Edwin Starr - S.O.S. (Stop Her On Sight) Lyrics

Hey, hey, hey
I'm sending out an S.O.S.
Hey, hey, hey
I'm sending out an S.O.S.

I'm sending out an S.O.S.
Because I'm in so much distress
So if you see my baby
If you see my baby
Stop her on sight

Hey, hey, hey
I'm sending out an S.O.S.
Hey, hey, hey
I'm sending out an S.O.S.

I'm gonna tell the F.B.I.
I'm likely to get myself a secret spy
Because I lost my baby
So if you see my baby
Stop her on sight

You can tell her by the way she walks
You can tell her by the way she talks
You can tell her by the way she smiles
I guarantee you it will drive you wild
So if you see my baby
If anybody sees my baby
Stop her on sight

Hey, hey, hey
I'm sending out an S.O.S.
Hey, hey, hey
I'm sending out an S.O.S.

Quality by the late great Edwin Starr. SOS only got to No.35 in the UK originally back in June 1966, but re-released very late in 1968, it charted and did much better peaking at No.11 in January 1969. Should have been top 10.

Who has given the thumbs down on this. This is soul music at its finest, wish we had good music today like this , instead of the garbage we have .

    B.... H....

    It wasn't me :)

    B.... H....

Yes Soul and other songs in this era are great but it is NOT all rubbish music today, we have a lot of very talented singers and groups now. Please don't be so quick to judge.

    B.... H....

sally kilby today's music is not what I call great music . Everyone to their own choice of music. But for me the 70s are gold standard music and artists. The kind of songs that do not fade with time passing they are unforgettable. You choose some music of today , to be honest that is your preference to me it's nothing I find at all good . That is my personal choice. Give me the 70s any day!!

The late, great, Edwin Starr. Who could forget? We had some great party's at our house in London during the late 60's and early 70's where this stuff would be played. Great times, great memories. I will never forget Edwin Starr.

    J.... W....

    James,

The 4 elements who put their thumbs down, should stop doing stuff like that.

Did you know that Edwin Starr is buried in the UK.

My brother Pete often visits his grave to pay tribute and place flowers on his grave, because likewise, he is the man that brought us great joy and pleasure during our youth through listening and dancing to his music.

Edwin's grave is located plot No H19-91 in the traditional area at Wilford Hill [southern] cemetery, Nottingham. Climb the path up the hill to the main building.
The grave is located to the right hand side of the building about 100 yards away from the building.

GOD REST HIS SOUL, TO THE LATE, GREAT MAN OF SOUL

    🙏🎶🎻🎺🎼🎵🎷🎸🥁

I had the pleasure of seeing this man perform at the Mecca ballroom in Portsmouth in the early 70s. Absolutely fantastic experience I have never forgotten. He was also a great dancer. Edwin thank you for the memories sir.

That Tamla Motown pressing must of been a re- release as the first release in Britain was the one I had on the Polydor label .

    G.... D....

If you look closely you'll see that the Tamla version was released in 1964. The Polydor one is the re-release, and entered the UK charts in December 1968.

    G.... D....

Edwin recorded this for the Ric Tic label and Motown later bought them out. It came out on Polydor in 1966, was reissued by Polydor in 1968 when it became a hit but then later appeared on the British Motown Chartbusters Volume 3 lp. It took me a long time to work out how that was possible. It was later reissued as a Tamla Motown 45.
