Dusty Springfield - Sunny Lyrics

Sunny, yesterday my life was filled with rain
Sunny, you smiled at me and really eased the pain
Oh, the dark days are done
The bright days are here
My sunny one shines so sincere
Sunny one so true
I love you

Sunny, thank you for that sunshine bouquet
Sunny, thank you for the love you brought my way
You gave to me your all and all
Now I feel ten feet tall
Sunny one so true
I love you

Sunny, thank you for the truth you let me see
Sunny, thank you for the facts from A to Z
My life was torn like windblown sand
And then a rock was formed when we held hands
Sunny one so true
I love you

Sunny, thank for that smile upon your face
Sunny, thank you for that gleam that flows with grace
You're my spark of nature's fire
You're my sweet complete desire
Sunny one so true
I love you

Sunny, yesterday my life was filled with rain
Sunny, you smiled at me and really eased the pain
The dark days are done
The bright days are here
My sunny one shines so sincere
Sunny one so true
Sunny one so true
Sunny one so true
I love you

  26. M.... ....

? I know what this means and I'm not an experienced jazz singer!

  27. j.... s....

    That's my girl!

  28. D.... ....

    Sunny in 3/4.
    Usually 4/4.
Impressive phrasing you'd expect only an experienced jazz singer to be capable of

  29. W.... ....

This song can only be sung with SOUL.

  30. A.... A....

    AMEN.

  31. S.... ....

    She IS the best. ;-)

  32. E.... D....

    She was amazing!

  33. J.... L....

    pretty lady..

  34. c.... ....

@randmace She was born in London to an English father and Irish mother.

  35. t.... d....

@AchelonX I don't think that labels like "soul" or "jazz" are useful to classify these versions. Actually I think that there are more "soul-like" versions of this song even here on youtube, starting from the original Hebb version. On the contrary, I think this Springfield version in the use of brass is rather akin to the Ellington-Sinatra version. The problerm I have with it has nothing to do with arrangement but only with the tempo. Less than two minutes it is just too fast for me.

  36. A.... ....

@greatbighand It's because this is a soul version of the song.

Frank Sinatra was mainly big band / jazz.

Different vocal phrasing due to different genres.

  37. t.... d....

Too fast, sounds almost like she wants to get rid of it asap. Maybe I'm used too much to the slow Sinatra-Ellington version.

  38. t.... ....

wow. that's really hip in 6/8 [or 3/4, depending on how you feel it] ~ very unexpected!

  39. l.... ....

    luv this song and spooky

  40. W.... ....

    Elegance...

  41. b.... s....

Fine version. Love Dusty with the rocking big band.

  42. m.... k....

that's music, much better than today, fuck the techno

  43. C.... W....

oooh, wow... what a talented woman... such feel for the music... as the poster above says, the coolest britishsinger ever.

  44. A.... T....

Oh Gosh, why, why I wasn't born in 50s, or 60s?

  45. M.... N....

sorry but this is too fast.... love it still

  46. M.... M....

@italoman9 absolutely perfect way to describe Dusty

  47. M.... S....

Fuck Amy Winehouse. That´s the WOMAN.

  48. L.... S....

    Class-A lady all the way.

  49. t.... b....

    @gferdinandus no

    that would be steve marriott

  50. r.... ....

Dusty is really a Irish girl. I saw a tribute by Martha Reeves (Martha and the Vandellas fame/Motown) where she mentioned Dusty as a great friend who sang with a lot of feeling and soul! I always thought she was British also... glad to hear she's Irish though!!

  51. d.... ....

I remember Merv Griffin singing this song on his show and dedicating it to his daughter named Sunny. Charlize Theron is currently making a movie about the life of Dusty Springfield and I can't wait for America to rediscover Dusty's talent!

  52. s.... s....

an amazing voice... like the wind blowing through rushes

  53. T.... O....

nice one, but cher's version is far better

  54. P.... V....

I bet she smoked 2 packs right before beginning, see the hard breathing at the start speech.. nice song , great swing

  55. j.... ....

What a doll Dusty is...she can nail any song she cares to try. Love you forever girl...

  60. F.... M....

@Ricoventura and what about Petula Clark?

  61. i.... ....

Dusty was like a one-woman Supremes show--what a talented lady with such great stage presence!

  62. d.... ....

whoever the arranger was who suggested the 3/4 time needs to take a bow.....makes this version stand out..........

  63. R.... K....

i so woulda banged dusty springfield back in her heyday.

  64. K.... J....

Is there somewhere that we can get all of her tv series on dvd? 4 years worth???

  65. A.... ....

    Love it!!!

  66. N.... ....

Jaysus! With a name like Mary Isabel/Isobel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien her parents can only have come from one place!

  67. A.... ....

Awesome singer, wonderful voice. But still I like the original better.

  68. M.... C....

I discovered her a few days ago and she is amazing!!

  69. B.... C....

You're arguing about her being English or Irish but on the inside she was pure Black American. (And quite a good singer I might add)

  70. T.... H....

She is gorgeous and has the most unforgettable voice!

  71. C.... R....

    She was Irish actually!

  72. D.... ....

    @carlotessarini
I don't question my friends either. But you're not my friend, sorry :)

    Pure classic dusty ! FABULOUS......

  75. B.... C....

Wow! She really kicks ass on this one.

Intonation is spot on, performance brillant all round.

Love the choice of 3/4 time sig done as a jazz waltz over the usual 4/4 time.

  76. L.... ....

I absolutely loooved the way chics dressed back then...U totally focused on pure raw talent and class instead of tits and azz...

  77. L.... M....

    Version extraordinaire !!

  78. d.... ....

    Dusty was great...

  79. d.... ....

    Cool,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  80. 1.... ....

    Beautiful, glamourous, and great talent!!

  81. e.... ....

Great version of this song....Only thing was I think she calls it a happy song....It was written by a guy about his brother who died before his time...but Dusty gives it an upbeat sound !!!!

  82. j.... ....

It's probabbly the inspiration of Diners Club tv commercial tune

  83. R.... ....

The coolest british singer ever. Thank you.

  84. A.... ....
