Electric Light Orchestra - Rockaria! Lyrics
Just got back from the downtown palais
Where the music was so sweet
It knocked me right back in the alley
I'm ready, yea, yea, yea, I'm ready,
Wo, wo, wo, I'm ready
Sweet little lady sings like a songbird
And she sings the opera like you ain't never heard,
But she ain't ready,
No, no, no, she ain't ready
No, no, no, she ain't ready,
And she ain't gonna rock & roll
[CHORUS]
She's sweet on Wagner,
She loves the way Puccini lays down a tune,
And Verdi's always creeping from her room
Come on I'll show you how to sing the blues
Now baby, come on over you got nothin' to lose,
Are you ready, hey, hey, hey are you ready
Ooh, ooh, ooh, are you ready
I wanna show you how to rock and roll.
Now listen here baby she, said to me
Just, meet me at the opera house at a quarter to three,
'Cos I'm ready, yea, yea, yea, I'm ready,
Woo, hoo, hoo, I'm ready,
I'm gonna show you how to sing the blues.
[CHORUS -- repeat]
Far, far away the music is playing.
Well we were reelin' and a rockin' all through the night,
Yea we were rockin' at the opera house until the break of light,
And the orchestra were playin' all Chuck Berry's greatest tunes.
And the singers in the chorus all got off on singing blues,
And as the night grew older everybody was as one,
The people on the streets came runnin' in to join in song
Just to hear the opera singer singin' rock & roll so pure,
I thought I saw the mayor there but I wasn't really sure,
But it's alright.

Electric Light Orchestra Rockaria! Comments
Simply put ----> they took Chuck Berry and supercharged if after 10 years of Beatles education.....simple formula to success
One of my all time favorite bands.....To me, ELO is timeless
Kelly the bass player singing the soprano aria, they were all having such fun playing this song...Man, I LOVE this song.
"Oops!"
keep up the good work lads....Good Stuff!!!!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I've Reddit..!
Brilliance. Simply brilliance.
Maravilloso!
No-one is quite like ELO. Jeff Lynne is truly a genius. And the new album is amazing.
Amazing blend....
Classic.......love.
Back when the music mattered....
Arcade fire could've had a crack at this
After 0:08 it sounds like she says '' butthurt, butthurt ''
Well that one stayed sung, didn't it?
Most music sucked in 1974 but this was and will always be great
apple is the worst company, i will never use apple products
2019 who still listening
ELO is something else entirely. It's something your brain just clicks with.
"and I thought I saw the mayor there, but I wasn't really sure..."
OOPS ! Lovely.
That's such a little moment. Brilliant.
Jeff Lynn, he created his own style of music. Definitely a legend. I truly feel blessed knowing I grew up on this music. Headphones on listening to the whole album reading the inserts/words, etc. A habit I will cherish until I die.
The song at 2.39 is just pure E.L.O
Jeff lyne knows how to finish his songs on a high...brillant songwriting...
This song just gets on with it.
Fantastic album, Jeff lynnes´s ELO forever
John Lennon told Beatles fans, this is what the Beatles would have been in the 70s
He referred to them as "Sons of the Beatles." And it's no secret that ELO's sound was basically The Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour sound. Music critics have addressed that for ages.
He was right and Beatle Harrison agreed , love ELO
This is the greatest ELO song, and quite possibly the greatest of all songs, ever. I've got it memorized and can sing it karaoke. I love it!
Strangely this song introduced me to rock opera
brilliant
WEIT
_O O F_
Great band!great music!
Fenomenal
My other favorite ELO song ❤
No one meshed opera, classical and rock the way ELO did on this song. And yes, i'm including Queen!
Give louis clark (elo stringman) some credit.
I hope the kids are listening to this one.
We are boss
so this song, confirms 100%, the best music, no matter how epic (Zep), or how progressive (ELO), or sexy (Guns and Roses) or revolutionary (Beatles), can always be traced to pure rock n roll ....all these motherfuckers owe it all to the incomparable King of Rock N Roll...who himself took those early USA sounds and made them something incredible.

ELO MASTERPIERCE
One of the Best Groups!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I was a teen in the 70s,,,, what a Decade!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👏👏💕💕💕💕💕😀
It's pure genius how he mixed classic influences into a Chuck Berry style rock 'n roll song and those lyrics are timeless. This is one of those songs that if you hear it for the first time it burns into your brains and you never forget it. Awesome!
Pure creative energy. Jeff is so unique. I have everything they ever made. Hardly a duff song. Managed to get some colour vinyl singles too. Genius!
Steve Taylor me too also love freddie mercury peace
I hope they play this in heaven.

ABSOLUTE FANTASTIC!
Never was there a better song blending Opera , Rock and Classical music so seamlessly into one .Still sends shivers to this day !!!
I remember playing this during a class I had and everybody was so confused at the start and then the rest of it kicked in.
That put a smile on my face.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, I'm ready
And I'm really gonna rock tonight

But she ain't ready
No, no, no, she ain't ready

As a kid, I was hearing the opera singer in the beginning say "Hey, prevent me from madness. I hurt my head on people's knees."
Beats pop and rap crap by a long shot! This is my favorite music, rock. And I'm 12!!
BIG FUCKING CLASSIC !!! <3
Me, I'm a rocker but I always loved Beethoven and the others cause my Pop and Mom played EVERYTHING. What kills me abut this song is that in the entire suite of the album, Jeff can sing soul, jazz and growl a rocker. Brilliant and beautiful music. Been blown away from the first day it was issued and I bought the vinyl. Felt like th guy in the old Maxell ads.
Love this song!
This is one song I'll always remember each time in high school I cranked it up in my first ever 1977 Chevrolet Nova Jeff Lynn was a genius the main singer songwriter the group made many great hits in the 70's it was great.
Whoops xx

one of my fave ELO songs
To hear something 40 plus years later is emotional
Harriet the singing donkey brought me here
I am so lucky to have seen Jeff Lynne play this song at Madison Square Garden. Will never forget it.
...my life in music, E.L.O . moves to my soul as a righteous rock and roller.
As a kid, I thought the opera singer in the beginning was singing, "Hey, help me through please this madness. I hurt my hand on people's knees." :)
one of my favorites to sing anytime in your car or shower, God bless America. MAGA
“She loves the way Puccini lays down a tune and Verdi’s always creepin from her room!”

E L O were cool in the 70s and still are
Back in time last night at the GARDEN !! dear Jeff Lynne you are so fucking awesome!!! thank you, was amazing concert in the Madison Square Garden.
Love it x
Rock me in the universe
I remember a story my dad told me. He was in a crowded bar one time and you could request songs to be played via a music player. He brought an ELO CD and told the bartender to play it. He was a bit discouraged at first as the music that was playing at the time was some rock song. My dad was adamant about playing the CD and the bartender eventually decided to put the CD in. This was the first song that came up. A lot of people were confused at the sudden change and some disappointing remarks were made.
Then the intro stopped. Then everyone cheered.
Awesome.
good on your dad. :)
I like your dad 😊👍
I thought I saw the mayor there but I wasn't really sure but it's alright oh indeedy it is ..... brilliant
Anyone know what she is saying in opera ?
No. Nobody does...
philo betto Far... oops! Far, far in the distance you hear, you hear the music.
"Weit, weit in der Ferne, man hört, man hört die Musik"
Just adore the "Ooops" :)
Weit ..oops .. Weit hinein in die Ferne
Man hört, man hört die Musik
"Far, far in the distance, you can hear, you can hear the music."
I tend to lose it at Jeff's English version:
"Oh, far, far away, the music is playing..."
14 people disliked this song. probably didnt give it a chance because of the intro......which i love.
14 people i feel bad for. Their LOSS!
aaaaaaaaaa ! ups ! aaaaaaaaaaaa
Meet me at the opera house at quarter to 3. !!!!#!###.... ALL CHUCK BERRYS FAVORITE TUNES !!!!!- I WANNA GO BACK !!!! 😭
I entered high school in 1977 and used to crank this song up before every high school dance. It got me ready to hit the floor....used to love ELO....
Thumbs down for the word ''used'' to.
"" USED TO""??
ABSOLUTELY one of the definitions of ROCK & ROLL
Always have to listen to it twice when I do...
Gotta love it
ELO were actually not considered cool in the 70's? You have got to be kidding me! They are and always will be cool in ANY DECADE!
That ain't how I remember it.....
I think it's a bit more complicated than that. Like Abba, they were very popular, but other bands were considered to be cooler and the advent of punk was used against them a bit to cast them as being rather mainstream. Their music however has stood the test of time and it's great to see Jeff recording and touring with the band, bringing his wonderful music to new generations.
I was in high school 1976-1980. ELO and Kansas were considered uncool. Boston and Lynyrd Skynyrd were tres cool.
this song gets me hard
I thought I saw the mayor there....Probably ours, because he does absolutely nothing....
Saw them in concert back in the 70's. Fantastic. Still love their music. Had a crush on Ben Bevin
I saw them in Oakland about 79-80....it was a freakin' awesome show!!
Love this track awesome
