Easton, Sheena - When He Shines Lyrics

This man's a child, this man is old
Sometimes he's mild, sometimes he's bold
This man I love, sometimes in spite
I wish he would stick to his guns, or abandon the fight

But when he shines, oh when he shines
Yes when he shines, he shines so bright

Sometimes a tramp, sometimes a dude
He changes colour just like a cameleon, cant find the mood
He is a song that's not easy to write
He is a moon in the morning, and the sun out at night

But when he shines, when he shines, oh when he shines, he shines so bright

This man's a gentleman, this man is strong
This temperamental man plays me along

But when he shines, when he shines, oh when he shines, he shines so bright
Yes when he shines, when he shines, oh when he shines, he shines so bright

But when he shines, oh when he shines
Yes when he shines, he shines so bright

Best Song She Ever Made? "You Could Have Been With Me"

    R.... W....

I thing no , because there are too many beautiful songs ... my favorites "Like Ice out in the rain" or "In the Winter" or "Wind beneath my Wings" ... there are too many , beautyful und good , a fantastic voice that you now find not so easy .
Today there a many femal singer , but there a no one like her ... i love her voice

  7. C.... R....

Queen of the ballads! No one could sing a ballad like her. Miss her . Where is she now?

  8. A.... W....

This song just breaks my heart her voice is perfection on this track a classic underrated song

    A.... W....

    Agree - so beautiful

    A.... W....

Adrian Williams Because female acts were not able to chart higher back in then. Madonna changed that, ‘cause she was empowered without a great voice but a good presence being a very good performer. Sheena Easton could have been greater if she had appeared at time when Whitney Houston raised (end of 1985)

    A.... W....

Saw her live, she sang this (Nov 2016), every bit as good.

  9. T.... ....

Most of her other songs were great, This sounds too funereal....

  10. G.... M....

Is she singing this live?!?!? Oh, man! If she is, this is beautiful!!!! Perfect!!!

    G.... M....

You can tell it is live. Just listen to the ending.

  11. P.... L....

    Gorgeous everything.

No Mariah Carey or Celine Dion screeching.

A warmth of tone that brings to mind Karen Carpenter or Linda Ronstadt

Entirely underrated, due to singing second rate songs her whole career.

    P.... L....

Paul Lee couldn't agree more with you beauty all over takes me to another place

    P.... L....

Paul, you have restored my faith that there are still people with a good ear for music.

    P.... L....

She never sang second rate songs! She had huge hits for a decade with Kenny Rogers, Prince, she recorded Wind Beneath my Wings 7 years before Betty Mildred.

  12. T.... S....

On this day in 1982 {March 13th} Sheena Easton performed "When He Shines" on the ABC-TV program 'American Bandstand'...
Fifteen days later on March 28th, 1982 the song entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #75; and nine weeks later on May 30th, 1982 it peaked at #30 {for 2 weeks} and spent 15 weeks on the Top 100...
Between 1981 and 1991 she had twenty-one Top 100 records; six made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Morning Train (Nine to Five)"* for two weeks in 1981...
She just missed having three #1 records when "U Got the Look" with Prince {1987} and "The Lover in Me" {1988} both peaked at #2...
    * Exactly one year earlier on March 13th, 1981 she appeared on NBC's 'Midnight Special' and performed "Morning Train"...

  25. T.... H....

Give an artist a microphone, background, a good tune, and let her shine.

  26. C.... o....

    No auto-tune for this sista.

  27. s.... ....

    Beeee u ti fulllll

  28. R.... ....

I have her earlier recordings on vinyl, cassettes and also on CD now..... Sheena is so brilliant, her voice is absolutely beautiful .... how any one could ever say Mariah Carey has the most beautiful voice, obviously was too intimidated to listen to Sheena! Sheena sang ... she never screamed! Her high notes are amazing and fabulous to listen to ... these awful singers today and even over the last 20 years, either scream too much or want to make a video to prove they really want to be a stripper! Here, Sheena shows what TALENT is!

  29. S.... T....

It's interesting that we don't have female singers today that have this kind of raw, pure vocal talent.

    S.... T....

Steve Trask I was just thinking yesterday these songs are beautiful!!!! Why can’t these young gals do these!!! What a shame!!! I would love young gals to feel what I felt younger!

  30. C.... C....

My favourite Easton song! So true of a particular man xxx

  31. U.... ....

Coime on Mark, if you've 'been there' surely you 'get it'? ;)

  32. J.... M....

    Great performance and beautiful song!

  33. G.... L....

Love it! When He Shines, He shines so bright! :)

  34. c.... ....

Ah when he shines....he shines so bright. .

  35. M.... W....

Pretty melody, well sung. But some of those lyrics, I don't know. Sometimes a tramp / Sometimes a dude / He changes colors just like a chameleon / That can't find the mood.   Ouch.

    M.... W....

@Timothy Himes It's 'dude', a term used by Scots to mean 'dandy'.

    M.... W....

@glittering multitude I stand corrected, I still like the song and SE.

    M.... W....

Mark W those particular lyrics are what brought me here, on the radio is sort of sounds like an Indian woman is singh ing it.

lol did you see what i did there 🤣

    M.... W....

Thank you, glittering multitude, I was hoping SOMEBODY knew what a dude was! Also, it's not just the Scots who referred to dudes as dandies. (Here: "Word Origin and History for dude. n. 1883, "fastidious man."') So, she sings about him as a tramp, then a dude, to show he has two sides. (I know you know this, but I'm hoping Mark W. will see this.) Hasn't anybody ever heard of a "dude ranch?" Dudes were men who weren't cowboys, they were city folk!

    M.... W....

I agree, Mark W. Milquetoast lyrics. Snore. Makes me want to hurl.
