Earl Thomas Conley - Too Many Times Lyrics

Rivalries between sons and fathers
Caused me to hurt that Dad of mine
How I'd love to bring him back and say I'm sorry
But the world has turned too many times

Tension between friends and lovers
Can cause you to go over the line
How I'd love to call some up and talk it over
But the world has turned too many times

Oh, too many times I felt I should be freer
And too many times I ended up alone
Oh, too many times I tried to prove them all a liar
When they said you can never go home

A vow we take when we say forever
Left unattended just dies on the vine
Now I wonder if forever wonders ever
If the world has turned too many times

Oh, too many times I felt I should be freer
And too many times I ended up alone
Oh, too many times I tried to prove them all a liar
When they said I will never go home

Tensions between friends and lovers
Make you feel like you're losing your mind
What I'd give to rewind and start all over
But the world has turned too many times

Rivalries do not breed loyalty
Rivalries do not breed loyalty
(Keep turning me, oh, too many times)
(Round and round and round too many times)

I'd forgotten how much I loved this song. ETC will always hold a special place in my heart … I was a cub reporter shortly before this song was released and ETC was one of my first big-name interviews. Nervous, I stumbled over the introduction twice, when he grinned at me, took the mic and said, "Hey folks, I'm Earl Thomas Conley and I'm talking with Miss...". He'd intro'd himself and me! He was as lovely a man off-stage as he was on-stage. Fortunately, we have technology to keep his amazing, sultry, gritty voice with us always and his memory alive. RIP my friend.

I met Earl in 1989. My first ever trip backstage working in radio. Met every artist who played country fest in Cadott, WI. I said very few words to Earl...I was star struck. He politely took a picture with me and signed 2 albums and a CD. Great few minutes of my life. He was one of the greatest! Gonna miss him.

  26. J.... L....

Great song released when I was fifteen years old. Such a great duo and meaningful song. RIP Earl Thomas Conley.

  27. D.... O....

ETC was hugely respected by many in the industry. Both Toby Keith and Blake Shelton consider him to be one of the best of all time.

    D.... O....

Tim McGraw and Chris Young consider him to be one of the best, too

    D.... O....

@Kylie Pollert I wouldn't doubt there are MANY artists whom he influenced, too!

Amazing he died in 1971 and continued to make hits and reach stardom...seems like he just died...time flies...

I do not believe he died that long ago, Earl Thomas Conley (October 17, 1941 – April 10, 2019). His death was more recent.

@Stacy--What are you, some kind of a joker? There are two people in the video--One lady. Sounds like you just had some twisted reason to want to bring race into this.

  39. A.... M....

    Wonderful Song and Voice
    🎶💙❤🎶

  40. B.... A....

Have loved this song for so long! Anita Pointer made this song stellar. <3

  41. W.... R....

Man he is was so good looking!!!!!!

  42. C.... G....

Never heard this, goes to show how under rated he was.

    C.... G....

He had a lot of country hits, but yeah he's not as well known today and that's a shame.

    C.... G....

@jarjon76 What's significant is, the great country artists ALL know ETC.

    C.... G....

Yeah unfortunately his legacy isn't nearly as large as his lengthy songbook of huge chart hits would indicate. You won't ever hear this song on a "classic country" station even though it was a #2 hit on the charts.

    C.... G....

He was highly rated, you must be confused with someone else.

    C.... G....

@Mark Ellsworth he was over qualified..just like jobwise, they tell you your either not qualified or over qualified. Know what I'm saying? But he was the best. Has a lot of great songs.

  43. T.... M....

Love this song, been a long time since I’ve heard this one. Great song with Anita Pointer & ETC! 😍💙 Love Earl Thomas Conley! 💙🎶
