita: 1979
This probably my favourite ELO song other than don't bring me down
What a cute song, "HORACE"
This song has became my lucky charm after aiding me in passing my theory and practical driving test as I would listen to it just before I took them. Think the motive of 'grabbing life by the balls' helped me realise how relevant it is for life
Monday:Late again, today,
He'd be in trouble though
He'd say he was sorry,
He'd have too hurry out to the bus.
Tuesday: Horace was so sad,
He'd never had a girl that he could care for,
And if he was late once more, he'd be out. oh-uh!
Don't be afraid, just knock on the door,
Well he just stood there
Mumbling and fumbling,
Then a voice from above said-
"Horace Wimp, this is your life,
Go out and find yourself a wife,
Make a stand and be a man,
And you will have a great plan."
Wednesday: Horace met a girl,
She was small and she was very pretty,
He thought he was in love,
He was afraid. oh-uh!
Thursday: Asks for a date,
The cafe down the street tomorrow evening,
His head was reeling,
When she said "Yes, O.K."
Don't be afraid just knock on the door,

Mumbling and fumbling,

Make a stand and be a man,
And you will have a great life plan."
Friday: Horace, this is it,
He asks he girl if maybe they could marry,
When she says "Gladly."
Horace cries. uh-fh!
Sunday: Everybody's at the church,
When Horace rushes in and says,
"Now here comes my wife, for the rest of my life."
And she did.
Don't be afraid, just knock on the door,

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday,
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday,
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday,
(on and on)
Horace...Horace...Horace...Horace...Horace......................
Can't believe nobody has told you this over the years, but in the last round of the chorus the voice from above is his wife telling him to find a life.
I`m so incredibly proud. My youngest son (he`s 22) told me today he really loves ELO.
I`ve been a fan of ELO since I was 12 when I bought my very first record which was Livin` Thing.
I can remember like it was yesterday my 16th Birthday when my parents bought me 'Discovery' album by ELO. I played it so many times that by the time Christmas came around 6 months later, I bought the album again because I wore the other one out.
The first ELO album I owned was FACE THE MUSIC. I won it in a radio contest.
My parents got me the live "Wembley or bust" record for my birthday this year, plus tickets to one of their concerts for next year. Proud to be an ELO fan
I just turned 20 and it's pretty funny thinking about this. I can remember my mom playing ELO, CCR, The Doobies, Floyd, Doors and all(except the Dead she hates them) and I can specifically remember always asking her to change her "old people music." Fast forward about 14 years and this stuff is all I listen to XD Funny what some aging and perspective will do to you.
@justin barron Good taste Justin 😊
most underrated song ever?
AKA most ELO songs
very pretty. . uh oh... yes ok... this song rules!! ELO RULES
I feel like this song is about Billy Pilgrim's love life in Slaughterhouse-Five!
What the robotic voice in the background is saying reminds me of Underneath the Arches.
They skipped Saturday because Horace didn't do anything that day but prepare for the wedding
Trueblade1423 He was at home watching the football match
havin a wank
Jeff Lyne supposedly said in an interview nothing happened on Saturday because everyone is either at home or at the pub watching the football game
Saturday was his bucks night … he got bladdered, snorted cocaine and shagged twenty call girls (some of whom were small and verrrrry pretty, some big and ugly) …. it's in the missing / rarely heard fourth verse
That was an eventful week for Horace
did not know that - cool - great song. Discovery got me into ELO. Still have the original LP from 1979.
Horace doesn't live in a universe that has Saturdays either apparently
@Benji As far as I know, Saturday isn't mentioned because he plays football on Saturdays.
Cracking song
Wrong song, go back to elo
this song cracks me up good tune too
I read that saturday isn't in the song because it's the football day
"don't be afraid just knock on the door" ........brilliant :-)
too bad he stood there just mumbling and bumbling.
About a man obsessed with having a wife.... and then him actually having a ilfe...
Beatlelo...imagine this sung by the fab4...
RHMAK♥ The vocal kind of resembles McCartney.. Even makes it easier to imagine....
What happens on Saturday?
FOOTBALL :D
of course
the great unanswered question.
Wedding preparation and watching football obviously
Wed prep
I love these songs from ELO Horace Wimp especially, I mean some teens are listning to that Headbanger or metal and Bass drop, id just rather listen to some ELO or Queen. I love this song!!!
You're aware that Queen also made metal, right?
You're aware that Queen also made metal, right?
Fab ELO ;)
Fab seven :D
ELO.......brilliantstill listening
Perfection
late again!
The fact that the they are so underrated only makes their music better. And this song is, in its own way, as profound as "Hey Jude."
Juan Flores I guess but I discovered them after guardians and I don’t think I’m the only one
@Jim & Hugh O'N no one cares
Degree7 I’m just saying there is a chance people would listen to mr blue sky and look for more
It's a cute song, but let's not get crazy.
First time I'm hearing this song. It has a Paul McCartney sound to it.
Cool songs
this is pointless but i still wonder
in the first time the chorus is played "be a man" and "great life plan" are sang in the same note as the rest of the part
then Horace takes the girl on a date, taking courage to knock on the door
the second time its played "be a man" gets sung higher
then Horace marries and spends the rest of his life with the girl, having a great life
the third time its played both "be a man" and " great life plan" get sung higher
do the rises in pitch in chorus have to do with the story that is taking place in the verse?
Probably. But when they divorce 'he thought he was in love' the 'be a man' would be song lower (if there was more the song)😂
Probably. But when they divorce 'he thought he was in love' the 'be a man' would be song lower (if there was more the song)😂
@AFMakers They never divorce, at the (last?) verse, when they get married, it states that she stayed with him for the rest of her life
Oh my bad xD
"Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday".
He must be a 7th day Adventist....or a Jew.
where's saturday?
Jeff Lynne said its a tradition for football to play at Saturday so nothing gets done plus its three syllables unlike all the other days
Beatles and Nerd influenced
It takes place in a universe where there are only days with names that have two syllables
This is such an inspiring track
