Dusty Springfield - Reputation Lyrics

(Reputation) - [Repeat x12]

They're gonna want you
They're gonna love you
They're gonna make your dreams come true
They don't know the real you, but
They're gonna steal you, oh
They're gonna take my dreams away
Well you tried, you looked for a way
Of keeping your face, of keeping your face, oh, oh

(Reputation)
You try and you try again
(Isn't worth the patience)
You leave me to cry again
(Who cares what they're thinking?) oh, oh
(Who cares what they're whispering?, whispering, whispering)

You know I won't blame you
And I won't defame you, oh
I won't name you in any court of law
Well you tried, you looked for a way
Of keeping your face, of keeping your face, oh, oh

(Reputation)
You try and you try again
(Isn't worth the patience)
You leave me to cry again
(Who cares what they're thinking?) oh, oh
(Who cares what they're whispering?, whispering)
They're whispering

(Reputation)
You try and you try again
(Isn't worth the patience)
You leave me to cry again
(Who cares what they're thinking?) Baby
(Who cares what they're whispering?, whispering, whispering), ooh, ooh

You leave me to cry again

Well you tried
Baby, you looked for a way, oh
You don't want to change, but
You still change the same, oh

(Reputation)
You try and you try again
(Isn't worth the patience)
You leave me to cry again
(Who cares what they're thinking?) oh, oh
(Who cares what they're whispering, whispering?)
They're whispering

(Reputation)
You try and you try again
(Isn't worth the patience)
You leave me to cry again
(Who cares what they're thinking?) ooh, ooh
(Who cares what they're whispering, whispering?)
They're whispering

(Reputation)
You try and you try again
(Isn't worth the patience)
You leave me to cry again
(Who cares what they're thinking?) Baby
(Who cares what they're whispering?, whispering, whispering)

  22. L.... R....

Dusty gave us so many great songs over so many decades. Love many of her 70's songs. Unfortunately much of that material was ahead of it's time and not promoted. Loved the "'Cameo" Lp especially.

    L.... R....

Lori Romano I love see all her faces ❤️

  23. .... ....

почему она умерла ? жаль , очень жаль (((((((((((

  24. C.... P....

I like this song. But then again she could sing the telephone book and still be great U.S.A.

  25. C.... ....

For those who are talking about Dusty and Pet Shop Boys - yes, they did some great work. But this is from the album she made with Heaven 17 and they even appear in the video!

    C.... ....

@Catweevil Heaven 17 did the b side? Didn't know that.

  26. K.... K....

    Very melodic.

  27. I.... C....

...brilliant. Should have topped all charts everywhere.

  28. L.... ....

    THIS SUCKS

    L.... ....

Have you checked out the "i'll Never Stop Loving you video?  I think you'll like it!

    L.... ....

Thanks for the tip. It's divine. Had heard her sing the song prior but don't think I watched it before. She eases you into it, soars and belts it out at the end. Perfect vocal. There are probably enough standards from BBC to make a Standards LP. Have you heard "Since I Fell" 1966? Think my favorite version, only audio but the notes she hits in that one, awesome. Recently saw another video "Dusty Springfield-Legend" a long play of the last song she recorded, "Someone to Watch over me" very emotional to hear, just her and piano. She was very ill of course at that time.

    L.... ....

I did hear the Since I fell some time ago, but unfortunately, most of my musical treasures are now memories.  About 20 years ago, I had a very bad case of flu with a very high temperature-and since that time I have been slowly losing my hearing, it has now reached the point that I -even with hearing aids- have very little of the sense left.   I often wonder about songs that Dusty never sang that I would have liked to hear her tackle.  For some reason the song The Weight by The Band, has always struck me as one such number, in my head I can hear her soulfully singing :I pulled into Nazareth, I was feelin' about half past dead
I just need some place where I can lay my head
"Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"
He just grinned and shook my hand and, "No", was all he said

    L.... ....

So sorry to hear about the hearing loss. My dad wore an expensive hearing aide that didn't do much for him. I bought an inexpensive one off of Amazon and he found that one helped him a lot more. You may want to try another one out. Oh yes, I can hear Dusty singing "The Weight" big time. You know, some of the songs she recorded on LP's in the 70's to 90's would not have been my choice for her. So many better songs she could have sung. But I think mostly she wanted to stay in the charts and be thought of as "Today." But thankfully, she did lots of live performances of so many great songs. And there are also a good many standards on her 60's recordings.

    L.... ....

    So do you you cretin.

  29. b.... ....

    Brian Spence Song ;)

  30. K.... A....

its a great pity she did nt do more with Alison moy. I did hope she would at the time. the two of them sounded great together.

  31. K.... A....

iv been looking for this video. got it on vhs. recorded it in the 80s. one of the best she ever did I think anyway. just brilliant.

  32. A.... ....

This is one of my absolute favorite Dusty songs!

  33. m.... ....

Not the Pet Shop Boys, they didn't produce this track

  34. R.... I....

Thanx for putting this up- I've never seen the video before- vocal suprema!

  35. d.... ....

Jesus what a woman...what a voice....you're right, no mathc for this lady.....she was truly "One of a Kind"

  36. s.... ....

The two guys in suits? You mean the Pet Shop Boys? lol

  37. s.... ....

The two guys in suits look like agents from the movie The Matrix. Awesome song though.

  38. g.... ....

she is one of my favourite artists a true lady she passed away to early but like they say god only takes the best and with dusty he got that god bless you dusty your music will always live on

  39. b.... ....

Nice to see some legacy for the highly underated Brian Spence with this cover of his song getting good airplay in some parts of the world.

  40. J.... P....

    @djaor AH POIS É!!!!

  41. D.... G....

I never knew about these later performances....they are as great as the 60's!! I am very inspred by Dusty!! I wish she was still alive to sing more songs!!

  42. P.... D....

there will never be another like her

  43. p.... ....

I hope that when she was recording songs like these, circa late 80's/early 90's, she felt some of the love we all have for her, especially when she was coming back into the public eye after such a long absence. Damn shame we had to lose her when she had come so far and had begun to conquer many of the the issues that had blighted her life for so long. I just hope she knew that so many people weren't just blown away by her remarkable talent but loved the caring, funny human being she was.

    p.... ....

What a sweet honest thing to say.

  44. d.... ....

    Brian Spence Song !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. f.... h....

    Love it Thanks :-)

  46. o.... ....

A one of a kind voice and look - there was no one like Dusty Springfield and there will never be. This is a great recording and it looks like she enjoyed it.

  47. a.... ....

The Best Female Singer We Ever Had, Pity She Is More Apreciated In Death Than She Was In Life. God Bless You Dusty xxx

  48. c.... ....

Her last was A Very Fine Love.

  49. N.... J....

Enron; World Com; AIG could learn a lesson from this REPUTATION! The board in the early 2000s fired 53% of the CEOs they couldn't see all of the crises but it appears those who were concern and kept quite were the ones who fook millons of retirees to the poor house.

  50. m.... ....

One talented lady! Superb song - reputation.....

  51. F.... M....

hi feel the same ! she was truly a legend my favourite of all miss her so much but her great voice lives on.....(shes here)......

  52. R.... ....

Looks like Chris Lowe at the end, don't you think?

  53. B.... ....

This wasn't a Pet Shop Boys collaboration. 'In Private' was the last thing she did with the Pet Shop Boys.

  54. C.... T....

A Goddess for all time, she gave us so much of herself, and kept her pain to herself. Amazing gift to us all, her short life is never forgotten.

  55. m.... ....

Pet Shop Boys didn't write or produce this song

  56. b.... ....

Hot rocker from Dusty is a masterpiece...why was the American public cheated out of this classic...a Euro hit that would have been huge in US with any exposure at all and for shame to the ignorant radio programmers who were sleeping on the job...Bravo DUSTY and we miss you!

  57. M.... J....

Loved that goose at the end!

  58. H.... N....

    Oh!!!!
I have waited so long to find this.
I love Dusty and this is her ultimate statement!!!!

  66. F.... C....

In the wonderful year 1987, Dusty Springfield, with the help of the Pet Shop Boys, staged one of the most welcome comebacks in pop history. "What Have I Done To Deserve This", "In Private", "Nothing Can Be Proved", "Reputation". Just listen to her lovely voice. The slightest inflection in her voice is captivating. A fabulous talent.

  67. H.... F....

    Thanks for answering my Question.

  68. H.... F....

Sorry for asking this, but is she still alive?
Not quite sure at the moment.

  69. L.... ....

    Just Brilliant...thanks for posting!
Is it me...or does the music of 'today' (Christ...listen to me...I'm only 42)lack passion????

  70. M.... B....

I used to have the 12" import for this. It should have been released the US.

  71. F.... C....

Dusty's 1980s comeback was certainly cause for celebration. Thanks to the Pet Shop Boys, Dusty got back in the charts where she belonged.

    J.... ....

JBTevere ‘This was Heaven 17 not The Pet Shop Boys. They’re appear in the video along with two characters from The Matrix.
