Dylan, Bob - Trying To Get To Heaven Lyrics

The air is getting hotter, there's a rumblin' in the skies
I've been wading through the high muddy water
With the heat risin' in my eyes
Every day your memory grows dimmer
It dosn't haunt me like it did before
I've been walking through the mirror to nowhere
Tryin' to get to heaven before they close the door.

When I was in Missouri they would not let me be
I had to leave there in a hurry
I only saw what they let me see
You broke a heart that loved you
Now you can seal up the book and not write anymore
I've been walkin' that lonesome valley
Tryin' to get to heaven before they close the door.

People on the platforms, waitin' for the trains
I can hear their hearts a-beatin'
Like pendulums swinging on chains
When you think that you've lost everything
You find out you can always lose a little more
I'm just goin' down the road feeling bad
Tryin' to get to heaven before they close the door.

I'm goin' down the river, down to New Orleans
They tell me everything is gonna be all right
But I don't know what all right even means
I was ridin' in a buggy with Miss Mary Jane
Miss Mary Jane got a house in Baltimore
I've been all around the world, boys
And I'm tryin' to get to heaven before they close the door.

Gonna sleep down in the parlor and relive my dreams
I close my eyes and I wonder
If everything is as hollow as it seems
Some trains don't pull no gamblers
No midnight ramblers, like they did before
I've been to sugar town, I shook the sugar down
Now I'm tryin' to get to heaven before they close the door.

Dylan, Bob Trying To Get To Heaven Comments

On another matter, I wish there was an upload for the December 5th Beacon show. Seems to be the one that reviewers seem to agree was the best of the Beacon bunch, but no luck so far. Seems like the security has been even tighter this time round (getting that way all round).

    M.... A....

I didn't know this. I thought all the nights were circulating.
Because I'm on a mission to upload all ten nights in a single video. That video should be 15+hours long, yes and would be my longest video ever, but I can only do that if all shows are circulating.
Not sure when I'm gonna do that.
Should do it before the 2020 Tour starts.

    M.... A....

@mr tambourine Hope you can find 5th. And by the way I agreed with your comments on THC. How you'd gone off it, but found it reinvigorated this time around. I'd had enough of it before, but really liked it this Autumn (slightly similar feeling about ERK too though I've always liked that more).

    M.... A....

    @Mark Anon
Oh yes yes. Glad you're paying attention. Means a lot.
I sometimes feel like the info I put in my video descriptions are useless.

    M.... A....

@mr tambourine I'm sure there are many like me who pay close attention to what you write. You are appreciated I am sure.

  2. M.... A....

It's impossible to keep up with you, Mr Tambourine. This one, I have heard (and heard and heard...), but you are so incredibly prolific. Every time I look at your uploads there are more. Thank you.

    M.... A....

@mr tambourine Elston is pretty prolific too, but though he uploads some pretty good stuff he's not the self-effacing kind!

    M.... A....

    @Mark Anon
Well now you have just proven that your first comment was indeed true. You can't catch up to my uploads. Because if you did, you would realize the true face of Elston Gunn.
But it's a long story, I won't tell you what it is.
I'm just going to tell you that Elston harasses other channels.
He once bragged to me about how he shut down Sad Eyed Lady's channel, the channel that everybody misses.
At first I didn't believe it, but now I know it's true. Sad Eyed Lady I think even said it before his channel went down.
Elston gave me two copyright strikes in the last couple of months. One more and my channel could be terminated.
So I will never say he's prolific. Not just because of this. Not to mention that none of the footage is his. It's all jinal007, woolhall, hollisbrown000, Hollis Brown 1960, Lucky Wilbury etc.
    And listen to this:
My second copyright strike was a few days ago.
I made a lyric video of Lenny Bruce Irvine 2019.
Elston reported me for taking his audio.
The first audio to be uploaded to YouTube was by Jack Frost. And you can check this. Elston uploaded it three days later, with footage of Bob playing guitar in probably '95. So it's '95 Bob on guitar lip synching to Lenny Bruce of '95 but the sound is actually from the Irvine 2019 audio.
And many people who watch his videos don't have a clue about that. They probably think that's 2019 footage.
And by the way, before uploading, I e-mailed Jack Frost, the original uploader and also TAPER of the show, where I asked for permission to do a sound upgrade and do a lyric video, because Bob made the first ever lyric change to the song.
And Elston reports me and gives me a strike.
90% of subscribers aren't aware of this.
A certain number of subscribers is aware that Elston and his channel is a fraud, and if you want to know why, I'll tell you, but it's a long story, but I can only tell you if you believe me. Otherwise, I won't.
More and more people are aware that Elston is a fraud and a disgusting human being or simply an internet troll, who thinks he's a god, and just harasses people. I have collected nearly 200 screenshots since October 2019 of him and how he insults and bullies people with his comments.

I'll just tell you one thing. Elston has 500 videos. I have nearly 1,8k videos.
Elston never uploaded anything new to YouTube.
Everything he uploaded already existed. It just happened to get more views than the original video, so that's why it seems to many misinformed people unfortunately that the original video never even existed.
I can't say that I've only uploaded new content to YouTube because I didn't. But I guarantee a lot of stuff was never uploaded before I came. I'm not trying to put myself in a better position here.
    But you can check it.
Many people told me that I have stuff no one else uploaded.
"Your channel has stuff I couldn't find anywhere else".
Also, more than half of Dylan channels that upload content, they don't respect Elston. He has such a bad reputation and so many affairs. One of them is that he monetizes his channel, which is quite possible since commercials always appear in his videos. That can be one of the signs of monetization.
And anyone who knows something about bootlegging knows this is wrong.
Some people ask me sometimes "what's wrong with profit".
    Well, it's wrong.
    Bootlegs are not for sale.
Every bootleg has that written on it.
Bootlegs are for sharing and for joy and for fun.
    Not for selling.

Anyway, I've gone too far, but you can see that I'm full of disappointment towards that channel, but for good reasons.
I just gave you a summed-up version of the full story. I hope you understood it to some degree.

    M.... A....

@mr tambourine I have had a few little spats with Elston and I have found him to be aggressive and nasty. I have avoided his channel as much as I can for over a year now. I was checking in every day during the last leg of the tour and I do notice where new material comes from and I do remember noticing the Irvine Jack Frost that you mention. I noticed that EG also appropriated Not Dark Yet quite quickly, too, when the first uploader of the first US autumn gig was I think riff somebody or other and JF. In fact, my impression is that all Elston's re-worked videos of the last leg of the tour (which is when I've been placing closest attention) were uploaded after they'd originally been uploaded pretty much audio only by others. I noticed how he was using incorrect footage. In fact on one recent video I did see of his, I commented to him sarcastically that I wondered who was playing the piano because it was a video with Bob on guitar when I knew that he'd actually played piano on it.

I was being quite restrained, um tactful I suppose, earlier when I mentioned him. He is the only Dylan uploader that I actively dislike (all others I have a great deal of respect for and gratitude towards and all seem very modest really), and what you have just said about him doesn't surprise me though it does piss me off mightily. Sad Eyed (who I thought was female) was worth 50 of him and I was very sad when they were wiped.

You have not gone too far at all. I absolutely share your view regarding monetisation, respecting others and acknowledging their work (I've uploaded a few songs myself and always ask before doing so). It really irritates me that he's managed to get the number of gushing followers that he has (and it has nothing to do with jealosy). The man is a bastard. It's the only word to describe him.

    M.... A....

    @Mark Anon
Oh wait, you were the guy who asked the sarcastic question?!
Ha! Yes! I knew you looked familiar. I laughed so hard at that.

    I mean, I know you.
I think you commented on a lot of my videos.
But it's hard to keep up. I'm in good terms with so many of my subs. So it shouldn't be surprising I mix people now and then. Sorry for that nonetheless.

Yes I get it, you were trying to be polite with your comment and not get into trouble. You obviously didn't know what I thought of Elston and that's okay.

It's very frustrating. But it's easier when I know people like you understand.
I even wanted to quit not long ago because I felt it wasn't fair anymore.
But since I noticed more people became aware after I spread the word along with Swingin Pig helping me out, I came back.
Swingin Pig was also attacked by him. And you know when? Right when he gave me the Palo Alto 2019 recordings he taped (Not Dark Yet and Ballad Of A Thin Man).
And Elston, because of watching nearly all my content, noticed it. He comes to my videos to dislike them. He can't comment on my videos because I banned him from commenting because he was insulting me like crazy.

I guess I can trust you. Since I see you trust me.

If you want, you can give me your e-mail. We can talk in private.
I can tell you something nobody knows.

By the way, if you can, hop by tomorrow on my live premiere video, Sun City West 2006. We can chat with the rest of my subs. It's always good and fun.
Those subs of mine that chat with me are more aware than other people about Elston. They even noticed it on their own skin unfortunately, because he insulted them.

So, see what you can do.

    M.... A....

    @Mark Anon Got it thanks

  3. A.... o....

    Wonderful song

  4. R.... B....

Por essas músicas que tenho um sonho de aprender a tocar gaita, é um instrumento incrível!!!

  5. J.... K....

    This is awful.

  6. B.... D....

    Who’s from Life Istelf

  7. A.... ....

This was definitely the best version. Generally, it is my favorite Dylan song. I love the studio version but I wish he released this version on a studio record too (in the same way that he released two versions of Forever Young).

  8. j.... ....

It is really great version, I am in heaven when I am listening it. Big thanks!

  9. M.... 9....

Saw the master In feungirola spain, may I say that I saw a master at work.

  10. S.... ....

This is a great one too. There's quite a few that could contend for the title of best version ever.

    S.... ....

I don't like to call certain performances best ever, because it's hard to choose. However, I put it here so people would listen to it more. I don't think it's clickbait however. It really sounds like it should sound. I think that's what a live performer like Dylan tries to do. Bring it to a level where it sounds like it should sound.

  11. A.... ....

The whole album is this great! "Time of Mind" won 'Best Album' Grammy in 1998 [his 4th Decade of #FreshMusic!] Its ALL #BobDylan ➡️ Poet Laureate, with one 13-minute song "Highlands" that's just unabashedly #OUTSTANDING!

  12. M.... A....

Not wishing to detract in any way from this upload, but this is the same gig but with a very good video of the band and Bob, which adds to it all... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLZxnnmeypM&list=WL&t=0s&index=95

    Damn….This IS particularly excellent

Mr T-man, Listen to this number from Towson MD (November 19, 1999), and get back to me. It kills.

  16. N.... ....

Well you don't expect 2009 to yield a "best ever" (a croaky voice and annoying keyboard year) and I'm not sure it is but it's bloody good. He phrases it differently to how I've ever heard it before, Bob's really in the zone. Good guitar solos too.

    N.... ....

NorthCrayMalcolm we also had annoying organ year lol

  17. T.... R....

Waited for trains myself for years, 15 to be exact. Then went to the west coast of Ireland, mayo, no trains here , sat my demons out with no help . that was 25 years ago, found my peace and place it can be done

I'm going to use that post as the perfect example of a condensed narrative. Wow.
