Dusty Springfield - The Colour Of Your Eyes Lyrics

Who am I
To say you didn't love me?
When I can't remember
The colour of your eyes
The colour of your eyes

I don't know
How I missed loving you
Still I can't remember
The colour of your eyes
The colour of your eyes

Why didn't you see me
Standing there
Standing there with dreams of love?
To fill the empty shades of grey

I can see
Now that you're leaving me
All the shades of autumn
In the colour of your eyes
The colour of your eyes
The colour of your eyes
The colour of your eyes
The colour of your eyes

    Thanks for lyrics.

This song is so achingly gorgeous. An ethereal, otherworldly arrangement. Beautiful, haunting music. Dusty sings it as if she's walking down the loneliest street in the world, because she let her love go. Now it's forever Autumn. And to think, this track was the B side of a 45 RPM record!

I’ve always thought it should have been an A side Joe!, A beautiful song that just wraps itself around you....

Dusty Springfield records yet another Norma Tanega song. Tanega -- a great, under-rated singer-songwriter who had two minor hits in the 60's with "Walkin' My Cat Named Dog," (covered by other artists) and "The Street That Rhymes With 6 AM." Dusty Springfield recorded Norma's "No Stranger Am I, " which to this day is one of Dusty's best songs. Very intense...beautiful. And few people even know about it.

    J.... L....

Dusty did a great job with "No Stranger Am I." Didn't realize Tanega wrote "The Color of Your Eyes." But now that I think about it, can believe she wrote it as sounds like same style of writing as "No Stranger Am I." Both songs have a surreal quality. Not a fan of her singing. But really like these two songs she wrote. Did she write anything else Dusty covered?

    J.... L....

Norma wrote these songs that Dusty covered Lori: "No Stranger Am I", "Earthbound Gypsy," "Midnight Sounds," "The Colour of Your Eyes," "Morning" & "Go My Love." It is reported that during the late Sixties Tanega had a romantic relationship with Dusty so many songs may have a deeper meaning. It is true that the women were good friends up to Dusty's death in 1999. I admired both.

That's terrific. Had no idea Dusty covered so many of her songs. Will check them out. Norma had a very interesting style of song writing. On 'No Stranger Am I" and "The Color of Your Eyes" the melody lines are simple but so contemplative. Enjoy both of those songs.

Oh, that "Earthbound Gypsy" song is great. Dusty laid down a jazzy and impeccable vocal on it.

You sound genuinely happy Lori. I'm happy for you. Yes, discovering new songs (even if they are old) and they affect you that way -- it's what makes listening worth the time. I discover songs by unknown artists all the time that are great and have never been hits. I'm glad I was able to send you those titles. If you have the time check out: Kris McKay's "If Ever You Need Me," and Darryl Braithwaite's dramatic "All I Do." For an oldie -- Timi Yuro's superb live, powerful version from Denmark of "You'll Never Walk Alone," which you must hear to the end to appreciate. Also, her heart-wrenching theme from the film Interlude -- also called "Interlude." There are others, but this is a good starting point. These may not be to your taste, but they are worth checking.
