Electric Light Orchestra - Honest Men Lyrics

We're just a stone's throw
From burning hellfire
Does anybody know,
Where did all the heroes go?
We've had our fill of
This gallery of scoundrels,
The leaders of the world,
Those power hungry liars

Rise up and sound the sirens,
Send out the searching powers,
All we need is a few good men
Send the S.O.S. and red alerts
All across the universe
Calling your honest men?
S.O.S. emergency,
Sinking fast and getting worse.

Where's your honest men?
In some village, far away,
Or in a little town pub.
High on a mountain top
There must be an honest man
Calling all honest men

Throw out the tyrants,
The aged fat cats
Outlived their usefulness
They have led us to this mess
Make them answer,
Hold them to their promises,
And throw them in the street
If they won't tell the truth

S.O.S. and red alert
All across the universe,
Calling all honest men
S.O.S. emergency,

Sinking fast and getting worse,
Where's your honest men?
To your stations,
Man the ramparts,
The barricades
We need new heroes urgently

We need a few good honest men
Calling all honest men
Calling all honest men
Call to him
He lives next door,
Across the street
On the upper floor.

It's our only hope we need him now
Send the S.O.S. and red alert,
All across the universe,
Calling all honest men
S.O.S. emergency,
Sinking fast and getting worse,
Where's your honest men
Strike a blow,
Save the ship,
We need a few good honest men
Calling all honest men
Calling all honest men
Calling all honest men
S.O.S. across the universe
Where's your honest
We need your honest
Calling all honest men

Calling out all over the world,
Where's your honest men
Looking out all over the world,
We need your honest men

Electric Light Orchestra Honest Men Comments
  1. C.... K....

jeff lynne should be the main vocalist

  2. R.... G....

I dedicate this song to all those people who are fighting lies and corruption in politics, those who engage for the environment and against immoral traitor Donald Trump.

  3. M.... M....

Love that. It is quite amazing how guys caught that ELO tune perfectly without Jeff. Eric, Kelly, Bev, Bill and Louis proved their right as a very member of ELO, it was not just Jeff (who is also highly talented btw.).

  4. o.... ....

The only Pt 2 song that I ever heard get airplay, at a putt putt golf course.

  5. T.... E....

Hey ELO ll is cool two

  6. B.... T....

I like this song, but what makes this not as good as Jeff Lynne imo is the fact that the lyrics written from this "we need to change the world" perspective.
I appreciate the fact that ELO and Jeff Lynne have never gone political or anything near it. The only thing close was perhaps the album Time cuz that talks about the rise of technology, but this song is all implying "we need to defeat the evil people of the world" and I don't really like that.

  7. D.... M....

Sadly Hugh McDowell lost his battle with cancer last month aged 65. R.I.P. Hugh, 31-7-1953 to 06-11-2018.

  8. E.... F....

    louis Clark genious

  9. A.... J....

Jeff Lynne left the band , the rest wanted to carry on so they created ELO Part II. I like the tracks and I don't want to make any comparisons to or with Jeff's songs. Just to enjoy the ones I like.

  10. S.... s....

Great song! Bring me good memories

  11. t.... l....

Love Jeff, but this is fuckin' okay. :-)

  12. G.... ....

The songs are massively influenced by Kelly Groucutt, bass player and backing vocals, a very much underrated musician

    G.... ....

    Sadly no long with us

    G.... ....

Kelly didn't play on this or any of the tracks on the E.L.O. Part II debut album, he did tour with them in 1991 and he became a fully fledged member of E.L.O. Part II in 1992. Mik Kaminski also joined at the same time as they had disbanded their own outfit called "OrKestra". Kelly played with E.L.O. Part II until Bev Bevan left in 1999 and sold his rights to the E.L.O. name to Jeff Lynne, Kelly then played with The Orchestra from 2000 until his untimely death in February 2009. When Kelly wasn't touring with The Orchestra he toured the West Midlands with a band called "Session 60", they performed cover versions of classic tracks from the 1960's.

    G.... ....

@David MacGregor vas de enteradillo, eh?

  13. t.... l....

Of course...I love Jeff Lynn but both version's of ELO works for me.

  14. W.... B....

Excellent song! Very close to the classic ELO sound.

  15. T.... ....

Probably the only song that feels like a continuation of Lynne's ELO that's worthy of the name ELO Part Two, I would definitely put this on a one hit wonder compilation.

  16. 4.... g....

Bev bevan: ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA PART TWO

    Jeff lynne: JEFF LYNNE'S ELO

    4.... g....

    Original af man

  17. r.... ....

    so fine

  18. U.... N....

Only thing wrong is band name

  19. q.... ....

Sounds forced, boring lyrics, trying far too hard to prove themselves. The ELO name was like an anchor around their necks. Who needs that crap?

  20. M.... ....

Pure ELO sound, up to the edge of the Universe

  21. A.... M....

Another ELO fabulous song, lol. in my very long search for an honest man, I have learned the true meaning of two faced.

  22. R.... B....

So the drummer starts a new ELO and then uses a drum machine on the album? The song isn't that bad actually

  23. G.... L....

One of the best Album Covers of ELO

    G.... L....

    Covers?

  24. M.... S....

love this and today its so true especially when you view the vermin in the British parliament

  25. N.... O....

Amazing album. All of the songs are pleasing to my ears.

  26. A.... K....

Today's political climate makes this song so perfect to listen to.

  27. P.... ....

ELO Part II's songs always were pretty heavy-handed in their messages, but damn this one feels crushingly true, even today.

  28. J.... G....

Wasn't it the best the band could do without Jeff? I have been a Elo fan since I was 6 and I accept Elo 2 absolutely the band is the proof love you guys!!!

    J.... G....

I agree. If anything, ELO Part II was more Electric Light Orchestra than Jeff Lynne's ELO ever can be.

    J.... G....

    +infinity

    J.... G....

James Gross It had Louis Clark.. that’s why it sounded like ELO more than any other project. Find a copy of (Per-spek-tiv) you’ll see what I mean

    J.... G....

Sorry it’s not Jeff lynne 🙀👽🤮

    J.... G....

@James Gross ELO was Roy Wood's brainchild, not Jeff Lynne's. Woody planned ELO in 1968 when he was still in The Move and Jeff Lynne was in The Idle Race.

  29. J.... ....

The name "Part 2" is as lame as the drum machine & the jeff lynne ripoff vocalist

  30. E.... S....

This has Louis Clark orchestrating thats why some of these songs have the "old" ELO sound. I dont know why Jeff Lynne quit working with him.

    E.... S....

+Eric Stewart I read at the same time that after he gave up on ELO Part II, Bevan sold his half interest in the ELO name to Lynne, who owned the other half. Does Bevan ever appear with Lynne on ELO tours? I understand that Lynne has released albums under the name of Jeff Lynne's ELO.

    E.... S....

IAfter Bevan left the band in late 1999, he sold his half of the rights to the Electric Light Orchestra name back to Jeff Lynne, and the band changed its name to The Orchestra in 2016  The Move  announced that they had reformed again, and were due to perform at The Core Theatre in Solihull, West Midlands, with a line-up consisting of Bevan, Burton, Tree, and Kelsey; however it was later revealed that the band performing would no longer be billed as 'The Move', but as 'Bev Bevan's Zing Band', and would not feature Burton; with the line-up consisting of Bevan, Burton, and Kelsey, along with a returning Abby Brant, and Geoff Turton on lead vocals.

    E.... S....

@AdmrlLocke The truth of the whole Elo from start to Finish..Before i start, Without Roy Woods money from the Move, Elo would never have started. Jeff as a Muscian, Song writer, Never in question. As a human he is an arse..I know the following because of many sorces, X Band members, And also close friends with the band as it was. You will also see in parts Jeff gloats in his music, What he did, And did from the first Split. In 1983 Jeff informed the band and record company his wishes to fold the group, Jeff was told he was contracted until 1985.Just before the band split came the Album, Balance of power( clue in the title), The group went there seperate ways. In 1991 Bev approached Jeff, Could he reform the group, Jeff agreed with a condition , That once finished Bev would sell the writes of Elo part 2 to him. Prior to all that Mik and Kelly filled a law suit for unpaid royalties, Jefff refered to them as mere employees, it went on for years and Jeff settled out of court. In late 1998 Jeff ordered Bev to disband Elo 2. He told the band members on stage in 1999 this was the last gig. After that the Orchestra/orkestra were formed, As Jeff had took legal action either of the 2 could not have any reference to Elo,Not only that he filled law suits against the band members playing certain songs, He had advertisment bans on the groups in the uk, Meant it was not viable to tour, And have not done since 2009. If you recall the cd zoom, Most of the records were a dig at previous members. I could write alot more, But did you ever here of Noddy Holders Slade, Or Freddie Murcurys queen etc, Still.to this day , Jeff Lynns elo..And they flock to see him. In the uk we have a very good tribute band, They are so good were offered a contract 2 yrs ago to tour the USA, guess what Jeff blocked it. Even when the likes of Kelly when he died, The website for Elo had to be begged to say somthing, It took them 6 months. Iv had many chances to go see Jeff, Refused each time

    E.... S....

The Traveling Wilburys could be part of it. . .

    E.... S....

Sean long What Zoom songs are digs at members

  31. C.... O....

    Underrated song, underrated band.

  32. h.... m....

    the best

  33. S.... ....

Thanxxx a lot!! I didn't know this song, i love it! Typically elo universe ♥♥♥♥

  34. J.... L....

The only ELOII song that get close to the original Electric Light Orchestra...nice one

    J.... L....

    pace for univers and humanity

    J.... L....

I disagree. A lot of music from Moment of Truth sounds like classic ELO to me.

    J.... L....

Exactly, such as Breaking Down the Walls.

    J.... L....

@Scott Pierson Power of a million lights and Breaking Down the Walls-For Sure

  35. M.... S....

Its still incredible because it has the ELO feel good factor i love it

  36. Y.... M....

    this is wrong

  37. A.... P....

It's odd. When this song came out I thought it was incredible. Looking back on it now, it doesn't stand the test of time like Jeff Lynne written send do. It'd a very good ELO like piece. But it just feels a little flat compared to ELO.

    A.... P....

@Andy Pastuszak I think it's mostly the vocals, which are very weak in my opinion. If this was sung by Lynne, I'd like it a lot more. That and the general production seems a bit lacking, which is the other thing Lynne had a huge hand in.

    A.... P....

Definitely a lot to do with the production.. I tried to pick out what it is, but the whole mix isn't great.. quite flat, I'd go so far to say it sounds more like a demo than a finished track.

  38. R.... R....

que gran cancion ,,hace años la buscaba,,gracias,,, te amo ElO!!!! por siempre

  39. M.... M....

I think your comment should be on top!

  40. A.... R....

Sure looks like a "Bird of Prey" to me :)

    A.... R....

That's the "Part II" saucer... ;-)

  41. r.... ....

WRONG... jeff lynne walked away and wanted nothing more to do with the ELO sound for 20 years and when he does finally write a new album it flop serves him right!! the rets of ELO Part 2 had every right as they were there from the beginning

  42. E.... ....

Is that a Romulan "Bird of Prey" in the upper left corner??

Sure as hell looks like one.

    E.... ....

Yep, it has some extra greebles but sure looks like it.

  43. c.... ....

don't try to sound like Jeff Lynne? Are you serious? Every track tries to replicate lynne's song writing and production. Just like "A momentary lapse of reason" saw Gilmour tried to copy the song writing of Waters. As Waters stated "I think it's very facile, but a quite clever forgery ... The songs are poor in general; the lyrics I can't quite believe. Gilmour's lyrics are very third-rate."

  44. M.... P....

Wow, what a topical song! Although Jeff Lynn is absent, the new sound comes together nicely. Yes awesome, forgotten about track! Hope this one will be rediscovered.

  45. s.... ....

I really did like this album. Ilove ELO. I wish ZOOM could have been more like this.

  46. F.... ....

ELO part two was a good name for this group. They don´t even try to sound like Jeff Lynne but some different. Too bad, they performed too much Lynne songs in their concerts.

  47. J.... ....

@gks1986 - sorry, they toured in the late 1990s, then they broke up. Kelly Groucutt has since passed away. This track is from their 1990 album pictured above.

  48. F.... ....

I think ELO part two had a new kind of magic. They should have concentrated more in their own material. Like they did in this album but not in their concerts.
